Posted this in last thread. Got a Sony BVM D201FU that I had in the garage, tried to power it on and now it's not giving a Power/Standby light. The light on the Power board is on, I checked the test points on it, it has +15V -15V and 8/5V fine. The fan on the expansion card powers on too, not really sure where the power is stopping.

It doesn't even degaus when powering on. It's such a fucking pain to take apart though.

Unsure if the power board isnt giving ENOUGH power or if there's a fuse or breaker somewhere after the power board, because it's definitely giving voltage to the expansion cards but not the tube and control panel.

When I say power on here I mean flipping the switch in the back, I actually cant power it on because the control panel doesnt power it on and doesnt give a standby light.

Searching on the net I can only find one dude with a power issue and he got a standby light

Thanks. I actually do have an infrared tool. I have an Agilent U5855A. Problem is it's so fucking hard to see anything the way this CRT is framed.

I was looking at the block diagram in the service manual last night and it looks like the control unit that shows the standby light and controls the power button gets its power from the deflection board. I've verified that there's +5v/+15/+130V all coming from the power board, so I'm guessing there's something wrong in the deflecftion board. Will begin trying to probe and look it over today.

I finally plugged in my ViewSonic P815 21" CRT Monitor with USB Hub that I bought last year from an e-waste facility here in Australia. It even has RGB BNC inputs. It says on the back sticker that it was made in Japan in March 2000. I took the back cover off and it looks like it was actually made by Panasonic rather than ViewSonic. Yes, they are the same BNC connectors found on PVMs, but notice how there are separate terminals for H and V sync. >KV-25C5A
Good TV. I think it's the same as my KV-25X5K, they share the tube and chassis. Specs are identical, too, apart from the fact that the A is an Italian model.
What area are you in? I'm looking for someone good near Kraków just to have a backup in case one of my CRTs fails and I'm unable to repair it myself. I've repaired some amplifiers, CD players, etc. in the past, but never worked on a CRT. I'm willing to try if mine ever shits the bed though. Do share if you find someone good at repair/calibration.
Here's the service manual, it has the focus and convergence adjustment procedure explained in detail if you ever want to try to do it yourself: http://freeservicemanuals.info/en/servicemanuals/viewmanual/Sony/KV25C5A/KV25C5B/KV25C5D/KV25C5E/

By the way, I don't have an SD2SNES, but if the space below the interface should be black, then it's not on your TV, you're getting gray scanlines. I don't know what mode you are using, but the sport and movie presets are kinda bad (both are too bright, the sport mode also has terrible colors). For the best picture, go to manual mode and adjust your brightness and contrast. Do this in a dark room.
Put up a brightness/color ramp pattern, turn the brightness all the way down and go up until you stop getting black crush. You might have to give up some shadow detail for perfect blacks or the other way around, it's up to you. 3-5 clicks from the bottom should be OK. Then adjust the contrast so all the levels are distinguishable, bright enough and not getting blown out to white.
Don't worry if the picture seems dark after the adjustment, you'll get used to it. Unless you play in a really bright room, then you'll probably have to compromise by turning the contrast up a bit.

Long story short, using a CRT regularly for the first time since I was young, I'm surprised at all the details and quirks regarding CRTs I never knew about. Never knew about overscan, the difference between composite and component, geometry, all that. It's strange to me, I never ever noticed how so many games had black bars on the top or bottom of the screen during normal play. Like Crash Bandicoot and Xenogears on the original playstation. Just a big black bar on the top as if your television isn't calibrated correctly, when in fact it is. If you 'fix' the screen position for those aforementioned games, you break every other game for every other console. Maybe I had massive monster overscan on my old televisions as a kid.
Can anyone tell what TV is being used in this photo that was taken in 2010? I don't remember what it was.

>>9926956

I have a 27" Sony Trinitron ProFeel for all my retro gaming that is apparently from 1989 but still works beautifully, but I also have a 14" Sony Trinitron PVM in my wardrobe as future back-up that was made in 2002. Doesn’t this have an insane fixed scan rate of like 720p 66Hz

I would be worried that it won’t look right without the original video card, plus it seems very restrictive. What are you going to use it for?
