9986236 No.9986236 [Reply] [Original]

I bought a gdemu clone off of aliexpress and it doesn't like my 256GB san disk micro SD, but it works with the 32GB one I have.
About to try a 128GB SD card once I've finished backing up the files.
I've heard of people using 256GB micro SD cards with the gdemu before. Is there a reason why mine doesn't seem to work with cards that big, while others do?

>> No.9986290

>>9986236
Sometimes people get lucky on what brand or size works. Doesn't appear to support larger cards officially.

Supported memory cards:

SD: 512MB, 1GB, 2GB
SDHC: 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB

Other cards might work (SD smaller than 512MB and SDHC bigger than 32GB) but were not tested and are generally not recommended.
IMPORTANT: 4GB SD cards are NOT supported. Neither are SDXC cards of any kind.

It's an easier process to get familiar with the software but if you're determined you can rename folders and files to what they need to be, it can be a tedious process. Some of the software can be glitchy so spend some time familiarizing yourself with its quirks. Never interrupt a building card because it will fuck up the order of everything and you can actually lose games. You could be tempted to at times because it can seem like the software freezes but it will catch up and process if you just let it do its thing.

>>9986471
No. You'll want to use software that either lets you drag and drop to it, or batch processes everything in a folder. You'll also want to make sure it supports your SD. You might be surprised how many popular tools have a problem with this. You'll also want something that can deal with whatever autistic file formats you get. The autism is strong with redump. And you'll want something that can shrink all that. It makes a massive difference, especially with autismo dumps. Most tools are garbage. Anything decent will be on github.

I wouldn't be entirely shocked if the tard devoted his precious dev time to such a useless feature. But I think it's more likely you either fucked something up or are bullshitting. Time it. You only need to read a few KBytes per game to build the menu, not all 100GB.

>>9994508
>Please explain, in great detail, the excruciatingly minute differences between 32GB - 128GB SD cards and 256GB SD cards

Not that guy but some SD cards have fast burst transfer for copying but very high latency for access. The latter brings worse random access speeds, which is something that SD cards can skimp on since they are primarily used to save photos/videos, not used to load an OS or apps.

ODEs need cards with latency high enough so they don't end up replying slower than what the real drive would, which can crash some games.

This is the reason why GDEMO has a limit on recommended sd card sizes, larger cards tend to go cheap on the controller so they can fit more space in. But the problem is not exclusive to larger SD cards, so in all honesty whether a card will work or not is completely random.
