What are the options for good alternative Dreamcast controllers that won't cost you an arm and a leg?

There are some shitty third party ones you can buy that are still likely a bargain.

The D-Pad is extremely fucking loose, it definitely isn't for everyone. /vr/ told me not to get one but I'm really glad I did, even if I overpaid (still better than the >$200 I'd have to spend for a Saturn/etc. DC adapter without input lag)

I use this thing, the Brook Wingman SD. It also works with Saturn but I don't own a Saturn. Zero issues with it so far, I can pair whatever controller I want without a hassle and it feels very low lag. Porkchop Express who does all the testing for Mister controllers says they're very low latency and I believe it. You can also plug shit in through USB, I've played Typing of the Dead that way with a wireless keyboard and receiver. Best part is it has 200 VMU blocks and you can manage and backup save files onto your PC. Supposedly you can remap your bluetooth controllers via a web app but I've never done that. I really like it, I also bought their new PS2 one but haven't tried it yet.

I think some of their older adapters had some issues but I've really enjoyed using this guy. If you play DC a lot and aren't a fan of the controller then I highly recommend it.

Use genesis, Saturn, GameCube, playstation if you've got an Arduino blue or blackpill board and electronics experience

Adapters can give you the benefit of your favorite controllers on the Dreamcast for a low price.
