Threads of Fate thread, please!

Can we just talk about how amazing and under appreciated this gem of a title is? It was released at the wrong time being pushed into the shadows because of Final Fantasy hype at the time. I would want noting more than an remake or sequel.

On a side note, I really miss Square.

What on earth is that?

Oh. Well, still nice to know that people care about this IP. I swear there was a poll a couple of years ago that had Dewprism (threads of fate) in #2 for most wanted sequel. I guess nothing ever came of it though. Such a shame.

Does anyone else totally dig the soundtrack? It comes off basic-like, but there I feel there is so much charm attached.

Who did everyone prefer to play as?

I love both characters, but I always more fun playing as Rue. The ability to switch into different animals, with up to four at a time, felt so fresh when I first played this game. I also really liked Rue's story. It had a lot of emotion attached and I'm a sucker for those types of stories.

Same here. I personally feel sorry for him the same way I feel for Vivi in FFIX.

So that's where they got that idiot's weapon in FFTA2 from.

But where did THAT one come from?

>> No.988763

>>988750

Oh, a character from FFTA2 actually has the same type of sword as rue. That's pretty fucking sweet. I adore his obscure and unusual weapon.

Can someone describe the game play to me? I always thought this game looked neat, just never got around to buying it.

>> No.989220

I've only played through it once, as Mint.

I loved it, I guess it's pretty simple overall but there was a lot of charm to it. I love how Mint wasn't your usual sword swinging main character either, and at least her storyline had a lot of humor to it.

>>989175
Well I don't know, it's been a while since I played it. It's your usual action RPG, and pretty similar to the Ys games I guess.

>> No.989226

I recently experienced this game for the first time. I forgot the name of a game I used to play as a kid for the PSX [That I don't know the name of/the story. I only remember a vague plot], and assumed this was it, downloaded it and blasted through.

>> No.989239

I never knew there was a final ending when I was younger, so I just beat the game with both characters and never got to the final ending.

>> No.989250

This was one of those games I saw as a kid and was like "holy balls this looks sweet" but never actually bought. I can't get it to emulate properly either.

>> No.989372

I never really cared for it. I got it off PSN a couple years ago but honestly it's pretty slow paced and both stories are too similar, so after you've played one the other is really repetitive. I liked Mint's personality, but Rue was just straight boring and too serious. Controls were pretty rigid too, but it was still PSX so it's understandable. I'd at least rent a sequel if one came out to see if it improved.

Action RPG, with emphasis on the action (even has platformer elements, so completing the game is nigh impossible if your controller isn't calibrated correctly or if latency decides to come say hello.

The storyline revolves around two maincharacters, and it's pretty good for it's day. Overall, it's well worth a playthrough.

>> No.991315

I saw it as a kid, a family friend was playing around the time you meet Fancy Mel. For years I remembered it and never could figure out the name. I came across it one night, downloaded it, and rocked back and forth like an excited autist. I still haven't beaten it. Even worse, I'm at the end, was at the end and had to turn it off.

>>989250
I can't say I've had a single emulator get past the opening for Rue, aside from ePSXe 1.8.0 (though, I may not have tried Mednafen or the SVN PCSX-R). Never went to try Mint's side, since she seems like a secondary...

>>989372
Parallel stories are like that.

>> No.991874

>>991315

Well, if you've played only Mint's story you'd probably say the same about Rue's being secondary. Stories are not parallel. The only part where they complement one another is character's pasts. Whatever happens next is up to story. You don't save Claire as Mint though Mint trashed Doll Maker and Valen; Mint helps Rue overcome his desire to quit in her story; etc.

STOP CALLING IT PINTO
IT IS PULSAR INFERNO TYPHOON OMEGA

>> No.991892

We will never get our sequel with the blue striped hat wearing doll boy from the secret ending. Duke was one of my favorite characters aside from Mint and Rue. Duke, Rod, and the ditsy girl's mother who was implied to have been the world's greatest swordsman.

>> No.992625

>>991874
Fair on that. I wasn't saying either one was more important, though. Sorry if it came across that way.

As for being parallel, that isn't the right word, but they run the same series of events, and the paths don't diverge much. Not a clear way to say it.
