Played this through Nintendo Online crap. I actually found it pretty interesting once the controls made more sense.

However, how the hell do I get more money? I think I am softlocked because I ran out of cash but guides aren't obvious.

Pretty sure the giant anubis looking MF in the background tells you this is a little abstract

Nightshade is to superheroes what Guybrush Threepwood is to pirates

Awesome game. Great atmospheric and moody audiovisuals. Probably the funniest script on the NES as well. Love the death traps and the reputation system. The only real downfall is that the fighting sucks.

Mouse mod or mouse enabled interpreter a la SCUMMVM when?

I enjoyed Nightshade. It made an impression on me as a kid because it was the only NES game I played that had decent writing, and the "lives" system is pretty clever.

There is a finite amount of money, so I'm pretty sure you can screw yourself over in that regard. You get a bunch of cash for rescuing one particular guy who is getting mugged, but if you've burnt through that and still have things you need to spend money on then you're in trouble.

The deathtraps are great. I know modern mainstream games will never do anything like that again. Which I kind of understand but I think the added challenge and limited restarts add to the stakes. If only the ninja ladies weren't a pain to fight. Then it'd feel fair.

You're calling that out, but not that he's facing away from the Amoonbis in the background, but it's still reflected in his glasses?
Shit needs raytracing.

Good game
could have been GREAT though.
should have gotten a sequel

I always imagined a sequel as a kind of jank early playstation game with pre-rendered backdrops and primitive 3D models.

Plot twist: That's actually a giant mirror in the background, and it and his glasses are reflecting the real Anubis who is offscreen, stage left.
