It's my favorite Zelda game and one of my favorite games period, but I do acknowledge the time limit may put people off, as well as the big part played by simple trial and error and staking out characters and locations for small little hints and insights on what to do. I don't mean THAT specifically is the appeal by itself, but it contributes to make you fully take in the setting and atmosphere while you just hang out doing your nonsense.

Ironically, the changes in the remake addressing those "issues" for a broader audience completely warp and spoil the experience. I'm unironically sorry for people who play that version as newcomers and simply get a bland ersatz experience as a result. I enjoyed the OoT remake though.

If the game is just "okay" by most everyones standards that usually means a lot of compromises were made to appeal to everyone.

Yeah man its great. MM is packed. In non retro games I get so bored running around the open world stuff and I feel like they have even less content than MM spread over it. MM isn't really open world I guess but you never really get tired of the environment in the open field because of how drastically they shift the biomes. It may seem inorganic but it really fucking works. and then you have the goron roll which just makes moving around fun as hell. I have no idea why not even the zelda series can replicate that.

>ALBW is just a light remake of ALTTP anyways
I would agree with this, if not for the wall-merging mechanic. Wall-merging alone makes ALBW completely distinct from ALttP, changing the design of both the overworld and the dungeons.
ALBW had a lot of other things too, like item renting and the auto-refilling magic meter. The story and the OST were really good too.
So yea, I don't think calling it a remake of ALttP is entirely fair.

>> No.9937351

Far more interesting and a much better game than Ocarina. Best atmosphere, interesting NPCs. Seriously, I love following them around and talking to them at the end of the third day when the world is about to end. I love how the game has a greater focus on just helping people and less on the dooongeons. And the dungeons that are there might be the most challenging and sadistic across the entire series.

>> No.9937359

>>9937343
I'm not trying to say he didn't do anything, but all of the pieces were kind of already there.
Most the bosses are just modified versions of the ALTTP ones, same with the dungeons and enemies.
I do like ALBW, and wish its the direction the series went in instead. But aonuma wasn't even the director for that one, he was just the producer. Which makes sense because it seems like he keeps his focus on the mainline games.

I first played OOT last year via the pc port at 144fps. It was amazing and has shot up into my top 3 favorite games. Is it worth waiting for the pc port to MM or should I just play it already? Does it have a 60fps mod and widescreen mod and such?

>> No.9944451

>>9944442
The pc port at this rate isn't going to be done for another 3 years. Any 60fps mod will break the game so dont use them, theres the "redux" mod which adds widescreen and a few other QoL stuff. Theres also nerrels HD texture pack, which is the best texture pack in any game IMO.
The base game runs at about 20fps consistently, so you'll have to tough it out big boy. Keep in mind too that this game was also made in a single year.

>> No.9944456

>>9944442
i personally don't think the fps boost is necessary for oot and mm and i have a 170hz monitor

the animations are all keyframed very nicely and the game has good framepacing so it never feels sluggish. also all the game logic actually runs at 60fps so it's extremely responsive

i would recommend using the "redux" romhack that removes minor annoyances like having to watch a cutscene every time you use the elegy of emptiness, etc. i don't personally like nerrel's pack but that's really up to you. i'd play it at 240p with an optional crt filter

The problem with low fps was and has never been choppiness, it's the input lag that it adds. The game can only start an action when it starts a frame so, 20 frames per second can add 50ms of input lag. Animation choppiness can be stylized (just look at how anime runs with limited animation), but you do not want choppiness in your inputs, so to speak.

Worse, low frame rate produces the worst kind of input lag, inconsistent input lag. If your button press is right before a frame it is more instant than if you pressed it farther back between frames. The brain can account for a consistent delay, the delay in our peripherals can feel unnoticeable. But it cannot "bracket off" a delay that is random, the alignment of your inputs with the games clock rate is essentially random. High frame rates make input misalignment have less wild variance. In theory a game could render at a modest frame rate and run its logic/inputs at a more snappy frame rate, but I don't really know any game that has tried to decouple these.
