If you like rail shooters there's Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2, racing games there's Daytona Championship Circuit Edition and SEGA Rally, RPG's there's Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Wisdom, and Shining the Holy Ark. Manx TT and Virtua Fighter 2 are popular because they're cheap like Aladdin Genesis but personally I prefer the Capcom fighters, Fighting Vipers, and Fighters Megamix. Some people also like Virtua Cop but personally have not played it

I second the Nights and Panzer Dragoons, both very fun abd arcadey. Virtual On is also fantastic.

Very fun top down action adventure, a little like a more action focused Zelda game. Great exploration and puzzles based around using elemental spirits.

>Guardian Heroes
Similar to Smash, it's okay as a single player game but becomes a shit ton of fun with a few friends. Both the main story mode and the arena where you can have everything from skeletons to towns folk to elder demon gods and a bee all fighting each other at once.

It's way too short, but often over looked platformer that's in my opinion the most fun one on the system. Though Skeleton Warriors gives it a run in some parts.

Many of the games I played most heavily on it were fighters and the Daytonas which for the most part I find redundant now. Vipers and Fighter's Megamix are fun to break out now and then for their wacky factor in theory, but I can hardly remember the last time I did.

The console's strength was really solid arcade ports and similar games at a time what that was still something of a novelty. So now, it's library is mostly ports which have had better versions since, or arcade style games like Nights, Panzer Dragoon, Guardian Heroes, Burning Rangers etc which are great if you're into that style of game but if not there's not a ton of other variety.

Is there a single instance where a 2D game had a better version on the PS1 than on the Saturn?

The only one I can think of is Symphony of the Night, but that was because it was a super rushed sloppy port done by an inexperienced team just to that Konami would have something to release in Japan for its budget line late in the console's life.

Outside of that, as far as I can tell, every single 2D game was better on the Saturn than the PS1.

Silhouette Mirage, but even then it was just due to having more memory for backgrounds; everything else looked better on PS1.

SOTN could not have been ported to Saturn without missing a ton of the effects since it relied heavily on the Playstations way of mixing transparencies, doing lightning, and using a resolution all of which the Saturn couldn't do.
They could've done a better job, yeah, but it still would've looked a lot worse.

Everyone gets this wrong. The 4MB RAM cart is only used for a handful of games, all of them in JP only. Every game that does not use this cart is largely identical or arguably better than PS1 (OR Neo Geo in the case of games like Metal Slug and KoF). Never mind that stuff like Advanced V.G. 2, Capcom vs. SNK, and Marvel vs. Capcom never made it to the Saturn to begin with, only PS1 and Dreamcast.
