Peak first world problem, but it's hard for me to decide between playing platforms like the original playstation on the actually hardware/telly or the mm+ these days. It really is mighty relaxing playing genres like roleplaying games in bed/on the ferry/etc. Playing on my phone felt like ass and the clip on controllers for phones are so huge.

Do you have autism or something? Carrying a separate game controller is still bigger than the device he mentioned, and you have to have a desk/surface for your phone and something to prop it against. Unless you like looking down at your lap to play games.

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

Did he really say that recently? because Aya is selling the 1215u i3 one for fucking $599 now. hell they're selling the 7320u Mendocino one for $550, so nearly twice as much as the 7320u Loki. Granted, Ayn could still cancel the SKU, but there's really no reason a 7320u device can't hit that price imo.

That said I just checked an ETA video with GTA5 running 720p/"normal" 21w on a 7320u laptop vs RGC running GTA5 @720p/"medium" (same preset probably) at 15w on the 1215u Aya Neo Air Plus. Trying to to account for the wattage difference with my gut rather than actual math or science, their real world performance actually seems pretty on par. Their CPU numbers on geekbench are similar too. Someone really needs to do a head-to-head video testing the same games with the same settings at the same wattages.

I disagree. Going to a park purposefully to sit on a bench to play games to prove a point(cause nobody would do that realistically, unless you were actually a kid or retarded or a predator) is a null action. What you're portraying is a weirdo who is potentially trying to entice kids for any reason, which is not acceptable. You're lackadaisical perspective will be cut short by reality when actual children are in the equation and you're a manchild in public. Self awareness is also a part of being an adult, so is societal standards and common sense. You're not a famous author, you're weirdo on 4chons using a quote from a Christian author to justify your borderline predator behavior, because you're a manchild. Faggot

Both great choices. Do you have a preference on size, weight, d-pad location, price, emulation capabilities (as in what systems it can run well), etc?

If you're deadset on an OLED, there's the upcoming Aya Neo Pocket and Anbernic RG506 that will both have OLEDs. Current devices that have OLEDs include the Aya Neo Air (not the Air Plus) and RG505.

For anyone who had doubts about Powkiddy Max 3 chip not being basically a 1:1 with the Amlogic S922X, I found the datasheet for an evaluation board which confirms it definitively. Most likely, the Amlogic S922X got discontinued and this was the next best equivalent replacement. It's usually used for deploying low powered machine learning in the field apparently with a custom NPU. Not sure if that NPU is going to just sit there and sip power though, do expect worse battery life because of that.

RP3+ is way smaller which is nice but less powerful and IMO isn't good value for money when the SD isn't that Mich more and doesn't involve dealing with China shipping, other stuff I don't know.

Tablet was drawing me in because it'd be good for watching stuff and other more multipurpose functions buy is obviously inferior as a gaming device, not sure what to go with.

Was it really that attractive? That iGPU with 2 RDNA2 cores is weaker than any Vega iGPU above Vega 3, and those are already dated by today's standards. And they want $50 for shipping as well, so the real price is $350. You can get the base model Deck if you pay just $50 more, and the Deck has 8 RDNA2 cores that will handily outperform not only that Mendocino crap but also any APU with Vega graphics.
>but muh small handheld
Does it really matter? Neither of those is small enough to comfortably fit inside a normal-sized pants pocket and even if they were, both have exposed analog sticks. You need some sort of bag if you want to carry either. Sadly pocketable X86 handhelds like GPD Win 2 are a thing of the past.
>but muh subsidized hardware
Does it really matter for you, as the end consumer? You can buy the deck and install Batocera or Windows and never touch Steam if you want to, Valve will barely make any money in this situation and you have a great handheld that you bought at a great price.

It's just 6Wh more than on the Deck and those Mendocino APUs are not as energy efficient as one may think, they need quite high cTDP for acceptable performance. I would be very surprised if it managed to beat the Deck in battery life. And both of those lose to ARM handhelds.

You sadly can't beat economics, those small chink companies never had a chance when big players started entering the market.

I turned the gameboy into a hori without resizing anything to make it easier to compare, and it looks like the gb actually had a worse screen-to-body ratio. the gg also had a better screen-to-body ratio than the Lynx, which I think is a better comparison considering they were both powerful horis with color and backlit screens. The Lynx actually had a (for the time) massive 3.5" screen halfway between 3:2 and 16:10. Personally I find the GG to be the most aesthetic and balanced design of the era.

Newest AAA goyslop is really badly optimized. No piece of silicon that exists right now can play it at 30FPS 720p using less than 15W of power. And manufacturers of those devices really want to push them as platforms for AAA games to justify the price and their high margins, despite handhelds being inherently not well suited for such things. There's also the fact that silicon performance gains have not really been that great in the last few years. With desktop CPUs you can always push the power consumption higher, but it's another story entirely with mobile CPUs. Take GPD Win 2. Its stock TDP is 7W. You can push it to 10W, but then it starts getting very warm. If you capped a modern mobile Ryzen SoC to 10, or worse 7W, it would be plain to see that the performance gains over m3-7y30 are not that significant. So you have games being optimized for desktop hardware that keeps breaking power consumption barriers and a wall we've hit in power efficiency. The only way to solve this is to take the same solution that worked well on desktops and apply it to handhelds: increase the power consumption. But you need a bigger cooling system to do that. So the handheld naturally needs to be bigger. Which makes it a worse handheld. But hey, at least now it can play the newest AAA garbage at 30FPS 720p lowest settings for 1.5 hours before the battery completely discharges!

Finally got my 35xx delivered yesterday after a few weeks of waiting from chinkland (but it was cheap, 51 Euros incl. shipping)
Already had an sd card prepared with GarlicOS and like 20 roms spread over gba, gbc, nes and master system. (don't need more, this will keep me occupied for a long time)

>I guess these people are too retarded to properly use a dpad.
My theory is that people who complain the most about this are the people who are to accustomed in playing on a normal controller using the analog as movement to play a 2D sidescroller platformer.
For me playing this type of devices it's all about the placement of your hand and fingers. I have big hands and the first time I played with the RG35XX my hands got cramps, after that I did some adjustment for how I play with the device and 2 to 3 days later I was able to play without problem.
I have been playing mostly 2D platformer games and top down games without problem with the dpad. Last game I finished was Mario 2 for the Famicom Disk which I highly recommend for other anons to play this god tier platform game. The top down games are mostly Super Bomberman from the SNES.

It's not easy to create a smaller list, my personal priority was to add games I would not play on a big tv, so mostly the handheld stuff (with some 8 bit games also added)

I did try to look at game gear but for my feeling it's mostly screen crunched master system games, and the few exclusives it has are not that brilliant. But i'm also not super familiar with it so I might have missed something.

Pico-8 games are almost all running slow on my RG35XX. After some testing it seems to be sound-related, because games with no sound all run at 60fps, games with interspersed music drop frames everytime the music kicks in, and games with constant music run the worst. I use two type of positions on my RG35XX. The default position is the bottom of my index fingers resting at the sides of the device with the middle of my index fingers resting at the side of the L1 and R1 buttons and the remaining of my fingers resting at the back going down and giving more stability. The other position is easy to swap, I just rest my right index finger in the straight position going to the top on the side of the device.
For the dpad I use the top and middle of the thumb which gives way more precision. I see a lot of people using the middle and the bottom of the thumb which is probably where they have a hard time with precision. Reminder that the buttons for this devices are smaller compared to a normal controller.
I also change the input settings for some games on systems that only has two face buttons. For example in Mario 2 on the FDS I changed the A button which is for jump to the B button and the B button which is for run to the Y button, after that it was more comfortable to play and gave way less stress on the right thumb. For some games I don't change the input settings like Duck Tales(play this game anons, is a really good platformer) for the NES which for me was more comfortable to do the Pogo jump with the default inputs settings.

It actually did. Nintendo always planned to have limited prints of Amiibo, so this faggot buying them all up and creating artificial scarcity of an already limited product had tens of thousands of irate fans blaming Nintendo for printing limited product to begin with. Even with two re-prints of every single Amiibo, Nintendo still can't satisfy customers, and most have switched to just buying replicas and substitutes for Etsy as a result. So, Pico-8 games on the RG35XX...
(I asked last thread but no one answered me.) Are there any settings to make them run smoother? All Pico-8 carts are running slow for me. I get 45-58 fps with tons of sound crackling. Games with no sound run at 60fps, though. I'm guessing the fake-8 core just isn't optimized for use on the RG35XX or something? I don't get how this thing can run everything up to PS1 but can't handle simple Pico-8 pngs.

Posting my quick review on the Powkiddy X28. Came in yesterday and I've been moving everything from my RP3+ to the new SD card I got for this. First of all, I don't know what fucking deal Powkiddy has with the postal service but this thing came super fast. Only took 1 week from me placing the order on their site. Now for some greentext points:
>as a lot of other people have said already, the D-Pad is actually not that bad at all. Tried that Contra test and was barely moving at all when pivoting the down key left and right. Had to deliberately almost actually touch left and right to make it go left and right.
>that said, one issue I kind of have is that I'm not the biggest fan of the glossiness on the d-pad but that might be because I've never used a glossy d-pad before. I might have to get used to it first. But overall, I'd say it passes my expectations.
>device feels rock solid, good plastic. only negative on build quality is that my R1 button is a bit loose and rattles but otherwise no problems, it inputs just fine.
>all the buttons in general feel really good
>Powkiddy's software and implementation of Android isn't the best but you can install Daijishou and then just ignore it

And comparing it to my RP3+
>RP3+ screen looks a lot crisper and the colors look better but the X28 screen still looks great too and being almost a full inch bigger almost makes up for what it lacks
>yeah the RP3+ has better performance than the X28 especially with the new drivers but this only matters if you're trying to push a few extra FPS in Gamecube and PS2. They're both still not ideal for playing either so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
>the controls on the X28 and where everything is placed is so perfect. Makes using it more enjoyable than the RP3+. The physical Android buttons are also a huge plus over the RP3
>the grips, while not as pronounced as I thought, still add a bit more comfort while holding it than the RP3
>L2/R2 don't work on some apps on the X28 while they do on the RP3+. Bummer, really hope someone makes a custom OS for this soon.

Like video reviewers said, it does feel grainy kinda like sandpaper but not the bad kind, it feels good to hold, nice and grippy.
>how is the audio compared to the RP3?
Way better, it gets way louder and sounds clearer.
>how do the shoulder buttons feel to press compared to the ones on the RP3? do they require more or less force to press?
They feel a bit harder/stiffer and require a bit more force to press but not to the point where it would bother me, it's a minor difference.

Got it for about two months, installed a 2TB NVMe - upgrading from 64GB is pretty much mandatory due to shader caches or installing Windows. Never realized how uncomfortable I was playing on PC until now. Thought it get tiresome to hold for a while and the side to side control layout would be a problem, but I actually have a better time with the half as heavy 3DS XL due to better weight distribution and the ergonomics feel just right. 4 back paddles spoiled me for life, trying to get used to gyro and trackpads for camera movement but the input flexibility is staggering even if I give up on those. Good build quality, surprisingly okay speakers, all in all pretty fantastic with minor caveats like the screen if you're an OLED snob. SteamOS doesn't feel like Linux with how everything is integrated, but full disclosure: I'm not afraid of minor tinkering like looking up necessary dependencies for my cracked games or reducing the gratuitous dead zones from default settings nor I'm interested in AAA shit for battery life to be a deal breaker, so your mileage may vary. You can still install Windows (and dual boot) and spend a while trimming the fat and setting it up to be similar, but it'll be ultimately inferior for your day to day needs while SteamOS handles you every handheld relevant setting fast and easy.

>> No.9974491

>>9974424
Not that anon but one question if you don't mind: How easy it is to integrate your GoG library? I have quite a substantial number of games on there I'd want to play on the deck, I'd say my PC library is split 50/50 mostly due to taking advantage of sales on both websites, or GoG having the superior version of some games like Homm3. I don't have much trouble using Lutris or Proton on my linux laptop but I don't know how well all that works together on a steam deck.

>> No.9974562

>>9974491
I hear Heroic automates GOG and EGS installs, I use Lutris for cracked games and it works fine. Every solution adds the games to steam painlessly, which applies MangoHUD and a profile on overlay to customize TDP limit, refresh rate, framerate cap, GPU clock, FSR.

I'm no Linux wizard (part of the reason it's so impressive), but as I understand it SteamOS is immutable, only your normally available settings, the home folder (games) and flatpaks from Discover persist after updates. You boot into Game Mode, which is fancier big picture mode with all the bells and whistles, and from there you can go into Desktop Mode on KDE. I think those are the main differences.

A little. Heard some installers sometimes don't just work for reasons, so I prefer to always install on PC and move the files over. If the game don't run as is, check ProtonDB and WineHQ for the preferable Proton/Wine-GE version (install them using ProtonUp-Qt from Discover) and any potential launch arguments. If it still doesn't work and it wasn't mentioned because steam installs those automatically on purchased games, google "game + linux" for dependencies like NET Framework (or look up dependencies on the game's steam depots yourself) and install them in winetricks on the game's prefix (think a layer of Windows just for the game). For Denuvo cracks IIRC you have to do a minor edit on boot settings, there's an easy .sh for that on YouTube videos (refers to cracked games as quacked?). Plain steamworks cracks tend to just work and when they don't, it's an easy fix regarding steam_appid.txt on its folder. The games can hiccup at first as they build up shader cache, that's normal, it goes away. If you're installing and uninstalling shit constantly, you'll need CryoUtilities or https://github.com/mcarlucci/decky-storage-cleaner to keep shader caches from pilling up.

Check this guide too, it's a little old but still useful especially for RPGMaker:

psp shaped. Cfw could make these devices half decent, but that's never going to happen, so expect worse performance than the v90.

Same chip as the v90/q90/bittboy/pocketgo, but the stock firmware is better than cfw on those devices. Has a fake cart to activate pins for very shitty homebrew nes games

Stuff like this gets left in when you have experience gaps and there's no way a small company is going back to spend the money retooling to address the issue when it finally gets spotted.

Look at the shoulder buttons on the pocket, look at its proportions and overall shape, it was designed to look great on a stand, ergonomically its worse than the original gameboy, they either didn't think very hard about what it was going to be like to play or didn't care.

Back in the day I indeed used my chunky TI92 for some games. This was before TI got the memo that it's a good idea to give users low level assembly access to get more (even if that means gaming on an graphically calculator) out of their hardware, when you still had to dumb a backup of the system patch/hack that backup and then putting it back on the device while ignoring the error message.

But I wasn't that much of a handheld guy back in the day. As actual handheld I only owned a Saga Game Gear, that like around 95% of game gears doesn't work anymore because of Sega using the cheapest caps available for the system.

During the 90's and even early 00's I never owned a Nintendo handheld, since neither those consoles nor the games appealed to me. Also the games were much to expensive. I only got an GBA and DS much later, but mostly for very specific games like Fire Pro Wrestling and the DS too mainly for the Fire Pro Wrestling GBA games and some golf games (even for my PS4 the killer application for finally getting one was Fire Pro Wrestling World). Sadly there were only two Fire Pro Games on that System and those even lacked features because of the limited number of buttons on the GBA. But beside those limitations the GBA Fire Pro Games (especially the first one) were much more in-depth than even the big 3D wrestling titles on the regular consoles. But since both versions differ very much at least I have both the english and japanese versions of both games.

Usually to me the exclusive Nintendo IP's are very unappealing and I don't feel any nostalgia towards them, since for the most part of the 90's and again early '00 I was more of an Commodore Guy and used my Amiga 1200 way after 2000.

For those interested in knowing, Powkiddy and Anbernic are two brands of the same company.
It’s the reason why they keep parity in regards to chips used in the handhelds. And why do they exist?
>Anbernic
House name, good quality, tried and true designs and chips
>Powkiddy
Cheapens on the quality, makes unusual designs that people might not like to test the waters, usually the first to use newer chips (experimental). The cheap brand is to not dirty the good name’s brand if anything goes wrong.
Both brands use the same programmers for the firmwares, and that’s why they’re so bad with firmwares.

The Fire Pro Wrestling games in general have a rather steep learning curve since most people are conditioned to play wrestling games like regular fighting games, but button mashing will get you nowhere in Fire Pro and the timing based gameplay is rather unusual for the genre. Also even between the various versions of Fire Pro the different timing can throw you off somehow. For a while after playing the GBA Fire Pro Games I tended to raise the gameplay speed of other Fire Pro Games (like Fire Pro Wrestling G on PS1, Fire Pro Wrestling D on Dreamcast or Fire Pro Wrestling Returns on PS2) up to around 125%, since this was closer to the speed of the GBA games that I had became used too.

Too bad that even with the GBA sequel they got rid of the most interesting part of the first GBA Fire Pro - the story mode where you didn't actual need to win matches, but rather fight for high ratings by actually working matches according to the tastes of various audiences, which did differ quite much. Only the MMA-Path was a race to finishing the opponent as quickly as possible. For some japanese promotions you had to work the matches well well-balanced and intentionally "eat" half of the opponents moves, for the "Showman" style of western promotions you had to bring all your trademark and finishing moves etc. After that there still was a rating system in Fire Pro, but there AFAIK weren't any specific modes again after that game to work specific audiences.

Also all the changes necessary for a western release (since some promotions threw a hissy fit because of the very familiar looks of the unlicensed fighters - the UFC even had objections because of the shape of the ring in MMA mode) were kinda pointless and sacrificing the management mode for just more edit slots wasn't the best choice.

Redditor just proving that he only owns things due to their assumed popularity, thought the shit nugget would be a hot item, and now he's desperately trying to convince people they should get one so he didn't ultimately spend $20 on a piece of shit that won't be worth $1 in a month. Literally chasing for the next Amiibo craze.

I would bet money you have NFTs.

Not sure if getting that or the RG353PS.
I don't give a shit about wifi or bluetooth, I want quality buttons and screen and the reviews I checked said the screen on the PK2023 was incredibly for the price.

>> No.9983253

NDS is fine. 3DS not so much although the newer Citra builds with Vulkan have greatly improved the performance to the point where some games will run great. I am able to play MK7 at full speed with those. Haven't tried too many others yet though.

With handheld should I buy if I want something d-pad centric (as in having it on top), great buttons, great screen, comfortable AND 4:3 screen?
I doubt I'll emulate something more demanding than PS1.
