Vangers and Baroque are both premium games-as-art pieces
Fans of this chart would also probably like MoonRPG, even though nothing about it can be considered grotesque, it carries a similar atmosphere that, though not particularly horrifying, is rich n heavy and really makes the game memorable. Also the music kicks ass.

a healthy adult should at least be able to visually detect the naked form of the opposite sex at a glance. this instinct is so powerful that you should see it even if it wasn't there.

I created that, i wanted something sort of in line with science/technology,surrealism and body horror. Like David cronberg/hr giger and Shinya Tsukamoto asethetics. But alot of what I added was "scifi monster aesthetics"

>>9944719
Yes they are. Killing the enemies in this game tells you a backstory of what happened to the townspeople. There supposed to be multiple people morphed together. There is a boss battle quite literally the human centipede.

Idk, LSD could count, but I think what hinders me from adding it to that list is that it only has one part of a level that is grotesque. the rest is really some psychedelic fever dream .

i appreciate the work that went into this, picks like Cruelty Squad, Garage, Hylics 1, Abadox and Scorn are excellent, but some others confuse the fuck out of me
>IHNMAIMS has some semi-gross stuff but i would say even games like Doom and Blood are more grotesque to play
>Contra has 1 gross segment near the end, other than that completely average. plenty of NES games are more gross than this
>Sanitarium has 2 segments that are grotesque and the rest is pretty tame
>Kyoto is just showcasing how nasty ancient japan could be, but not really grotesque
>i'd agree with Tormentum being on if it didn't look and play like a phone game
also you should 100% include Bad Mojo, literally a simulator of exploring someone's filthy as fuck apartment
and maybe Tongue of the Fatman, though I am not sure if that is even a good game, but EVERYTHING about the look of it is grotesque as fuck
and as for modern stuff, Isaac

Why remove System Shock 2? Inside The Many, specifically the crushers and the audio logs, are horrifying. The way the hivemind is described as a "chorus of life" and the interactions you have with it also leaves a pretty distinct mark.

Deeper still is the beauty on both sides of the arguments (Shodan and The Many). Why would you choose cold metal over warm flesh? Why would you choose disgusting living chaos when you could embrace the perfection of metal?

The whole game is about body modification and all the visceral beauty that would entail.

Linda cubed is pretty mild outside of some minor gore, it got the 18+ rating because of a scene where a guy manipulates a corpse to make it look like he's smiling. I guess the monster designs are mildly grotesque, but they're more funny looking than weird. Resident Evil is more grotesque.

There was a Japanese grotesque shmup that I think came out on home computers where the protag has been embedded inside a biological ship and I think there was some sort of floating lady who was with him, like a fairy or something. I have no idea about the plot because it was Japanese, but I think that in the final cutscene, he remained trapped inside this flesh ship. I heard about it here on /vr/. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

You and I seem to be on the same wavelength. I finished Baroque recently and loved it, and I have Vangers on Steam.

If you're anything like me, you'll enjoy Hell Night from that chart, it's nowhere near as artistic as Baroque but it goes very interesting places in the latter part of the game. Even near near the beginning though you should have an inkling of how different it's going to be when you see the scene with Razzo when you enter the Mesh.

I'd like your take on the ending of Baroque if you don't mind.
Why was "God" unable to fix the distorted world? I get that there's a message about accepting your nature as a flawed being instead of striving for a non-existent (and dangerous) perfection.

But in-universe wasn't correcting distortions "Gods" entire purpose? If the Archangel could cause people to start turning into Grotesques by feeding "God" false data based on his Tarot fetish, and the Protagonist could rewrite reality so that his twin survived instead of him, then why could the world not be reverted?
