If Nintendo released a game based on the Mario movie like Capcom did with Street Fighter, what would it have been like?

>> No.9973327

>If Nintendo released
Street Fighter: The Movie (game) was developed by INCREDIBLE TECHNOLOGIES(tm), and I doubt Nintendo would be nearly as willing as Capcom to trust them with their baby
Anyway it would play like an amateur Mario fangame but with digitized actors, weird FMV cutscenes, janky animation across the board, and kind of shitty gameplay where it doesn't know whether to feel super rigid or super slippery

One of them was, the other one was developed internally at capcom. They were completely different games.

I like to imagine Philips deciding to use the Super Mario Bros. movie as the basis for their CDi game, and the result being an FMV adventure game, not based directly on the plot of the movie, but rather another story set in the same world. Possibility:
>a semi-sequel to the movie
>you're the Bros.' new assistant, who finds they've suddenly gone missing
>in trying to find them, you wind up in Dinohattan
>you explore the city, trying to gather information
>find out they've been kidnapped by Koopa's son
>Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo show up for a couple scenes and some VOs (mostly so they can slap their names on the box)

Basic Mario collectathon but you get to watch clips from movie for cutscenes, oooh!

The only way I'd accept it, and the only way I would honestly see it happening, is as a CD-i game.

Watch the restored version which adds back a lot of scenes from a workprint VHS that they had to cut. The movie makes a ton more sense that way.

Would have been an action platformer or beat'em up, Nintendo would probably hire a third party developer for this game. The characters would be drawn cartoonish but movie accurate. The levels would look cool & futuristic. The music would have a futuristic rock or metal soundtrack. Would have also probably released on the Philips CD-I & PC because of the third party developer.

The George Clinton cover of Walk the Dinosaur is the best thing that came out of this movie.

That was the version I watched. My dad said after we finished that he nearly walked about but stuck cuz it was almost over and I totally felt it too. That movie is just dull. Like, there's good ideas in there but the execution just fails to maintain my attention.

worst case scenario: western-made game outsourced to Interplay, Acclaim or Virgin or one of these companies, with fitting graphics (probably something close to pic related) and shit gameplay and maze-like level design.
best case scenario: actual 1st party title developed by the Super Metroid team, basically a Mertroid clone with the SMB The Movie setting, you get upgrades like the moonshoes to reach higher places and stuff, explore the fucked up dinopunk Mushroom Kingdom, meet NPCs, etc.

The new Mario movie is unironically shit and its pretty unsettling that its success means that we might end up with more vidya films exactly like it to the point none of the investors will be willing to make a decent film ever again.

Because it is a movie, I think there could have been a chance that a third party actually could have made this. Because it would technically be licensed from the movie IP and not from the games. I think Nintendo would have still had some say in it happening. But, I think Nintendo would have allowed it, if it was on the SNES. I just imagine a game like this, being made by Ocean, or Acclaim outsourcing it to Probe, or something. I would imagine it playing like a 'maze-former', or a platformer with a lot of maze-like map design. I would imagine, there would be projectile weapons. The graphics would have a quasi-realistic style. The game would be set in dinoopolis (or whatever). Maybe Toad could be found in different stages, and he could sell the player items that he collected from the fungus. Maybe the super scope weapon, could be a power up. You could find 'high jump' boots that makes Mario and Luigi high jump. Game could have an over world that you could travel through in a non-linear fashion. It could be mode 7, with a car to drive around in. To me, a Super Mario Bros. movie game would almost be like a complete 180 from any traditional Mario game.
