I kinda feel the same way but I also think if I ever actually got to play it (as an N64 game, not Mother 3), the air of mystery would disappear and it just become 'a thing that exsists' for me. I almost prefer EB64 to stay vaporware at this point.

that is very true now that I think about it. everyone was clamoring for that prototype of sonic 1 with the rolling balls and UFOs and then it just dropped one day and everyone was like "good job team" and then promptly forgot about it. also as much as I'd love to see EB64 I do think it would've been kinda shit compared to what we actually got.

Complete schizo moment, but has anyone ever compared the credits of Okage: Shadow King to whoever may have been working on EarthBound 64? Some of the visuals of it make it seem like there is the slightest possibility that some of those who worked on 64 may have jumped ship after its cancellation and used some assets/experience to make Okage, especially since that was an early ps2 title. There were times where I was playing and looking around, especially the first village, that I thought, damn this is like EB64.

It's actually bizarre. Watching gameplay of BB2000 it has the same rhythm based battles as Mother 3, the hold down button to dash, and when you see enemies there's an exclamation point over their like you are being spotted on the overworld. Either the devs saw a demo of Mother 3 and lifted it's ideas or Nintendo figured they'd make back the development costs of M3 by selling some of the assets to Titus and they just altered them slightly. Now I'm going to be on the lookout for Blues Brothers or other Titus prototypes on the 64 to see if there's any leftover data that would prove this.

Does Player 1 dev staff have any nips working in it? I saw they also did Milo's Astro Lanes, Robotron 64 and there was a 4th one (Superman?) So i wonder if any of those also have any similar stuff in them, but maybe not since i think Blues Bros was their last release in 2000. When was Mother 64 officially canceled? Pre 2000 or after? Weird coincidence none the less. It would have been weird of Titus of all publishers to get pieces of it to use.

Late August 2000 it was cancelled right before Space World. Blues Brothers released in mid October. So unless it was scrapped awhile before they officially announced it the timeline doesn't really add up I guess. I read in an interview somewhere that Itoi still wanted to show off Mother 3 in its unfinished state at Space World 2000 even though they cancelled it, but decided against it as it would just confuse people.

>> No.9979961

>>9979941
>At first, Blues Brothers 2000 had its pre-production materials designed in-house at Titus Interactive Studio France while they deliberated on which company should be in charge of development. They considered H2O Entertainment along with three other developers. Ultimately, they chose to go with the development studio Player 1.[3] They aimed for the game to be released in late 1999.[3] However, the game suffered major delays.[4] It ultimately released in Europe on October 13, 2000 and in North America on November 17, 2000.

So yea it sounds like if anyone did have access to assets, it would have been Titus, not the actual devs. I think a good way to know for sure if its just a coincidence is to find 1999 or earlier screenshots or video of what the game looked like before its delays. If it's completely different then the final version, then the schizo hole goes deeper and makes one think of a rushed rebuild in 2000 using the EB64 assets they somehow would have got when it was internally canceled, but not publicly known.

If anything, by mere coincidence, like Okage, its probably the closest thing one can play to get a feel of what it may have been like. I actually bought 2000 at launch so now i have an urge to fire it again and let the conspiracy juices flow.

In terms of overall content/"what if this released", either Kirby GC or Final Fantasy IV on the Famicom (supposedly, they got quite far on it before being forced to shelf it).
In terms of sheer curiosity: Evolution for the Dreamcast was apparently targeting the Sega Saturn initially before getting moved up. >In terms of overall content/"what if this released", either Kirby GC or Final Fantasy IV on the Famicom (supposedly, they got quite far on it before being forced to shelf it).
Kirby GC got rebooted twice - first on GameCube and the second presumably on Wii - so there's no telling how far in development it got. The timeline that an Iwata Asks outpines indicates it was supposed to release around Air Ride..and you know what happened after that? Sakurai quit. So the game was probably Super Star 2 and had serious Sakurai (possibly Shimomura) DNA. Whoever picked up the project after the big exodus had no idea how to finish it, which is a shame. The hole in this theory is that Air Ride releases in 2003, whereas the 1st iteration of Kirby GC was shown off at E3 2005..so what were they doing in between? Unless Iwata got the date wrong, who knows...
Final Fantasy IV Famicom was doomed from the start. It was planned to be released AFTER Final Fantasy "V" on Super Famicom, which made no sense. Why even keep a numerical title? Clearly the pretention in Square's titles had early origins. There's no solid proof of this, but I really think the game got recycled as the final Super Famicom Final Fantasy V.
My holy grail would be Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur for Disk System. Despite Seiken Densetsu / Mana being a sort of Final Fantasy spinoff in the end, this actually predates the original Final Fantasy and would've spanned multiple disks. Sadly, it was too ambitious and preorders were supposedly exchanged for Final Fantasy. The rest is history.
>In terms of sheer curiosity: Evolution for the Dreamcast was apparently targeting the Sega Saturn initially before getting moved up.
New to me. Linear awakened some deep protective teen instinct within me and became my first game girl crush so the Dreamcast version came at just the right time for me, Evolution would've honestly missed my radar if it was on Saturn back then but I'll ponder what could've been.

It's hard to get a good image, but number of content and concepts from it were reused for RtDL (Some of the music and assets are labeled "GC" and don't match up; like "Fly, Kirby" is was labeled "Halberd", I think?)
>So the game was probably Super Star 2 and had serious Sakurai (possibly Shimomura) DNA
I remember one of the theories was that it was Super Star 2, especially once concept art of the menu popped up and it had a bunch of icons like Meta Knight's logo.
>There's no solid proof of this, but I really think the game got recycled as the final Super Famicom Final Fantasy V.
I believe that's also a theory that gets thrown around. Would make sense: OG IV was speculated and current V has a few elements of III in it, including at least one unused one (Blue Mage's sprite). Still, I could've sworn Sakaguchi still regreted giving it up in a post-V interview.
>Seiken Densetsu: The Emergence of Excalibur
Looking this up, it sounds extremely ambitious (5 discs). Once you start looking into it, Seiken Densetsu and FF share an odd history with each other. Guess this just adds to spoiler.
But now I'm curious if any of the other games used stuff from it.

They would have probably just changed the numerical title for release or went away with it for the Famicom version.

Releasing a Famicom game after the SuFami came out was probably out of the question for Square. They always made sure to be as technologicaly advanced as possible and marketed on that.

On the topic of MMOs I wouldn't mind seeing what some of the really early pre-beta builds for WoW were like. When stuff like the survival skill was still a thing. Game would probably be pretty barebones but would be an interesting novelty. Good chance Blizzard still has those builds buried on a 25 year old server somewhere considering they had source code and versions for every patch of WoW dating back launch.

MMOs in particular as a whole just present an interesting case of preservation due to them constantly changing. You also have a pretty large case of dead MMOs that never had any private server efforts made while they were live and there is not enough out documentation out there to do anything besides a guessing game to make the game work. Either way lot of games just completely lost to time and never will be playable again that's also the reality we live in now with all the live service games out there.

Wasnt it also recently revealed that Kirby Super Star had an NES version made first as a test version, similar to NES BotW?

It was quite the awakening realizing most screenshots of incomplete games were mockups or staged and not someone actually playing. Most unreleased stuff like earthbound 64 are probably barely playable.

After years of development and press. For example this image of an early build of the game I always imagined all the movement and bustling when in reality all those models were probably just placed there completely stationary.

I remember seeing a legit released preview video of Killer Instict for SNES that purposely included way too many animation frames for a 24 MB cartridge. We all saw how choppy it turned out.

Played it a few times in vegas. I was impressed by the sheer hunks of twisted metal that carried the ball up and down, but it was kind of a single objective sort of table. Seemed to need maintenance a lot. I was able to knock that clown's teeth in and grab the jackpot once, feltgoodman.
Is the deal with the devil boomer jew to never dump the rom still in effect? It'll sooner go extinct than get more production at this rate unless someone does some mission impossible shit.

Damn I like this version more than the later ones. Looks like an LSD trip hence more in line with earthbound.

Not really unreleased, but my current white whale are the final 5 tracks form F-Zero BS Grand Prix 2. They found the practice week ROM years ago, which how we got the new machines and first five tracks, but the Week 1 and 2 ROM's are still missing, which have all the unreleased Forest and Metal Fort tracks between them. The only evidence we have of the tracks are these videos.

There's a dreamcast game that's like Pokemon Snap but instead you control Tomoyo and have to record Sakura capturing the cards
