The majority of problems with cartridge-based consoles can be remedied by cleaning the cartridge slot and the contacts of your games even if they are not visibly dirty. Consult the Game and Console Cleaning guide here:

If you have any questions about a non-/vr/ console, try posting on the forum ( http://forums.gametechwiki.com/ ) and letting us know here that you did.

I need to replace the resistor on a Dreamcast controller board, but the resistor is a special "fuse" resistor with a low (<1 ohm) resistance. Is there any reason I couldn't just use a standard type of resistor?

I have two N64 games that won't save anymore; Banjo Kazooie and Jet Force Gemini, I know those don't have a battery so I don't know why they don't save. Any ideas of the causes and how to fix it?

Either EEPROMs (that 8 pin chip) are burned out, the one single data pin for it doesn't make good contact or the EEPROM has dry solder joints.
>and how to fix it?
Replace it with one of the same size (there are only 2 different ones, with the larger one being rarer than the smaller).
And no, you can't just take any EEPROM.
The ones for N64 are special: their protocol is quite the same as for the controller, which technically makes that data pin in the cartridge slot the "5th controller port".
The only replacement part could be made from an microcontroller which is fast enough (to support the protocol) and has an internal sufficient sized EEPROM.

I have a job repairing computers for a school and they give us a 2 page checklist to go through when working on any computer to make sure they're perfect, I was thinking about doing something like this to make a sheet when ever I get a new console and for general maintenance every other month or so.

I'm making up a draft right now, what should I make sure to include on it?
