New fag to SNES emulation

What is the most accurate emulator that even a simpleton retard like me can configure for a 8BitDo SNES controller?

>> No.10066304

https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Super_Nintendo_emulators#Emulators

Assuming you're using a Windows PC, just use bsnes.
If that happens to run too slow, use Snes9x instead.

ares is a package that includes bsnes and some other emulators.

Just Snes9x

First of all you are trying way too hard to sound like a local, just write normally.

Second, for accuracy go with bsnes. Note though that it defaults to performance over accuracy, which more or less puts it on par with snes9x, you have to change the settings to put it in a super-accurate mode.

It's configuration can be a little daunting though if you really get into it, but the majority of settings you don't need to touch.

Snes9x is a lot simpler, but it has no accuracy mode.

There's two things that will happen
Either the emulator is able to automatically detect whatever mode the controllers are running on, and at worse, you'll just have to shuffle buttons
Or the emulator doesn't directly supports controllers, or doesn't support whatever mode this runs on. You can check what's the keyboard buttons configurations in the emulator and use joy2key to map out keyboard keys to your controller and then it will function as if the emulator supported the controller

Higan if you can run it, and it is extremely dependent on what a single core operates on.
The real answer is whatever you want properly set. Doesn't actually matter with 99% of the games. Higan is if you want cycle accuracy but it's an old emulator, and it was made back when you had one core dressed to the nines.

RA just auto sets it up for you when you plug your controller in. You don't have to configure anything unless youre deliberately trying to move away from 1 to 1 mapping with the SNES inputs.
Actually I don't think I've ever had to open RAs controller configuration menu at all, even my raphnet n64 controller just werked.

Their Retro Receiver which you can connect on PC, which works with most modern controllers and their controllers, actually works real nicely on Linux. I think you only need to put a config file so it stops controlling the mouse and it's good to go, all Steam games recognize it

>> No.10067924

Byuu, the creator of babes, was an autist who could never leave well enough alone and was constantly reinventing the wheel. Once bsnes was basically finished, he decided to fuck with the way it loads games and so instead of just loading your sfc ROM files like any sane emulator, he instead made it so you had to import your games into "game folders" with a different structure, and he created Higan entirely based around that concept, along with creating several other cores for Nintendo systems, thus abandoning the original bsnes as a standalone emulator. Problem is, the whole game folders concept proved highly unpopular and fucking no one was using Higan as a result, on top of the other cores being generally subpar because byuu's autism only really extended to the SNES. And so bsnes was brought back, getting rid of game folders in the process or at least making them optional, as well as easing up a bit on the accuracy meme and allowing some enhancements and speed focused options back in. And then to complicate things further, he decided to have another go at the multi emulator thing with ares, only without the game folders and getting more people on board and allowing for more cores outside of Nintendo systems. So now we have three incarnations of bsnes as a result, where while they all work, you're best using either standalone bsnes or ares, with Higan being pretty much abandoned.

>> No.10068074

Most accurate is bsnes, though the overall best mixture of accuracy and performance is SNES9x.

Run ahead is not an end-all nor some perfect solution, and it the higher you set it to try to match the original hardware latency not only does it require much more resources to run but it can also cause stuttering.

>>10067924
The last official updates for both higan and bsnes were byuu's last update in 2020, but both recently got updated again now that the projects have been taken over by someone else. And yes, projects getting "abandoned" tends to happen when the person working on said projects is dead.

Does this even matter when processors all have 8 cores and 12 threads and boost to 5ghz these days? It's snes ffs you can emulate switch and upscale it to 4k with a $600 pc and get 30fps locked. A raspberry pi could run an snes emulator

Additional cores are useless if the software is not designed to use more than one core, and many emulators for older systems are not.

Nice, I've got the one on the left with the sticks.
It's cool that it's still on model to the snes design but I feel like the sticks are so cramped in that they're slightly in the way of the face buttons.
Oftentimes I'll just use a pokken controller for snes instead so there aren't any sticks in the way.
