I used to get a banshee from the car dealership, take it to 8 balls to get a remote bomb set in it, then drive it to the top of St.Marks.
I would then make sure thieves were around and park it near them and arm the bomb. The guys in the blue and white camo pants would go for it almost every time.
They would get in, drive about 1.5 seconds and boom! I don’t know why, but this was always strangely satisfying.

Played this again a year or so ago when I soft-modded my PS2. I always used to go back to VC and thought I wouldn't enjoy GTA3 as much but damn it was still such a fun game to play alongside VC and SA. The atmosphere really is strong in its own way that I didn't appreciate at the time, because it really feels like early 2000s.
I'd probably still say VC is my favourite of the 3, but GTA3 is a lot of fun on its own merits and has some cool stuff.

I used to spend a lot of time attempting this super jump glitch that I can never find any mention of anywhere now. You took a Cheetah up on the elevated train tracks, and if you get the right spot and position, the train would blast the car across the map, sometimes to the 2nd or 3rd island, and often on to inaccessible areas and rooftops.

It was a pain in the ass to do because you had to drive the car up the stairs to the tracks, wait for the train to pass before getting into position, and then waiting and hoping it hits you just right. Most of the time it was a bad launch, but some times you would see some insane shit.

Something I always found funny is how unnecessary the ghost town is. In the intro they were robbing the Liberty City Bank, there's absolutely no reason why the Liberty City Bank should be outside of Liberty City. >Best mission?
I couldn't really decide on one. I feel the last mission would be too obvious, so I'd probably say Kanbu Bust-out because I thought that the thing about blowing a wall in the police station was pretty original. I know that you already blow the Yakuza thing when you're still in Portland, but I think this mission did it better.
>Worst mission?
Worst as in hardest, it was either A Drop in the Ocean or S.A.M., they were kind of similar, I remember one of them feeling impossible to complete with all the police chasing you, but it was pretty fun anyway.
Worst as in most annoying, Espresso-2-Go. I don't know if it was the longest mission, but having to drive around the entire map twice made it way too long.

None of the other GTA games give me the adrenaline rush that GTA 3 does. No idea how to explain it but I can feel the police sirens in the pit of my stomach at high wanted levels. They kamikaze into you at insane speeds, acceleration is nuts in this game. Also the visuals of the game remind me a lot of the film Payback with Mel Gibson from a year or two prior mixed with The Matrix. When it rains on the PS2 it has a greenish tint to my eyes, and the outfit Claude wears wouldn't be out of place in that universe. Claude doesn't get enough credit for having that literally me self insert appeal. The hot insane Latina ex gf, the banshee, Maria and Asuka scissoring, all of it is still so cool to me. Speaking of Asuka, if she was the protagonist in Liberty City Stories, Hitler would've won. No, I will not elaborate.

See what happened was that prior to GTA III kicking off the open world sandbox trend and paving the way for more movie like narratives in games, JRPGs were the best way to get story and exploration in a game. They also boasted the highest completion times which made for good value on purchase. WRPGs were stuck on PC and kind of cumbersome, and everything else on consoles was more geared towards an arcade experience. Then GTA III comes along with an action game that offers story, freedom of exploration, and bang for your buck in terms of length. After that, JRPGs' days were numbered.

the 6th gen was ultimately the jack of all trades and master of none. the 5th gen did JRPGs and platformers better and the 7th gen did FPS, open world, and hack n slash better.

The Mobile releases were decent for their time.
GTA 3 got the XBOX models and some new textures, VC got the XBOX hands and vehicles without wheels, but removed the music, San Andreas was the worst, most details are removed, music is removed because Rockstar are hacks, and there is a bug that makes the models look broken, and became the base for the worst San Andreas release of all time.

Just drive directly to the destination after triggering the van to start moving. Then enemies won't load near the van except in the final stretch, where you have ample time to clean things up.

I didn't mind it too much, the lock on worked surprisingly well for the amount of shooting you actualyl need to do.
It was mostly the later mission where people have M16s and can waste you in literal seconds that you need to abuse the game like creeping up until you can see their head around an obstacle etc.

>> No.9914765

I'm playing Liberty City Stories and enjoying it so far. I saw there was a 'Trash Dash' side mission and gave it a shot. It was kind of tough but got it after about 3 attempts, thinking I'd get some cool reward for it, but it was just $20K money. LAME.
I also don't know how the Used Car Dealer works, I only got to level 3 before a car got trashed.

I only played briefly the PS2 version, I remember Bomb Da Base being impossible for me since I was used to the PC version.
When I played LCS and I was forced to use a controller, in the "equivalent" mission where you're supposed to use the sniper rifle was Love & Bullets, I simply used lock-on instead. Going by the first result when looking for a walkthrough of the mission, it seems to be the preferred way to beat the mission.

The yellow HUD would be part of the PC assets as I said. Not sure about the animation data, whether that's a PC asset that was dropped in or however that works.

>Thankfully, the code for GTA 3 on PS2 and Android includes debug symbols. Debug symbols contain all the extra information needed to debug a game during the development process, but are often stripped out for release executables to avoid bloat. For whatever reason, Rockstar left these symbols in, giving the reverse-engineering team a huge leg-up.

Most fixes, if not all of them, are already implemented in RE3. The installation is a simple copy-paste thing overwritting anything it tells you.

However, I've only played vanilla without mods, so there's that.
