SimCity Mouse: Still at it!
I had some IRL stuff to deal with the past couple weeks, but i've added in-game camera shifting and menu hiding, optimized this and that, cleaned up blag blah blah, and i'm fixing dumb bullshit like this. It's basically done, i'm going to spend the next week or two trying to break the fuck out of it.
Mark My Words: It will be released before this thread dies =)

Coming back to this, I was quite shocked at how long it took the group owner to actually notice considering the guy who was behind that link I shared had so boldly posted it in the group chat itself not that long ago before they finally took notice, but also disheartened to see how against sharing they were, despite the fact that a lot of what they do share in there was either datted long before they got it or they had gotten it from other users of the group that had already spread the content around

Here's some patched hacks

P.O.W. - Prisoners of War (U) [!] - Two Players Hack v1.6.nes
Graphic glitches a bit, but I guess that can't be helped with too many on-screen sprites.
https://files.catbox.moe/37gbzq.nes

Rambo - Two Players Hack v1.6.nes
Same game, but it's the Rambo hack. The other player can't be Trautman, because he's missing the beret. Maybe he's Braddock. Personally I like to believe they blew up Rambo's friend, Rambo kept trying to put them back in... and it worked. And now they're both pissed and out for revenge.

Did you people right new code for old pinball machines from the late 1970s? So the physical layout is the same, but the scoring and objectives are different. And sometimes there's new sound effects.

Pre-PCM music hacking in general can be tough, and SMB especially has quite a limited driver with a lot of convoluted junk
I did a full music replacement hack a while back and got a decent understanding of how it all works
I can dig up my notes, conversion sheet, and hex bookmarks if you're interested

Alternatively, recently hacker StudsX managed to implement the FamiTone5 driver in his SMB1 disassembly, enabling easy insertion of FamiTracker compositions provided you follow the restrictions. Much easier if you want anything more than some basic vanilla music changes.

>>9975084
I made the poor assumption that SMB would feature an easy audio driver when I started music hacking lol
Most 8-bit era audio drivers I've fiddled with since have been a lot better, but Nintendo's often seem "optimized" for the game in question and limited to that, vs. capcom/sega/etc. who made them more comprehensive and all-purpose

Because it's fun to make people learn. If you really understood romkacking, you would know that many a tutorial are full of missing information that should be extrapolated from the rest of the tut. It's a way of keeping others sharp and you will understand that tools better if you're forced to figure them out at least a little bit. I figured out nifskope by fucking around and using a few YouTube guides, but nothing I ever read taught me the little quirks of the program I figured out by experimenting.

Reversing is fun but what the other replies are missing is that rom hackers tend to be amateur reverse engineers at best who have little experience than poking around at shit just to figure out how to get what they want done. Don't assume someone in homebrew/romhacking scene has been educated on or has experience with software engineering first principals

Fucking zoomers... At least PHP-BB and Reddit (for all the hate it gets around here) are searchable and you can find niche answers to obscure questions...
The sad truth is that alot of these super custom editors for obscure games are slightly broken too, and it's quite possible you may be the first person in history to run into some of these highly obscure bugs. Fun times in Trial and Error land: I'd suggest getting a local GIT instance running for source control and backup that shit early and often, just in case your weeks / months of work end up in Corrupted File Hell.

yes, but from what i understand, with caveats. it's a new feature. i believe you're stuck at the original gameboy processor speed as of now, as opposed to the 2x speed it is capable of, but that might change tomorrow or 4 years from now, who knows

Sort of. GB studio as of right now can make black cart game boy games that are technically just game boy games as far as hardware goes, but they support full color for game boy color/advance but cant use game boy color exclusive hardware features.

On top of that GB Studio has features that can lock the game out of certain systems, so you can make a full color DMG gameboy game that will only play on a game boy color but not on a DMG or super gameboy but its still technically a DMG game on the hardware level. GB Studio really is just an original gameboy development tool that can make late era game boy games with all the features like super game boy support and color pallettes while still not being a true game boy color game technically speaking.

Dont know if that makes sense.

plus i introduced a fairly nasty console only bug which has been pissing me off... something about something i DMAd into the graphics makes the game very unhappy and load all of the menu graphics a few tiles offset, and, of course, the emulator works perfectly. so there's that.......
i don't want to release the hack like that, but if i can't figure it out, i might have no choice..... which Sucks
