Maybe it really was just a made up machine. Even if the movie was low budget, the props warehouse probably has piles of cabinets with imaginary game art.

It looks like a spaceship leaving a city, but it's not Defender, and it's not Xaxxon. If it's real, my memory isn't encyclopedic enough to remember this.

that white border reminds a bit of the Sega Space Invader clones 'Space Attack' and 'Triple Attack'. It's not any of those though, unless there's alternative artwork I've missed, and maybe it was a common layout.

Not OP, but it's 1 hour and 15 minutes into the movie. And the shot is moving while focusing on Sarah and Kyle, so it's blurry for every bit except pic related, right before the machine leaves the screen altogether.

>> No.9899352

For anyone asking for the timestamp, it's at 1h15min. Looking at it a few times, it doesn't look like an arcade machine, actually. They pass in front of it but you can't see any buttons or even a screen.
Also, only the right half is the "cabinet". The part to the left of the black line is a glass partition mirroring the cabinet.

The context of the scene is that they're coming into an hotel, and the thing Kyle's holding is a bundle of dollar notes. It doesn't make sense for an arcade machine to be outside.

No luck. I've looked through all 6000+ images from the MAME archive, and there's no side art that looks exactly like that. There's a few that look mostly like it, but no exact match. Some of them have two versions, so probably we're looking at an alternate side art.

Here are the ones I've found that look most like it:
Major Havoc (one of the two versions)
Mars
Pleiades
Polaris
Solar Quest
Orbit
Time Pilot
Time Pilot 84
Star Castle

Star Castle has mostly the same colors (orange/red on top, blue at the middle), but no ships.

I have also looked at a ton. Also this is the sharpest I've been able to get the original image. The design looks Japanese anime inspired and given this was California there's a chance it was an import cabinet since it doesn't match any of the officially released games from Japan from that time. Though it does seem to have some john berkey vibes as well so that's not certain. My guess is either way it's something from the late 70's or early 80's which is why it was in a crappy motel in '84.

Problem is, though I've found many pics of western arcades from that time, pictures of Japanese and the former have been exhausted.

Went back to the earliest google street view of the Tiki Motel, and the machine was no longer visible by 2007. Probably broke down long before then. So unless someone can find a match to the artwork, as blurry as it's visible even on the HD release, the only other way to figure out what game this is would be to find someone who remembers staying at this cheap-ass motel in the ghetto back in 1984 AND who actually looked at and remembered the arcade game in the office. And most of the people to stay at crappy motels like this tend to not remember the motels after leaving unless it was really memorably bad.

Isn't everything that exists kind of here because of that, so we're told anyway? But anyway, I fail to see how there's any needed chain of coincidences since it's not about coincidence per se, it's just an unidentified game in a very identified film making it soaked with irony. This seems very likely given the boarder width and shape. In all the searching I've found tons of old arcade cabinets that had different art than was typical. It's likely just Galaga or Asteroids or something in a funky cabinet the motel owner found somewhere. It seems highly unlikely it's a prop given how incidental it is in the scene.

This checks out. Just about every side-art they have I can find online matches the style of the cabinet seen. Also makes a great deal of sense that a low-rent ghetto motel would have a late 70's bootleg cabinet instead of a recent official cabinet. Hell, the control panel art for Mars looks almost like it could be a game from the same series.

Like every other term of art it got co-opted. Technically "incel" was politically neutral terminology explaining a phenomenon where larger numbers of men fall into that category than previous generations. There were explanations ranging from economics (probably the actual cause more than any other) to social changes like dating app culture. But now it's pretty much impossible to call someone or yourself an incel without there being a nefarious undertone.

I see it more as internet cultures becoming echo chsmbers and starting to fester in ways, and it happened with many things in that time. For one thing, I question the sudden rise that incel culture now talks about. I was probably who would have labeled themselves an incel at one point if the term was around. A kissless virgin till 24 who was friends with many girls who were always interested in dating other guys etc. People like me weren't ever all that uncommon, but being born in '74 by the time a culture around it formed I'd long since grown up. If there was an active culture as there us now, it may have been something that sucked me in. But instead I saw myself as clearly needing to work on things about myself. Similarly, the guy in our creative writing class who mostly wrote overly cutsey Balto fanfiction. He went on to be fairly well adjusted, but could have been different in today's age. At any rate, from the first time I heard incel being used I always assumed a negative connotation, but maybe that's me.

I left voluntarily, yes, but I still enjoy having my cock sucked and would rather have women do it instead of rubbing one out watching porn every morning. I left because the game were not worth the hassle, the drama, the silly attention demands while avoiding to do anythign demanded of her, the risk of pregnancy, etc. Since today I have money and better maturity, I'd say if I'm back to the game I'd have a woman in my bed voluntarily in a week tops.
