Real Bout 1 is a cooler game than Real Bout Special
>3 lanes
>ring outs
>darker visuals
>classic early 90s pixel art as opposed to cartoonish SF Alpha style rip off
>has actual story and the end of Geeze Howard saga

Real Bout being a separate series is so weird. My only guess why they did it is because SNK wanted to do what Capcom did with Street Fighter Alpha and have its own title change but didn't bother with the rest of the reasoning that made Alpha make sense.
