>play random NES/Gameboy game
>it's fairly easy
>also like 15 minutes long
>get to the final stage/boss
>all of a sudden insane difficulty spike, instakill attacks, mazelike levels and trial and error gameplay requiring dozens of tries and game overs to beat

They really had no shame back then about artificially extending playtime at the last moment with retarded difficulty curve, uh?

He's easy with the Cross. Why aren't you playing the GBC version?

Let me guess, it's artificial difficulty and the devs didn't know better and they were fucking with the player on purpose because rentals and they didn't have testers and the game aged terribly and has bad design ?

Either pic related or go find another group to belong to because "retro gamers" isn't for you

>muh artificial difficulty
You almost had a decent post there and then you must have had a stroke and become retarded. Your brain is mush. Stop using hackneyed buzzwords in your writing.

I tried these games, they were kind of meh compared to the console ones. I guess it's fine for somebody who has never played them before though

The thing about this game and Mario Land 2 is that you can visit the worlds in whatever order you like, so the difficulty curve is pretty flat for most of the game. The dramatic spike at the end is because you've done everything else beforehand. It's still pretty jarring, but I understand why it's like that.

It's not just that, that Dracula fight is pretty shitty because you have to memorize all the spots where his fireballs won't hit you depending on his position. It takes a lot of trial and error.

>He's easy with the Cross.
People who say this always mystify me. While it's true that the Cross makes him easier, the hard part about the fight isn't dealing damage, it's not taking damage. Like, it's the fireball patterns that make him hard and coming in with a different subweapon doesn't change that. And once you've got the patterns memorized, you can beat him with no subweapon at all. So it's not like the Cross is the difference maker between easy fight and hard fight. It just makes the kill faster after you already know the patterns.
