Why was arcades aloud? You have moms there drop off their kids for hours. Leaving them alone. Very few adults watching. In retrospect it is messed up as all hell how commonplace arcade culture was. I would never allow my kids to go.

One time when I was maybe 11 playing Star Wars Pod racer in the arcade, two hot teen girls asked me if I wanted to see their boobs, I said yes, and they showed me their boobs. No one would believe me when I told them that story
Arcades were awesome

I used to bully somebody from my school at the arcade with two of my friends. Our parents were all close friends but he was sort of an outcast who was forced to tag along. He'd play Daytona and we would grab on the wheel and ruin his game. It escalated after a while to the point where we'd do things like push him out of the chair of the racing games and he'd occasionally hit his head on something. It was messed up looking back and I regret acting like that. Years later he's in the C suite of a tech company despite being relatively young for the position. Hopefully he forgets what we did and has continued success.

He's successful in part because of the bullying. Michael Jordan? Bullied. Bill Gates? Bullied. Mike Tyson? Bullied.
He should be thanking you

He'll never forget, and you should feel like dogshit. You should actually reach out to him and try to reconcile if this isn't some faggot fanfic. Why did you even write all this, did you think it would make you sound cool? This is embarassing.

Why the fuck would anyone want to be contacted by some miserable little failed bully kid so he can feel better about being a rotten piece of shit?

You'll have to speak up. I can't hear you over the games.

Because it was both safer and boomers hadn't ruined a generation of kids by gaslighting them. There was a Tekken 3 cabinet at mine and I made a few friends showing other kids how to pull off combos. We had almost filled the scoreboard up with swears and the asshole running the change station unplugged it.

As a boomer, the fact that this is seen as too dangerous today fascinates me. Is the world a more dangerous place today, or is it just that the mentality has changed?

Survivorship bias. This guy thinks he's turning Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold into Michael Jordan and Bill Gates. Retard

First time I was in an arcade was 1983. Shaggy hair, long jeans, and a lot of cig smoke. The popular games were Ms Pac Man and Dragon's Lair.

Shame Namco bought out most large arcades in the 90's only to fill them with Namco machines.

It's shut-in Gen X / Millennial parents forcing their kids to be afraid of setting foot outside, since that's how they grew up after all. Arcades are popular with zoomers because they have never had that experience of just being in a regular place with strangers all trusting each other to not do stupid shit.

Hours is an exaggeration.
My local arcade was a country store with two machines next to the pool table in the back.
My family knew the owner personally and trusted them. They trusted the people who frequented the store because they were related to half of them.
There was a security camera monitoring the back at all times.
Even with all that I would get dropped off and picked back up an hour or two later. And I always had a sibling or friend with me.

a pair of games at the gas station general store isnt an arcade. your story/experience is irrelevant. we're talking about ACTUAL arcades.

Okay so the grand tales of playing SF2 at the 7-11 don't count as real arcades either then.

In reality more people played arcade games "on location" in stores that had a few machines set up than those who were lucky enough to live near a dedicated game center.

Bro, like 70% of people don't live near fully dedicated game centers. During peak arcade era, most kids just gathered at their local 7-Eleven corner store, or Laundromat that had several machines. You could go there and see groups of neighbor kids playing. Thats how rivalries and friendships were born. You only went to the game center when it was your birthday or some special occasion.
