My copy is exactly 12 hours 1 second. Looking at it now, I assumed it was all just one special. And yea,

>I'll do it in two parts with the same New Year's title but distinct subtitles like New Year's Special and then Kirby Superstar Yoiko challenge or whatever. But will list the New Year's Special as Pt 1 of 2 and the challenge as Pt 2 of 2

that sounds good

And yet the latest raw episodes are still said to be on dailymotion.

In FTP news, we've hit the first snag. The server crapped out during the upload of the Lemmings bonus disc and now .r08 and .r09 are corrupt and .r10 is 0 bytes but acting as a placeholder and preventing proper upload. I'm going to have to wait, upload the rest of the RARs intact to the folder, and then upload another RARFiX directory with the completed RARs. Once the server gets its act together.

My fiancee and I were watching the episode and I paid very close attention to the subs to take notes for suggestions.

Overall I have to say that basically all of the choices that were deliberated over paid off. Casualising the speech, overlaying on the sidebar graphics, everything worked well.

The only thing negative that was pointed out, and that I have to agree with, is the font is a little small and a little low and at least when you're watching it on a TV, you have to look down just far enough that you miss the action in the middle of the screen.

In the OP? Those are the latest AIRED episodes in Japan, not the latest ACQUIRED episodes. The OP is stripped down from its former overloaded state and geared to quick fixes on stream sites. The FTP and all other links are in the pastebins.

So the link in the OP is to the rerun HD rips running on Fuji's other channels? People said that high def Shiren the Wanderer etc. weren't high priority. To each his own, if raws are streaming then raws are streaming. I prefer them in 60 fps 720p as is the new standard for GCCX releases in Japan.

Could someone upload the contents of this RAR to the FTP in the Japanese Raw LQ Rares folder? I'd like to see if this FTP problem is on my end or is the server's fault. My connection wizard in Filezilla suggests I may have problems suddenly with FTP connectivity as a whole...and now my cable is out. OK I've got problems I think. The story was changed in the US. So I'm not really sure what's best here. But he was definitely Ryu, I got it for Christmas along with Metroid. Read the manuals first. I always felt it was a sloppy localization. Your chance to set things right?

3. HOW TO PLAY

The story of Karnov begins in the peaceful village of Creamina, where the Treasure of Babylon has been kept for centuries, hidden away from the outside world. The Treasure has been sought by Ryu, a huge and evil dragon, for thousands of years. But now, Ryu has discovered the secret of Creamina and descended upon the little village, accompanied by all of his demonic cohorts. Ryu has made off with the Treasure, leaving his monstrous minions behind to terrorize the countryside. The helpless townsfolk have only one hope: Jinborov Karnovski, otherwise known as Karnov, a one-time circus strongman with a unique talent for shooting fireballs. Only Karnov can find a way through the monster-infested countryside, to seek out the evil Ryu and regain the Lost Treasure of Babylon for his people!

Picking up Super Fireballs also increases Karnov's firepower. Collecting two Super Fireballs will enable him to shoot double fireballs, and collecting three will enable him to shoot triple fireballs.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ENEMIES

Lion Keeper

Appears with a lion who shoots out from its mouth. If you kill the lion, the Keeper will attack you by throwing knives.

Chiken Bone
Lies in wait for Karnov at the top of a tree, then swoops down upon him suddenly.

Snake Woman
This strange creature will attack with increasing strength when Karnov fights back.

Rock Man
Karnov will need to power-up with Options to defeat this enemy, which threatens him with large boulders.

Gidora
Karnov will need a Shield to defend himself against this two-handed monster, which shoots out from both of its mouths.

OPTIONS

There are ten Options available throughout all the levels. Collect them to use during key moments of the game when needed. Certain Options can be collected and inventoried. In addition, some Options can be used only at certain times during the game. An Option will flash when it can be used.

Boots
Doubles Karnov's jumping power. This Option loses its effectiveness over a period of time, but it can be stocked.

Bombs
Not just for defeating enemies, but also for destroying certain obstacles and walls. It can be stored.

Ladder
Use it to reach an Option positioned in a high place, or avoid an enemy's attack.

Bommerang
Gives you extra attacking power. You can use it again if you catch it when it returns. It can be stocked.

9
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clapper
This will destroy every enemy on the screen at one time (except for the Boss Enemy in each Stage). It can be stocked.

Glasses
Allows you to see and retrieve hidden Options.

Swimming Mask
This will allow you to go faster underwater in Stage 5, a swimming scene.

Wings
Use them when you fall from a high place. You will need them continuously in Stage 8, a flying scene. They can be stocked.

Shield
Protects Karnov from an enemy's attack up to five times.

K Mark
You will receive one extra life when you collect fifty of these.

DATA EAST BRINGS YOU ARCADE REALISM AT HOME!
KARNOV, the fire-breathing russian, is seeking the Lost Treasure of Babylon. He runs, swims, climbs and flies through nine levels of game play. Countless bizarre enemies of various sizes and strenghts are out to pervent KARNOV from finding the treasure!

The Data East releases were all about treasure hunting, ostensibly. You see Karnov doing a Scrooge McDuck in a big pile of gold at the end. Same with the US NES release, save the lost treasure of Babylon.

But the Namco Famicom port tried to add something unique. It had multiple endings and a story framework to back them up.

Yeah the concept of Options is huge, seeing it brings it all back. It's the same game, so gameplay things like double fireballs, Super Fireballs in general, triple fireballs, Options are the preferred terms. But the story just isn't the same in the Japanese release.

Also in >>1011649 that should read that Karnov does a Scrooge in the arcade version only. The NES version has no in-game story at all.

I literally filled up the entire FTP server with GCCX raws. The last time this happened people had to make a thread and get the admin to free up space.

So I can start to correct the incomplete RARs, but as soon as they hit the size they were before the process is reset by peer. The error message and behavior of the server matches what happened before when it was full.

This is a definite setback. Everyone who uses the FTP feels different things are important. We will have to hope that the FTP gods decide GCCX is worthy. The general philosophy seems to be that old medium-demand material should be deleted, and that the goal is dissemination of quality material for prolonged periods.

Someone might need to make a /g/ thread, I don't know what to say to them without seeming like the guy who smelt the fart and therefore dealt it.

What I'd prefer is to get more space up on the FTP. This should be a permanent host of sorts. File sharing sites can't be accessed depending on your ISP and the country you're in, and 4shared requires registration to download. Sometimes those places disappear overnight.

Torrents have issues as well...some can't access them and they have to be successfully seeded and stay seeded in order to have any sort of permanence. Uploading with torrents is a much slower process and its speed is limited by the download speed of others and the speed with which they notice the torrent. Plus some rabid sperg lord will take note when I alert the thread of a new torrent, record my IP, and call up Kan and get Fuji to axe kick me.

The FTP is run by one guy who wanted a little service for /g/, it wasn't meant for us to store gigs upon gigs of GCCX raws.

It's seriously just as simple as uploading three places; Nyaa for torrents, Mega(or someplace else) for DDL, and Dailymotion for streaming. It's arbitrary to only give people one option.

So it's only for storing gigs upon gigs of GCCX translated hardsubbed videos? That's a confusing policy, you'd think people who enjoyed downloading such things would want to contribute to getting high quality videos hardsubbed. This would lead to them having more of the hardsubbed translations that they seem to enjoy downloading (as evidenced by the gigs upon gigs of GCCX videos they have on there).

I don't know what Mega is, but if you mean megaupload I cannot access that service ever since it was shut down. Either that or it's blocked in the US, or on my ISP.

Check the dates on those things, that's just the very tip top of the directory. GCCX didn't kill the FTP server. FTP servers are meant to attract new content, not just disseminate it.

/g/ knows technology. /g/ understands the nature of rare downloads. /g/ has argued in threads I've seen about the FTP, accessible on Google still, that what the FTP server is not for is things that are commonly available like Simpsons Season 21 full DVDs. No one on /g/ is saying please don't use the server we set up to attract the propagation of rare files we're interested in. Arino's the star of the show and (considering his age/fame) he's somewhat above the others on the show, so he can speak casually and with his accent.

Kan's the narrator, so he has to speak politely for the most part, unless it's necessary for a joke (his imitation of a baseball announcer in the (untranslated) Koshien episode is a good example, cracks me up.)

The staff aren't used to being on a TV show and usually say their lines somewhat stiffly, while being quite polite to Arino. In the Ikki episode, when Sasano asks to play a life, more directly he's saying "Would you allow me the permission to play one life? "

tl;dr: I do my best to translate the tone/politeness each person puts on their line, unless it interferes with nice looking subs.

Basically so that there's less likely to be a situation where the only remaining untranslated episodes are 'bad' ones, and in the case of the first two, so that it's possible to say "All of the first 100 episodes have been translated by at least one group".

Another reason the releases are so eclectic is the fact we have three 'active' fansubbing groups, all working in different ways:

~ SA's subbing efforts are focused on the 'earliest' untranslated episodes available, with TV specials and DVD exclusives thrown in from time to time. They only get behind a brand-new episode if the game in question is something EVERYONE wants to see ASAP.

~ LC focused on Nintendo Channel episodes at first, then tried to change to "newer episodes that interest me", but fell into a long slump after a single TV episode release.

~ /vr/'s efforts started when they subbed a short press conference, and with each successive release the 'scale' of this collaborative project has gone up, starting with short special episodes, going on to a mid-length DVD episode, and soon progressing to standard TV episodes.

Section 2 will have links to direct downloads of episodes that can't make it to the FTP yet. When space is cleared on the FTP, those releases will join the list in section 1.

I'll make a legitimate point that ego is both the chief driving force and major destructive element in translation efforts.

LC was one man, and he released full episodes that were considered by some to be more well done than SA's. This caused unbelievable blowback against him from various sources, some of which weren't really those they pretended to be.

We've seen such techniques reach even these threads, whenever "LC drama" will come up...suddenly people who care a little too much will show up and attempt to slant opinion one way or the other. LC is someone who has most likely gotten the raw end of more than his fair share of deals, screwed over and feeling betrayed more than others.

It's a consequence of his unusual level of skill and ability. I recognize such when I see it. LC has my sword whenever he needs it, at the asking...but he already approached this team and was also turned away. Why?

Other way around. LC (who's pretty well known in the tokusatsu fansubbing community for his gigantic ego and being a really hard person to work with) wanted to join the SA group, got turned down because the episode he translated as a test had too many mistakes, and subsequently threw a fit and started passive-aggressive shit flinging.

Also, for the episodes both groups did, he learned they were working on the episode while he was also working on it (unannounced), and rushed his translation to "beat them to the punch". The optimist in me says "Both these episodes fell into the HOLY SHIT THE ENGLISH-SPEAKING FANS WILL WANT THIS TRANSLATED ASAP category, so both groups lept on it".

This logic works in Earthbound's case; LC released their version only half a day ahead of SA, and mere days after the episode itself aired.

On the other hand, for the Yoshi's Island 2-parter, both groups announced their intention to sub it as soon as the first part had aired on TV. LC had Part One in the wild a full week ahead of SA, posting Part 2 shortly after they'd posted their Part One. This was at the height of the drama between the two groups, so it's likely that both of 'em raced to release something to spite the other.

After the Earthbound episode was released, there was finally a formal apology from both parties about the squabble, and it's officially "old news". Even so, drama seems to surround LC like moths to a flame, so although neither group will 'try' to step on the other's toes, nobody wants to work directly with him, as >>1013247 shows.

Because I'm updating it fine, >>1013336 I don't plan on ditching this IP for a while. If I were to ditch this IP, and I had more updates to make, clearly I'd update them in the thread as well and make a new pastebin then. If your concern is that I won't be around to make a new pastebin, then isn't it more concerning to consider that I wouldn't be around to upload more raws at all? When Kan narrates and they cut to explanation screens, you might try looking up words on ALC

It's a good dictionary I use myself quite often.

Arino's Osakan accent is difficult to understand at times, especially since most texts teach the Tokyo/standard Japanese. Make friends with Japanese people from Osaka, or start watching a lot of Japanese comedy if you want to learn it.

It's not HD quality dude, the tag is correct. Check any TV show up for download right now, even the low quality ones will be tagged HDTV because that's the SOURCE of the transmission, not the quality. The quality goes before that tag, where you see 720p in some releases. You don't see a 720p tag in that release because it's sourced from HDTV and encoded with the XviD codec. This lets you know that it's an .avi file with resolution 480p or below.

I don't know how Fuji shows things, but I know there are satellites involved sometimes. It's possible that it's a DSrip but it's most likely not sourced from PDTV since it's widescreen. Short dashes used to distinguish overlapping lines should have a space between the dash and the first word. "Gimme" is also misspelled.
- Lemme see! Gimme your phone already!
- You're touching a different place!

>> No.1014802

The dash issue was mentioned during editing. Kakaricho pointed out that they were written that way in the script. Abunai said that he would enter them that way in the subs. I believe that all of them are incorrectly spaced in the final product.

Let me add one more vote for a Google Docs Spreadsheet next time. The dashes could be included in the script with proper spacing for overlapping lines and omitted for lines where they're not needed. This would remove a lot of uncertainty.

DVD-BOX3 Volume 6 iso is priority for TwinBee

DVD-BOX5 Volume 10 iso is for Druaga

DVD-BOX6 Volume 12 iso is for Yie Ar Kung Fu

You mean this? That's not her name, it roughly translates to
"This is the Offensive technique "Body Theft Strike" from the Hermit Crab style of the offensive beast school of martial arts"

It's from Gekiranger, a show based around fantastical styles of martial arts.

And yes, it's retarded as hell to just write down the Japanese words and call it a day. The entire point is to understand the words.

I've never seen the show, so I'm just going off wikipedia stuff here, but the plot essentially centers around a conflict between two martial arts schools built around the same concept - the just "Passion Beast School" and the villainous "Offensive Beast School". These schools then have a number of different styles each, so in this scene, said villain announces that she just used this specific technique from the Hermit Crab Style of the Offensive Beast School.

It's sensible enough if you understand the words, but TV Nihon don't want you to do that.

It is.

>Hey, did you notice a little something missing from the 102 consecutive episodes? Like, maybe an episode or three were missing just a little something? Well then shove this into your Game Center CX folder! While we previously translated the entire episode, Arino's Clock Tower challenge is now a part of the Retro Game Master DVD set, so we took the excluded segments, gave the subtitles a bit of a massage and a fixing-up, and now you can enjoy this new translation of Episode 53's non-challenge segments: now with translation hindsight!

bitjello79 just has an unathorized rip of the challenge from the RGM DVD.

>> No.1017190

So, with the SA team releasing the separate segments for the Clock Tower episode, I've been rewatching the DVD version of the challenge, and I've been noticing two things.

One: This episode really is Kan's crowning achievement as far as narration goes. Incredible how he originally just did it as a cost-saving measure, and yet delivers such great stuff.

Two: After they say "the entire staff will leave the room", there's still somebody there, because you can occasionally hear somebody laugh at Arino's jokes. Who is that? Some camera guys that still needed to operate the equipment? Or has the staff spent so much time in that room that their spirits have become fixed to it, and there's even laughter even if nobody's there? Arino says something about how the scariest part was spending time alone with Tanii, so I'm a bit confused.

The Truth of the Matter segment is what Kan was talking about when he showed GAYme Center to Tanii / Toujima and the audience during the 24 hour challenge. He said he wanted to make a segment out of showing the footage to Arino.

On the DVD, the third bonus feature is just this. Arino has a number of comments to make on this hilarious footage, while during the 24 hour challenge itself Toujima and Tanii just looked uncomfortable. It's about 25 minutes long.

The two other bonus segments are as cited in OP's pastebin. I've got the DVD and it's ready to go up, except that I need to wait for Perfect Dark to stop being so productive before I kill its upload. If you want to get a head start, .r00 through .r07 on the FTP are fully up and I'll mirror the whole thing on mega/pastebin soon.

There's a Season 1 package of them in mediocre quality on Nyaa, I believe.

Cool. Just wanted to know if they were available somewhere.

I don't know how it works but I'm hammering my account right now by uploading the Lemmings bonus full DVD. Maybe it's affecting things? The link leads to the right folder it seems.

Oh Christ. I just watched the "Catch Copy special" for the first time. This is a riot.

>By the way, Toujima made a sound of approval. Are dinosaurs your fetish too?
>Yes, they are indeed.

Gotcha. Hang on to them (obviously), and we'll see if anybody wants them in DDL form. I wouldn't consider them to be a top priority for the FTP right now.

Yeah, their season 1 subs seem to use these raw.

>>1018563
It's not a Hudson episode, it's all about the Momotaro Dentetsu franchise. Pretty fun, though.

These episodes are much tougher to sub than the standard ones, though, since they're straight interviews with people who often mumble a lot. I'd love to see them subbed, but most people seem more interested in the regular challenges.

Also, fucking localize Momotaro Dentetsu already. That Itadaki Street game they localized did okay, didn't it?

Well, they are all about a company's designers and involve one of their games as a challenge.

And isn't Momotaro Densetsu a Hudson game? So yeah.

>> No.1018632

Here's the Spelunker DVD special, if anybody wants it. I got disappointed because it wasn't a new take of the challenge, just a rerun from the Quest of Ki Live.

Momotaro DenTetsu. Momotaro DenSetsu is a different-ish franchise.

And yeah, it's a Hudson series, and it has a quick showcase of Hudson games, and Arino plays Star Force for the challenge, but the main episode itself is completely about Arino talking to Akira Sakuma about the MomoTetsu series. Other Hudson games, and Hudson in general, isn't really touched upon.

There's a couple other such episodes too. Episode 4 is all about the Sakura Wars series, and episode 6 is all about the Derby Stallion series.

Densetsu are the RPG games, Dentetsu the train board game ones. I do wish somebody would translate the latter, they look like a lot of fun.
