Why is it so underrated?

>> No.9944934

I played this fucker to death in college. We'd stay up all night doing Time Trial mode on Baby Park. Always will be one of my favorites.

Yeah OP is full of it, DD is highly regarded

Loved the drifting, easily the most addictive Gamecube game

>underrated
not anymore
its getting its dick sucked all the time nowadays.

This is considered underrated? Everyone calls this the best Mario kart game. It's also the only good Gamecube game.

this is all true, also its the best co op mario game

Idk. It took me some time to get a grip on it but it's good. It didn't shake it up too much but it did change it up enough. My question now is why is 8 so popular and long lived? Why haven't partners been brought back in atleast a special game mode?

>> No.9944990

It was too early in the series for it but I wish Double-Dash had retro tracks. Mario Kart with only 16 tracks just feels so short.

>> No.9945007

>>9944928
i dislike the track design and item selection in this one. the peak of item balance was mario kart 8 on wii U.

>> No.9945012

>>9944928
People who care about the actual racing part of Mario Kart tend to dislike it because it's sort of bad in that regard. People who like it tend to like it for the music, aesthetics, the co-op gimmick etc.

This, it's bland, no hopping, excessive rubber banding and far too linear.

>> No.9945042

If Double Dash is so good how come it's the only Mario Kart to be outsold by the Smash Bros on its respective console?

>> No.9945046

>>9945042
Because the Smash Bros in question is Melee. Getting outsold by that game isn't something to feel too bad about.

>Caring about item balance in a mario kart game
why? double dash & wii were much more fun with power ups like mega shroom and chain chomp. Whats the point of the game if the items are "Balanced"? just play outrun.
>it's bland
LOL

because as good as double dash is, melee is even better

I don't see the issue

Double Dash released a couple years after Melee, which was about halfway into the GameCube's life cycle by then.

This is the correct answer. Wii U sold like shit and Smash 4 was considered mediocre by most. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was a launch game for the Switch so it had a head start. Not sure about the Wii, but that console was also popular among people who never owned a console before and they all bought Mario Kart instead of Smash Bros. GameCube was for real Gamers so Melee sold better. And back in the 64 era Smash was more of a niche title still. Simple as.

It was pretty disappointing after the previous entries in the series.

A Cartoon Network one too. It was released when all the shows featured had already been cancelled.

Because everyone either slept on Gamecube entries or bashed them to no end back then for being different. It's only recently that people are warming up to Gamecube entries and prices are going up as a result.
There are still people who are eternally salty about the system launching with Luigi's Mansion.
