Hello /vr/. I never played the Super Mario games. That said. should I play the Original versions or the All Stars versions? Any difference between them?

1 play the NES if you can. Something about the All-Stars version feels off. The jumping is a bit different plus hearing the original 8-bit sound feels more natural to me (bias opinion i know).
2 I feel you can play whichever you like. They both play the same (in my opinion). And it plays just great.
3 People will hate me for saying it but I can never play 3 on the NES ever again. Last time I beat it was a few years back when my roommate and I thought of 100% the game. Beating every stage no matter what. It was fun but it reminded me how much it would suck if something happened right then and there. So playing a version that lets you save is an added feature I'm 100% for.

To be fair it didn't get an enhanced port of the All Stars version like the others did and instead was just a cheap port of the original, nothing added. I always thought it was odd that it was left out in that regard. SMB2J was left out as well (though again like SMB it had a Classic Famicom Series release, Japan only if I recall right).

Personally I had all the GBA rereleases except Yoshi's Island and didn't find them too bad. SMB2 was probably the most annoying with 3 and World being real non-issues in the voice department. I did think World's colors looked a little washed out though and sound was obviously off. Still, not terrible.

Anyways, as for the OP, coming from someone who grew up with the NES originals first, I'd say play whichever version you like. I honestly never noticed All Star's physics being off, that's news to me. They're great games regardless, enjoy them.

SMB2 and SMB3 are better on the SNES. All Stars really improves SMB3 since it lets you save so you can actually play through the whole game at your own leisure. SMB2 is better just for the graphics and saving potential as well. Just make sure to play the NES version of SMB1 cause the jump physics for all stars is terrible.

Even though Super Mario Brothers is the first game I've ever played, I'd never made an effort to actually beat it until now. I was cruising through it with minimal problems until fucking 8-2. The jump in difficulty from World 7 to World 8 is immense. I've been stuck on 8-2 for two hours. Luckily 8-1 is easy, but the problem I can not for the life of me find a reliable way to get past the pictured section of 8-2, and I know I've 2 other levels after this that are both probably even harder than this one. Is there a mushroom stuffed somewhere that I'm missing or what?

IIRC the koopas skip a block each time they hop down, so pay attention which block they are on and then get on the one below it; they'll jump right over you. I think you can just jump on top of the first koopa and then dodge the second one using the method I gave.

Not a big deal.

You're sacrificing saving for the classic graphics going NES, but you can always use warp zones or whistles to get back to the world you were on.

>> No.997568

>>997560
Let me clarify I'm referring to the individual ones latter. There's the sets of them standing on rows of blocks, and then after that there are several in a row that are just standing on the ground that you have to get past. For the ones on the blocks just try to run under them of over the top row depending upon where the hammer bros are. For the rest try jumping over them if you can.
