Puzzle games in general should be ranked by how good they are by how far up the skill ceiling can be. Maybe? Tetris, Puzzle League and Puyo Puyo are pretty much at the top. With shit like Yoshi being in the bottom. Then again, I have no idea about multiplayer for that one, but the single player is pretty shit tier

Puyo Puyo 2 (and its modernized variation as a ruleset in newer games) is the only VS puzzle game I have played that I consider reasonably well-balanced and viable for competitive play. I love the whole genre but the vast majority of it is jank including all other Puyo games.

Especially Puyo 1. It gets way too much respect in the West through its remakes, it's gigatrash

Yeah I understood anon, you mean Mean Bean Machine and Kirby Avalanche/Ghost Trap? I believe I've heard they're not quite 1, they're actually 1.5 and the Kirby one actually has a beta 2 ruleset hidden in an hidden menu (can't remember if you need a GS or not to access it) IIRC?
Too bad, because this has the one of the best rendition of Butter Building
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dyszSgw07o
Otherwise the reskins were fun. I wish we would still get new Puzzle League with reskins. But at least, because Nintendo cannot use the Tetris name for it again, we finally got Lip and co in some "official" capacity in the west. I was so fucking mad they removed the Lip stage from Planet Puzzle League. Fucking why?

I dunno, the point is that Tetris DS had crazy ass modes because of what you can do with the tetriminos, I can't see these be possible with Puzzle League, but who knows
But otherwise, Nintendo is sleeping on a great series again, probably because they don't feel like they can shove in new stuff, which is sad. Maybe we're due for a Nintendo Puzzle Collection 2 or something. Have this, Dr.Mario 64, Polarium, the Snes wrecking crew puzzle game, Puzzle Loop/Magnetica Twist (the wiiware/DS version with missions and stuff) and bring it all together with a museum mode with unlockable stuff a la Sonic Gems Collection and we could have a fantastic way to renew these games

I played some Bombliss games recently and found their main modes unsatisfying. It felt like the four-tile super bombs were overwhelmingly powerful; I always just wanted to make one of those in the middle and crush everything. The versus mode on whichever one I tried the versus mode of felt too volatile and random. The puzzle modes, though, were really interesting, and I played all the way through them in multiple games.

Pokemon Picross (GB) and Mario's Picross are really good for their sub-genre of Puzzle games ("Pen-and-Pencil" puzzles?)

The differences:

Mario's (GB) leaves more room for error, but never let's you forget your errors (noting how many times you restarted). The ones on Super NES don't record that, however (iirc).

Pokemon's Picross (GB) feels more fast-paced and hectic than Mario's: it leaves far less room for error (because you can't unlock everything if you don't beat each Picross puzzle fast enough, each error adding a minute to your time-completion score), but it doesn't note how many times you played/restarted a puzzle like Mario's (GB) does. It also feels slightly more rewarding, because (in a very similar fashion to Pokemon Pinball) it features a Pokedex of all the puzzles you completed and your song choice is depicted as the "current Pokemon you're using".

Zoo Keeper is the only match-3 game I know of (though I also don't play many match-3 games) where you not only can keep matching tiles while other tiles are in their matching animation, but those matches add to your combo. It gives it a Puzzle League sort of feel where you're thinking multiple moves ahead and timing your swipes to land at the exact moment the pieces drop to keep the combo going, but the relentless timer means you can't take too long looking for combos. The timer gets frustratingly fast as the levels go up, with your only real defense being making long combos and using an item to see where a match is, though you get a maximum of 3 and you only get one back at certain score targets. I hate how bad I am at it, but I still come back to it.

Definitely not Puzzle League. Casual ass chaining for babbies, slow as fuck gameplay where you're just sitting there waiting for the garbage blocks to convert into normal pieces and lack of timers means you'll be playing the same versus match possibly for hours on end, instead of gradually getting harder the longer you play like any good versus stacker will do.

Otherwise, there was an old Win 3.1 clone called "Uz" or "3D Uz" (it's not 3D???) that was fun but stopped working post-vanilla XP. It works fine in Wine however it's one of those games that works with your CPU speed and the in game speed slider doesn't go high enough for modern PCs, BUT, you can edit the save file to make it way higher, but there's still a limit and you're still not at a completely ideal speed. Panel de Pon is quite different though, instead of rotating blocks from the sky, you have to swap blocks rising from the ground and you move constantly in all 4 directions, all of that makes it considerably more different from Tetris than Puyo Puyo, or Dr. Mario that have blocks falling from the sky that you also rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise.
Whenever I play this game it's always a good indicator of how good my controller's D-Pad feels

Yeah, in other words it's a casualization of the falling block formula. It's far more difficult only being able to control one piece at a time, whereas in PdP you can rotate any of the blocks as much as you want via the cursor.

Shit is for retarded babbies, as expected from Nintenglobohomo.

So that's what Puzzle Guzzle is based on! It looks a lot less sterile, that's the same reason I couldn't get into PSP Panic Bomber.
