The picture is evidence that there is a campaign against the Flip. It's perpetrated by left wing pinkos to cripple the free markets and we wont have any of it.
If you see a broken hinge, report it as offtopic or racist.
Chang didn't do nothing wrong!
Leave Chang alone!

I did the work and downloaded and updated the "tiny best set go" romset with the latest updates and images for GarlicOS for a 128GB sdcard (93GB). It's good for Miyoo Mini and RG35XX.
I didn't put the files into a zip because sometimes people want to just download the ps1 roms or segacd roms or something.

How long until we get a Retroid (or other decent quality device in the $100-150 range) that handle full speed PS2 or at least the entire Gamecube library at full speed? Are there any low-priced SoCs out or on the horizon that could be used in such a device?

Regardless of some of the hype out there, there is actually a large gap between what the RP3+/Flip is actually capable of and being able play the entire PS2 or GC library at full speed.

picrel: I preferred the staggered thumbstick layout of the RP2 over the RP3/Flip layout, though hall sensor sticks with R3/L3 and analog triggers are nice improvements

I mean I'd be willing to pay more than the $150 mark but another issue is that the "handheld" devices that are significantly more powerful also tend to be larger and heavier. As far as handheld emulation devices go, the RP3 and especially RP2 have great form factors. Hopefully hall sensor thumbsticks and analog triggers (you can use them for analog acceleration/breaking even in some PS1 games) become standard on all Retroid devices from now on.

The RG506 with a D1200 is probably coming out later this year, and that chip can cover almost every PS2 game from what I've seen. iirc it's going to come with a 5" OLED 1080p screen, so probably around the size of an RG505 or 552. Obviously not as small as an RP3 or something, but a lot smaller than a GPD XP+. Likely gonna be anywhere from $250 to $300 based on what my ass is telling me.

>> No.9931231

>>9931207
btw if anyone is wondering how to use analog triggers for analog breaking/acceleration in PS1 racing games, here is how you do it. Some racing games, like Gran Turismo 2, allow you to use the right stick for analog acceleration and breaking. Configure your controls this way in game, and then in the emulator, swap right stick up (acceleration) to the right trigger and right stick down (breaking) to the left trigger.

Will it get you better lap times in GT2? Probably not, but it's fun.

For what it's worth it was actually not running at fullspeed on my RP3+ until I turned frameskip off. I've tried to play one of the Shining Force GameGear games on Picodrive once and it ended up causing all sorts of weird shit to happen with the visuals, so I think the core may simply have issues with runahead. Maybe try turning that off if you have it on and see if that fixes it.

This is one of the reasons I never bought a switch. I understand why it's necessary but that it is necessary shows it's not ideal for a portable. For desktops the idea of low tdp went out the window. There was a point you used to get lower tdp (or at worse same tdp) and higher performace every year. Only smartphone processors seem to keep increasing performance without exploding but the costs can be prohibitive for other applications.

Alright lads. Posted in the last thread about power issues I was having with my RG35xx where it just wouldn't turn on or charge like half the time. Managed to fix it by completely draining the battery then leaving it on to charge overnight, no issues since. Make sure you don't use one of those "Fast Charging" power bricks because it could make the chink battery start acting up.

Beat both Kirby's Dream Land games and also the original Wario Ware. The shoulder buttons are still dogshit and uncomfortable but I think it's a decent product if you can get it for cheap and win the Anbernic QC lottery. The 640x480 screen is surprisingly very crisp and sharp for everything you throw at it. The bezels are nice and thin so it's a good looking screen for a chinkheld IPS

I posted about the Logitech GCloud several months ago and I'm back. I've been using the device for about 4/5 months at this point. It's honestly very good in terms of ergonomics, battery life, and ease of use. Performance is sort of so so with GCN and PS2, but everything below works really well. After some updates it now has touchscreen to button shortcut, trigger and stick dead zone calibration, and android back swipe gesture support. It's a shame it retails at $350, and I bought it at $300 with my work bonus. If the thing was $200-250 it would be an easy recommendation, but honestly at $300 I don't feel too burned for how much fun I've had with it

The Miyoo Mini+ is being way more shilled amongst chinheld hobbyists and normie adjacent hipsters than just about anything else outwith the Miyoo Mini V2.
Bought the Mini+ and am hating it's d-pad issues - d-pad has a very narrow and shallow pivot that makes it way too easy to produce false up/down inputs, occasionally fails to register a direction even when pressed down and is difficult to register diagonals at all - so far as I've tried, reddit paper mod did not fix this.
Looking at the PCB, it seems to have the same design flaw the face buttons of the current Xbox controllers where contacts are completely separated and don't intersect, so diagonals do not bridge contacts and neither do cardinal directions if you ever happen to press them diagonally.
I wouldn't know how well the Anbernics hold up in comparison to the Miyoos in that regard but I'd definitely urge against getting the Mini+.

Reminder that Lenovo would've released this under their Legion brand as the Play if they didn't drop it like a hot potato and it's probably why Logitech priced it so high because even though they didn't do any of the R&D, they want to recoup their money buying it out from Tencent that did work for Lenovo for the Android customization and etc. who priced it to get their money back.

PSP and PS Vita both have ARM type CPUs, but that alone doesn't make them identical in almost every way except for the latter being able to do more rendering of polygons and the presence of a touch screen. The ARM architecture between the two are indeed a generation apart. PS Vita still more powerful than the DS, DSi (+ XL variant), PSP, and the og 3DS. Vita's GPU is also more powerful than its predecessor by at least a middling margin. ARM Cortex SGX543MP4+. Overall, at the time of its initial release it was quite a marvel. Now, barely half that at best.

This is interesting. I did some calculations. If you have a 16:9 screen and cut off the sides to make it 4:3, the resulting diagonal of the view area will be 81.7% of the whole screen. So indeed if the screen is 4.7", at 4:3 with black bars the view area will have a diagonal of 3.84".
Even worse on modern phones. Mine has a 1080 x 2412 resolution, roughly 20:9 aspect ratio, 6.6" diagonal. at 4:3 the view area will be only 4.5", roughly 67.6% of the whole, which is basically 2/3 of the whole screen diagonal.

First off, why would you care anyway? RetroArch and a few extra emulators is all that matters. Even if I had no Play Store, it's trivial to get emulator APKs. The only real issue is updating them.
Second—are you really, really sure Android 11 is that much worse? I have a phone on Android 6. It's 10 years old—literally. Still has RetroArch that plays everything and has every core. Still has ePSXe.
Especially today, Android only introduces slight changes, like more customization, security, improving support for meme things like VR / wireless headphones and other bells and whistles. Literally all irrelevant for a retro handheld.
Maybe 7-8 years from now Android 11 support will be dropped by some devs. I'm sure it will feel terrible to get stuck with a 2031 version of some emulator in 2033 on your favorite T618 device. You will never get to see that minor graphics fix in Mahjong Gaiden 1995 (J) [v1.1].

I don't get it about the RG35xx dpad complaints with diagonals.
I saw the video from RetroGameCorp with the "contra test" where you press down to duck and then try to make the guy walk by wiggling the dpad in the down position.
The anbernic makes it easy to walk when pressing down while the miyoo mini doesn't.
However, when I try to do the same test with a bunch of controllers I get similar results as the anbernic, e.g. the genesis 6 button & snes classic show the same behavior. The nes controller is less extreme but still easy to do so.
I know these aren't the OG controllers from the 90s but they are official enough for me.
At the same time, the wii classic controller (with the cable coming out the front like the dreamcast) is a lot stricter and harder to do diagonals that way.

So how valid are these complaints? Are they just from spergs that only compare it to (more) modern controllers?
Note that I don't have a RG35xx yet still waiting for shipment from chinkland.

Holy KINO!!! I shocked by how well the screen and audio stacked up compared to the others. The audio completely crushes everything else (because the RP3+ audio completely crushes the Flip and 405/505 audio), but I wasn't expecting the screen quality to beat the RP3+/Flip in any measure aside from size and scalable resolution.

The d-pad diagonals are probably fine outside of Russ's retard hands, but that SMW footage in particular did look kinda worrying. Hopefully worst case scenario it can be fixed with the tape trick like the Anbernic pads. That analog cardinal snapping is fucking horrific, though. Even the RP3+ has it and it triggers the ever loving fuck out of me, but that looks straight up 505-launch tier if not even worse. Thankfully that's something that could be fixed on the software side from someone like the GammaOS dev, but unfortunately Powkiddy is being fucking retarded and not sending him a unit.

That's the 405 dingus and he even said the real world performance is on par with the 405 rather than the RP3+.Flip.

The analog stick problem seems like it could be easily fixed through some software calibration. The d-pad having overly sensitive diagonals is a bit of a shame but it could also just be Russ being really autistic with his Contra tests and it's not actually that big of a deal when actually playing games.

The SMW bit has me a little concerned, but yeah Russ tends to have all kinds of retarded problems and completely different impressions than me when it comes to controls on the same devices, so I've come to realize to take whatever he says about d-pads or buttons with a massive grain of salt. At the very least most other people including Retro Tech Dad thought the d-pad was great. I do also prefer a slight bias towards diagonals in my d-pads, not as much as he demonstrated, but as usual it seems I'll need to try it for myself to know how it actually performs.

What's the least expensive emulation handheld that can handle DreamCast games flawlessly/almost perfect? I was hoping for something in the $70-90 range, but most of those either have fuck-awful designs to them or can only run up to PS1 reliably.

I literally just want handheld DreamCast, though being able to do N64, Sega Saturn, and Dolphin would be amazing too. I already have an RG35XX, I love it but it's limited to up to PS1, so being able to run anything before PS1 is redundant for me. I don't mind if it's a vertical or horizontal handheld, as long as it's durable, feels comfortable, plays DreamCast games reliably, and doesn't cost over $100.

I can wait if such a handheld doesn't currently exist.

>3 colors: white, gold, and sapphire blue
>sapphire blue is not the same blue as on the x55, insider guy doesn't know if color in the pic is just a prototype color or one of the actual production colors

I thought it was fucking hideous at first, but I'm kind of okay with it now. I think a different colored shell would help its appearance a ton. Thanks lad, that's a pretty interesting breakdown. I'm not trying to be an argumentative cunt, but the bench RGC used in his video had the x28 at 94.19% of the RP3+'s score, while this geekbench comparison shows the 505 at 92.15% of the RP3+'s score (averaged single core and multicore scores together), so they seem pretty on par to me. Regardless we know the RP3+/Flip perform better in real world emulation than the 405m, and yet the 405m benched better here, and furthermore RGC says the actual performance of the 405 and x28 is pretty on par in reality. Honestly, it seems likely to me like everything but the RP3+/Flip is roughly on the same level. Until you put GammaOS on the 405, at least. Even the Retro Tech Dad video only did real world comparisons with the Flip.

I was already perfectly satisfied with the performance of my 505 as well as pre-patch RP3+, so I don't think I'll have any issue with the X28.

I found the best dolphin version for the rg505 and rg405m and t618 consoles
Few know this version of dolphin, it's called ishiiruka and after many tests I consider it the one that worked best for me on my rg505, less fps drops, more stable fps

Adults don't have room for videogame consoles in their pockets unless you count their phone. We have wallet, keys, phone, and maybe one extra pocket for airpods and a vape.
I don't have a portable console but if I did then I'd prefer the steam deck or whatever if I had a suitcase, went camping, or am otherwise in bed or at a friend's house. It looks better than a laptop and PS Vita combined.

For Android Phones.

Got an older android? Something with 2gb of ram? Preferably android 6.0+ os.

You can take that phone. Strip a lot of the stock firmware out of it: google play, youtube, facebook, carrier apps, samsung/lg/sprint/account... can all be uninstaled using a software called Universal Android Debloater.

Before you use this, you want to install the F-droid/Droidify Apk first. This will give you an alternative app store front. You can also learn about Aurora Store and micro g services to get google apps without a google account necessary.
F-droid/droid-ify: these will let you download apps to replace whatever spy/stock firmware that you will remove. (Example: youll want to install a new launcher or keyboard app first before removing the stock launcher or keyboard)

Take your time.

Grab retroarch from droidify along with any other emulators desired.

Then plug in your phone with usb and fire up the universal android debloater after installing it on windows or linux or whatever.

You will notice a tab that says recommended at the top. -These are all the safe to debloat software/apps-
Click this tab and you can choose advanced, expert, unsafe. These are the levels of "safe to remove" apps and firmware. (If you know what youre doing you can uninstall more than the recommend but READ THE NOTES ON WHAT YOU DISABLE FIRST) Click each package and it will give you details on what youre uninstalling. Go through this and strip out all that you dont want. This will pump your battery life UP and reduce cpu/gpu loads.(we wanna focus that on gaming after all) and once youre all finished. Hit reboot(refresh icon) in the debloater gui and unplug your phone after it starts up. This is great for making a game centric device as well as everyday phone use if you're simply inclined to increase the life and customization of your phone.

For example; I really loved the lg premier pro lte. And now I have 3 of them that I use for mp3 players or emulation up to ps1.

I'm hoping they come eventually but I don't have much confidence that the Chinese engineers designing these things can pull that off. They can barely produce single screen devices that are sturdy, reliable, and have decent ergonomics.

Anyone know how this would be pulled off? Would it require that the SoC itself can output to 2 displays?

>> No.9946743

>>9946730
They cannot release new consoles that are both cheap and provide a massive performance improvement at the same time, so I assume releasing handhelds with two screens is next on the table.

>> No.9946756

>>9946743
If they come out any time soon I'd expect them to be rather expensive. As far as the SoCs in Chinese handheld emulation devices go, competent 3DS emulation would require something on the higher end. If it doesn't play 3DS, then that largely defeats the purpose of the device since there is little point in lugging around a dual screen device if the only advantage is playing DS games.

Also, the displays on these devices account for a significant portion of the price, a portion which will be doubled. So, in addition to a higher end SoC, it would also need two displays, a battery big enough to power everything, and somehow configured it into a sturdy and ergonomic package through the brilliance of Chinese engineering. Another thing to consider is that such a device would represent a level of innovation in the handheld emulation device market that we typically don't see out of China as the technology would be different enough from the DS/3DS that they can't just copy the designs like they normally do.

Since two screens would drive up the cost and be a QC nightmare, and they'd likely fuck up the hinges and/or ergonomics, the best option for DS/3DS emulation for the foreseeable future will likely be a phone sitting in one of those clip on controllers in portrait orientation. A 3DS already has something similar to replicate 3D. This isn't new or nitch or even expensive tech to reproduce. The DS slider can even be used to adjust the filter so the amount of display could be altered as well as the angle.

They already mass produced them. Just a matter of time, acquisition of screens, and creative application of the 2 displays through 1 screen theory.
