Also try WTF - Work Time Fun! for PSP, it's something akin to Mario Party, except with a wacky Japanese TV game show flair to it. Perfect time killer when you're commuting or something.

If you want wacky, try Kendo Rage and Incredible Crisis.
As for anime, Sailor Moon arcade and the SNES RPG are alright.
And if you want Japanese autism, the game, try How Many Robots 2 on PC-98, a game where you use programable robots to build the highest tower. It's structural engineering + logistics + C programming.

In that case just download a TurboGrafx-16/CD rom set and have fun I guess. PS1 and Saturn also have plenty of JP-only shmups and puzzlers.

OP you can literally just download Japanese romsets for most of the consoles. Super Famicom has some good stuff if you want something quick and easy. Can also just go to romhacking.net or other sites for translation patches

If you like Virtual On play Bulk Slash, it just got a really good English patch with a dub a few months ago. There's thousands of Japanese games though. Maybe try MSX or PC-98 if you're up for emulating them, or just ask /jp/ (going to be mostly Touhou games there though)

Peak "weird japan", lots of gag humor and tight actions required to progress. It's definitely good for a laugh although the "ddr" sections are pretty shitty they're easy and over with quickly.

Play some Konami games OP. They have Parodius, Twinbee, Ganbare Goemon, and a bunch of other fun Japanese stuff. Plenty of other Japanese devs but Konami is a good place to start if you like fun JP-only titles. After that you can move onto stuff by Falcom, Natsume, Taito, Compile, Success, etc.

If you like licensed games maybe try a Sailor Moon game or one of the Macross titles or something. Most animes back in the day had games. Yu-Gi-Oh, Slayers, DBZ, Astro Boy, etc. Supposedly even the Hamtaro game on GBC is good. Also anything Sanrio-related especially if you have female friends
