Whats up /vr/?

Have any games coming in the mail? If so what games? And where do you purchase your games from? And what advice would you give to people regarding online game purchases?

Just got my not quite retro Dreamcast today!
Paid $27 for it with two controllers, 3 memory cards (one being 4 memory cards in one), a rumble pack, and an av cord. I have an extra power cable from a broken PS2.
Works great!

I mostly buy my vidya through ebay/amazon, craigslist, or local gamestores and garage sales/thrift shops/pawn shops.
Advice? Well...
>Look around on many sites and compare what you're getting.
>Always read the description so you know exactly what you'll be getting, and if you're unsure ask questions (if you're able to.) Sometimes people will throw in extras that aren't in the listing! (I almost didn't get my av cable until I asked about it.)
>Be patient if you're on an auction site. Good deals will come again, don't jump at something just because it's available now. Well, there's exceptions to this, some things you may never see again or the like

There's also better ways to search. For instance, on Ebay if you type something with a dash before it (ex: -sticker) it will remove any item that has that in it's title. Very helpful when you don't want to do an auction and would rather buy it now and want to find the lowest price. Just be careful you're not filtering out things you want! If you do -cables because you're seeing a lot of power cables you'll remove listings that may be "console with cables"

And pay attention to shipping. I'll find "great deals" and then find out shipping alone is $30+

inb4 people bitching about you guys supporting resellers by buying online instead of cheating ignorant middle aged people at their yard sales

One of the game shops by me pretty much focuses on retro gaming. Not to mention, they don't seem to charge ridiculous prices. Got Jet Force Gemini for $5 there, found some cable extenders, and there was quite the large selection of old games. The staff was informative and fair.
I have no problem at all supporting them.
But, hey man, that's just my opinion

Just got Time Stalkers

Also have Syd of Valis and Gex 3 coming in the mail.

I buy from Amazon. I need to setup another paypal account so I can start using Ebay again.

There is a retro video game store in the local indoor flea market but they overcgarge up the ass.

My tips would be. If using a local shop, make sure you check online prices first so you can compare. I fel its ok for me to pay a dollar or two more if I want it right away. But otherwise I always buy online.

Also expect to get what you pay for online. If you pay 5 dollars for a disc based game that would normally run for 10-20. Unless its in the discription, don't expect the game to be complete with case and manual.

I'm gonna order a copy of MGS. To be honest, the biggest reason I want it is because it comes with the Silent Hill demo and a SH poster.

>> No.998224

My copy of Mad Panic Coaster arrived, haven't busted out the ps2 to test or just dropped it into the pc to rip yet though.

You know why it breaks my heart every time I come to this board? I'm a /co/mic book guy first and a /vr/o second, but it's a very close second, and there are still too many books missing from my comic collection to start filling the gaps in my retro vidya anytime soon.

I owned a boxed Earthbound with a strategy guide two years ago, but I sold it to help fund a move. I've been meaning to buy a copy again. I also keep putting off Mighty Final Fight as I watch it go up ten more dollars every time I check in on a copy. Snatcher and Earthworm Jim for Sega CD would be nice. I also wouldn't mind me a copy of Little Samson or EVO: Search For Eden.

Bought a Sega Nomad from the US. Got a good deal on it, but shipping is a bitch. It's been in the country for 5 days, and still hasn't cleared customs! Very frustrating. I just wanna play some mega drive on my lunch breaks dammit!

How is the battery life?

>> No.999486

>>999484

Haven't received it yet, but reports of about 2-3 hours. Well be modding a new screen into it, which should improve things, and constructing my own battery pack. I'm aiming for 6 hours per charge

Not bad man that seems pretty good. I'd imagine that would cost quite a bit with the hand held though.

Not too much. Screen can be had for about $30-40, and I'm handy enough with a soldering iron to change it myself. Gonna cannablize a broken old camcorder I have for the battery pack

Most little mods are easy and safe. But Protip - if you don't know what you're doing, NEVER open up a CRT. That's a quick way to die.

I want one of those so I can play some Doki Doki Panic. I've emulated it but I only emulate to test out things I may have an interest in buying. And while I know it is essentially Super Mario Bros. 2 I wanna play its origins.

I recently bought a broken one (internals busted, beyond repair) and turned it into an emulation box with a Rpi. They're beautiful things, but so expensive.
