HEH, NOTHIN' PERSONAL, KID!

thankfully MUH QOL gets rid of this ANTIQUATED BAD DESIGN mechanic

I'm not even going to shit on you for that. The endlessly spawning enemies that steal a shitload of exp on contact are a bafflingly bad design choice.

No monster drains experience in the original version iirc. Granted, that version features its own set of uniquely obtuse mechanics.

While technically this, it's important to realize that OP is well aware he's acting like a retarded zoomie on purpose for the guaranteed (You)s it generates. In the future, we're all better off not responding to this garbage at all.

thats not even the worst part

That's a lie, it doesn't happen.

Exp from defeated enemies DO overflow to the next level.

And then the gems picked up at the end of a dungeon bring you to the next level for free, it's not a set amount it just brings you to the next level. Which is what you're confused about because you're stupid.

The gem doesn't give you a set number of EXP, it just increases your level. When you DO get set numbers of EXP they overflow properly.

>> No.10066463

This enemy is usually easy to avoid, unless you are trying to fight something else on top of it. The problem, is that this isn't the only enemy in the game to steal experience. For example, the commonly encountered spear moblins also take experience. None of these enemies drop even a single experience point.

My heart always dropped whenever I came across Black Death in Gauntlet.
I tended to panic and spam the magic button whenever they popped out of a chest, desperate to save my levels.

Git gud. If you know they are that dangerous you should be more on your toes. Besides it only removes xp in your current level, nothing takes away that which is the most important thing.

It's a pattern, and it also has a predictable spawn time. Are you a goldfish, nigga.
I know goldfish actually have good memory but come on, its a metaphor.

Still way more reasonable than the level-draining monsters found in Wizardry and other old dungeon crawlers. I know they got the idea from D&D, but Gary Gygax was a prick, too.

Standard dungeon crawling design. Been in video games since the first electronic rpg and paper rpg before than.

Dnd was supposed to simulate epic adventure mythology were there is danger and peril. You are not the type of person that would go on those adventures. You'd stay on your safe farm whining about level draining while the heros are off losing eyeballs while their companions drown.

>> No.10070812

It only steals a small number of points, and it's easy to dodge. You just pause for a moment to let it go by you. If you get hit so frequently by these things that you're actually losing significant amounts of experience, then you're also going to be dying a lot from the damage, and that's a much bigger problem.

>> No.10070815

>>10069203

There is not a single experience-stealing monster in Zelda II that's actually dangerous BECAUSE it steals experience. If it's dangerous, it's dangerous because it steals life, by hitting you.
