You can play as Owen Hart in In Your House, which is the successor to the Arcade Game. And you can play as Goldust and Vader (RIP)

i've always been fond of the smackdown/smackdown vs raw series of games and i genuinely wish WWE would go back to that kind of game instead of the sports sim style of the 2K games.

slightly off topic i think AEW is kinda dogshit but is the game actually good at least? i heard it's supposed to be more like the PS2 games and i figured i'd get a more honest answer here than on /pw/.

I prefer NJPW and ROH nowadays but AEW is fine too, though some angles feel too long and stale sometimes. I absolutely cannot watch WWE though. It's so fucking shit. I tried to get back to it during Mania hype season but I simply couldn't. Bloodline and Reigns are annoying. Zayn and Owens are so forcingly "relatable guys" with their fake anxiousness and stuttering promos pushed down my throat. Everyone else just sucks.

The AEW game definitely plays like the PS2/GC games, in that sense it's decent, but it's incredibly barebones. The story and CAW modes barely qualify as existing and there's next to nothing fun to do besides have clusterfuck matches with a buddy or three. They could definitely salvage it with a good amount of updates but the jury's out on that one right now.

Nah, I agree. I always thought WM2K was the pinnacle and felt No Mercy was kind of a downgrade when I played it with some friends for the first time. It’s not bad, just not as good as WM2K. They pretty much nailed the gameplay and mechanics already, and no mercy felt like the very beginning of starting to eff with the formula that made those games legendary in the first place. No Mercy is still worlds better than what they did with Day of Reckoning on GameCube.

Stopped watching wwe in 2007 right before they killed everything fun about those shows by going PG. From everything I’ve read, there was brief blip in late 2011-2013 where it was decent again, then has been shit ever since then. Everything I’ve seen of Roman reigns says snore fest to me…

that whole storyline is why i just stopped caring about WWE. the whole bloodline/tribal chief stuff is so fucking boring and i'm sick of every smark pretending it's not.

my problem with AEW (and more or less the indie style of wrestling) is that none of them understand the concept of "less is more" which ultimately ruins alot of the cool stuff i used to like about pro wrestling.

it also doesn't help that the only guys i care about are MJF & darby who sorta feel sidelined by the guys i don't like/care about and MJF is the champion for god's sake.

Revenge is a great game, no joke. You get the wcw angle from that, the wwf angle from wm2k. It’s perfect for that brief period where the games had gotten really good but the companies hadn’t yet merged.

I was a huge WCW mark so Revenge for me is still the GOAT wrasslin game, it was still 2 or 3 years from the Vince buyout and 98 was WCW's last good year. As is usually pointed out, the roster in Revenge is one of the best you'll find anywhere, just lacking Flair as he had been fired (or suspended) by Bischoff when the game was in development.

was there ever a rom hack for the N64 aki wrestling games (virtural pro wrestling 1 & 2, WCW world tour/revenge and WM2000 & no mercy) that combined them all into one game. i always wanted to give them a go even though they're effectively just 2 games with 3 different reskins.

Sounds like you want to combine both WrestleMania: The Arcade Game with WWF: In Your House. The latter had British Bulldog and Owen Hart, but Mr.Perfect was not playable as a commentator. My favorites are probably the later N64 ones.
