I'm quite the opposite. I was working on my PS1 collection but after Buying VIII my collection went to a screeching halt and I started buying Genesis games.

I took this a while ago with the games I could find. I do have more, and have got them back since I took the picture.

>> No.988224

My only collection of any note is my PS2 collection, amounting to 35 or so games. Followed by N64 at around 20. For the rest, I own no more than 15 I'd say. Saturn and Dreamcast come up the shortest, I only have three for the former, and I suppose technically zero for the latter since they're all pirated copies.

>> No.988243

>>988224
Yeah theres always that one console that you have practically nothing for.I have 3 games for my dreamcast, technically 4 if you count the one coming in the mail. And you would think that with so few titles to begin with, it would be easy to pickup all the good ones.

As for Sega Saturn no wonder because shit for that can be really expensive.

>> No.988258

>>988243

I actually got my Saturn (with the three games) from somebody on /jp/ in a gifting thread a few months ago. I've thought about getting some games, but it just seems like such a Japan orientated system, like none of the great stuff got released here.

Funny that you mention expensive, though, since some of them still had price tags on them. I think one was 50 yen. I figure it's one of those systems where all the games are cheaper in Japan, but hey, pretty much every retro console is.

>> No.988262

>Yeah theres always that one console that you have practically nothing for
Yep. Not that guy, but I have something like 30+ GB games, 50+ PS1 games, around 20 NES games, 50+ SNES games among many others, and I got a Saturn in a large lot of systems I bought recently and have yet to pick up a single game for it. I've been thinking about getting Nights with that neat controller, though.

Is there any particular reason Saturn games are as expensive as they are? Are they really as uncommon as games for other systems? Or is it because it's more of a niche thing?

The Saturn was not very popular in America. Thats why we have such few good titles for it. But in japan that shit was selling like hotcakes and so Japan has a much bigger library of games. So since there were so few good games in America, and a generally small amount of them, they have high pricetags.

I'm from Sweden. Had to import an NTSC-U N64 (grape color!) to get the most out of the platform, since it can also play NTSC-J games with some tweaking. PAL N64 sucks. Less games, 50Hz.

I get my imported games from ebay when it comes to American releases, but for Japanese releases there is a local online shop in Sweden specializing in JP games. Got some nice gems from there like Wonder Project. Also got myself the Japanese OB64, because, you know, dat box. Nothing sealed or mint, but good enough. I do wanna go to Japan to see what obscure retro games they have. Doing some digging I discovered a truckload of unknown interesting games for PS1/Saturn/Dreamcast/N64 and I wouldn't be surprised if they had even more tucked away somewhere over there.

The stores in japan are enough to make you weep with joy. Rows upon rows of pristine games. The japanese are merticulious - prefect collectors. I happen to be interested in one mostly unkown anime from 1989. I have managed to get literally everything released for it in 100% perfect condition. Heck, I even found release flyers carefully sealed in plastic and stored from the launch. Who even does that?

Also despite PAL sucking, I still like to collect it. It's what I played when I was younger, you know? I am, however considering a NTSC N64. Mostly due to the chat about it on here.

>> No.989305

>>989010
Gosh golly that sounds good. But now I'm curious, what's that anime you're talking about?

Also, definitely go for the US N64, PAL regions don't have a single N64 game US and JP doesn't.

>> No.989306

>>988896
Are you kidding me? Theres only like 600 titles on the Dreamcast, and that's not 600 US titles. Thats titles spread throughout every region and most of em were never released outside Japan.

Most other consoles have thousands of games released on them over their lifespan. But the Dreamcast only had a lifespan of about 4/5 years compared to most others 6-8.

Dude, those Wiki lists are never 100% accurate. I've seen a bunch of games not listed on there. If you're excluding jp only titles, then the DC doesn't have that much, but don't fucking do that.

Getting boxes for western releases is short of impossible for a sizable collection, either due to rarity or price. There's some site that sells these neat plastic cases, though, and another website that makes custom sleeves for the cases, I think I'll go that route if I ever get the money.

Actually, for me it seemed like only 3 years. Console was out in my country in november 99 and got it in the next month, then 2001 was actually the oficial last year and the best, 2002 was dead one with PSOv2 "only".

The person who said that only have 3 or games for DC should never have bought the console in the first place. I had at the time 30 and something titles, when I started pirating games I got more than 60 and I am still missing a lot of games that I want to play.

Now that bullshit of 600 games or thousands, who cares? You will never play every single of them.

Ok heres an story for ya. The story of how I got that copy of Sonic Adventure in >>990623

I went to Amazon and purchased me a copy of Sonic Adventure. The man claimed it was in "great" condition. I would only assume that he meant great as in complete with case and manual because the game was really fucked up.

Well it played for a while and then started skipping to I took it to the local shop to have it re-surfaced. Well little to my knowledge the man was a retard and buffed off the data layer so my game was useless.

So I go to Amazon and buy a new copy. Wait a month and it never shows up. Turns out the guy scammed me out of my money. So Amazon issued me a refund and I bought another. It turned out to be a launch copy and didn't boot at all, because launch copies were infamous for doing that. So finally I bought one more copy, made sure it was greatest hits because my case is greatest hits. But got sent a "Not for resale" edition that was not greatest hits. But I stuck with it anyways. I still have the other 2 copies for whatever reason.

You wanted a story and you got one.

Mah shiznit. Not pictured: 24k solid Gold SNES console, got it from a garage sale for $4. I got back into Snes a bit more this year, bought metroid for >$40 on ebay, today I bought FF3 for about the same. I want to get a super game boy and start buying those.

The retroport adaptor pictured works great, It's a great substitute for my 2 nonfunctional NES. My only complaint is that it has its own set of AV cables that run to the TV.

The worst part is I should have about 10 more boxes. Years ago, my brother who's obsessed with saving shelf-space convinced me to toss the cardboard boxes to all my late-release genesis games. Man, do I ever regret that.

I still have the carts and instructions, but finding the boxes in good condition for less than the price of just buying another copy of the game is difficult.

>>991251
That sucks man. It's really frustrating when you can't find common games in the condition you want. I was lucky enough to get my copy on Christmas Day, 1999 along with Rippin Riders.

How's Draconus? I've seen it at used game stores recently, but it was a bit too much for me to make a completely uninformed purchase.

In the US, NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, and VHS tape boxes were all about the same height and could all be placed on the same shelves without changing shelf height. This goes above and beyond collecting UNLESS all of this is out of sight in a basement room somewhere, or if it's the combined collection of a few bros. But if this is all just you, you either need to clean it up and make it look less like shit(be smart about displays. Yours looks shitty and ultra-childish), or pack it away in safety-seal containers. Hell, maybe even a firesafe if you want to feel extra safe.

This pretty much only started for me a few weeks ago. Before that I was a live-in caregiver for my grandma. I lived with her in a 1 bedroom. I had to sleep on the couch and my entire collection was stuffed in totes and put in the apartments storage. Luckily its indoor storage but it was put away for 2 years and all I had to play was my ds. So i had actually quit collecting retro and focused on DS titles at the time.
