I bought an NES Advantage a few days ago. It works perfectly, and I got a couple games for it. I fucking love it and defend it with all my might. I dare every single one of you to respect me for my decisions. I will defy every single negative thing you say about the Advantage. I'm happy with what I bought.

I respect it.
I have done similar things buying strictly inferior game controllers just to be able to experience the games the way they were played back in the day.
I bought some Omron XW6Z-0011 buttons a few months back to do this.

For those not familiar: these are the original Neo Geo buttons used in the early MVS cabinets before SNK switched to using PS-14-G buttons. They look similar from the top, but are completely different in design from below. The Omron buttons have a longer stroke, and feel more loose in their socket. They also feel more springy.
Overall: a more primitive feeling product and probably strictly inferior for playing fighting games with.

But I don't regret the purchase at all. And I didn't pay very much for them either because it seems like Neo collectors hardly even care or know about them.

Also bought some vintage LS-32 joysticks and restored the oldest one of the bunch that had notably worse build quality than later versions to pair it with my buttons.

I refreshed my memory on it some more and going by part codes they still called for Omron buttons as late as the Super Neo 29 Type II, which would be around 1995.

Today almost all of the cabinets have had their buttons replaced with Seimitsu PS-14-G or Sanwa OBSF-30.

Tangential topic: I have just one pic of this Capcom cabinet which is using a type of blue Omron button I've never seen anywhere else. Quite mysterious..

it’s pretty fun. makes every game feel a bit more arcade-y. which is great because most nes games are pretty arcade-y. I really like how sturdy it feels. it’s mostly just the metal bottom plate though.

its autistic but i did the same thing
and i KNEW it was ass when i purchased it
something about having the same stick from when i was a kid
it just felt right

for easymode games like kirby or 1942 its fine
for "NES hard huehuehue" titles i prefer to have a refurbished stock controller
with GOOD membranes
sourcing them is hit\miss

the advantage is sweet for the turbo function
its too bad they didnt blip some nice user-serviceable microswitches but
cant have everything i guess

ascii makes a "super advantage" for the snes
same deal slightly shittier buttons that can catch the sides

their ps1 entry is actually clicky and nice though
whats retarded is the ps1 one is the cheapest
which means ebay tards are just buying for the same reason i did

because of the memories and it looking cool as fuck

I have a broken joycard sss coming for my famicom. I imagine the solder joints have broken since it's two boards soldered together into an ice cream sandwich, with no spacers. I like how the famicom version just plugs into the front port with no audio cord flailing around

I bet that ASCII stick is based on the Sigma SJ-9000TB.

Sigma was an early manufacturer of very fine arcade sticks in Japan.

And I also bet the NES advantage was made by ASCII for Nintendo and is based on the same design seen in MSX and PC Engine arcade sticks of the time.

Nope.
There's no real advantage to using a joystick over a d-pad in any NES game. But if you are used to using a joystick then you may feel more at home with it.

However, it is still fun just play around with.

I did some more research on this and I think it's the other way around.

An ASCII stick can be seen in Gamest Issue 02 in July 1986, but advertisements for Sigma joysticks don't appear until Gamest Issue 16 in January 1988.
