Barebones. A 6th gen PS2 launch title on a 4gb DVD that you can beat it in like an hour.
The announcer is complete fucking hot garbage.
The music is forgettable besides the vehicle unlock theme.
And it, quite literally, lacked the style and spectacle that R4 (and every RR title prior to it) graced us with. There's simply no contest.

Didn't live up to Type 4's immense style and atmosphere at all really. Felt very generic compared.

I like the flag girl in 4 more, but , for me atleadt, gran turismo changed the game. I had kart racers or whatever for arcade fun racing and gt for the satisfaction of actually racing

Ironically Gran Turismo 4 turned the series into a catch the rabbit race format aka Ridge Racer. Rolling starts really did kill GT for me.

It emulates nicely. Graphics and minor sound glutches are the only problem.
And even then you can get rid of most of the graphics troubles if you switch to software mode.

The main issue I remember it having was the car textures were garbled on hardware mode like your pic. Though some update of the nightly branch last year fixed that, so it basically runs perfectly now.

Ridge Racer 2 PSP is pretty much a giant celebration of all the previous games with a vast majority of every game before this one's tracks and music being playable/listenable. It's good shit, and completely invalidates RR1 PSP's existence because it's basically a huge expansion pack.

They are good games, IMO, and their main issue is in the fact that they are tremendously easier than any other Ridge Racer.
I've only had real challenge when I've hacked my Class 4 Bayonet into Class 6 races.

4 was always my favorite, still got my copy from way back in the day. The lighting is excellent and still looks good to me today, the driving feels tight and the drifting feels fun. Though it is a pretty damn easy game and a short game. I pop it in when I want some eye candy and to be the drift king for a few races. Also the yellow theme it has going across the box, disk, and menus is a nice touch. And that intro though, dude's sliding like a motherfucker and hitting that redline and smokes the competition so hard he still has time to stop and pick up that hoe that somehow is walking on a closed racetrack. I would grind this game up and snort it if I could anon.
