Honestly if you don't mind the d-pad placement, aspect ratio, and don't need something "pocketable" I'd say this completely and utterly BTFOs the 353 devices aside from the 503 and m. Of course I'm just going off of specs and video footage, maybe the tradeoff is it explodes in your hands after a week of usage.

I don't know how I didn't realize that, but you're right. Same position on my Vitas and I never even thought about it there. I guess the issue with the placement on the Odin is due to the shape and size difference.

I blame the faggot that was complaining the unfinished plastic grey didn't look like the metal grey render. Really bizarre expectation to have if you're ordering plastic but w/e. The finished plastic grey looked really good imo, but I think that comment spooked Nil into worrying about people giving him shit for their plastic device not looking metal. I feel bad for everyone that wanted a darker or more muted color since Nil suddenly decided he hates blacks kek.

Do you think you're actually going to change? Or just wait until batch 2?

This is just my gay faggot opinion, but I'd keep the Flip since it's the only one that can do Saturn and Dreamcast well. I really like the 353m, but if you're really attached to the hardware emulation or screen of the Analogue, I'd sell the 353m. Otherwise I'd sell the Analogue.

I got JELOS re-installed to my RG353P after UnofficialOS was too fucking slow to boot.

JELOS defaults to the Retroarch hotkey being Select (8) every time I relaunch it, I want it to be the function key (10) since that's the whole point of that key.
After changing "Hotkey Enable" to 10, I've tried stuff like saving the global configuration file from Main Menu, but it's not sticking.
Might it be that the emulation station frontend is forcing the hotkey to reset every time it loads Retroarch?

This previously worked on UnofficialOS and it's annoying.

Managed to find my answer.
Under the frontend's system settings, you need to disable a "autoconfigure retroarch hotkeys" option.
Being able to configure those hotkeys from the frontend would be nice.

Testing out this firmware though, the boot time is far better and it seems like the sleep bug is finally fixed, not certain yet though.

I also saw that Anbernic is releasing a refresh of the RG353P very soon, the RG353PS? I'll need to check that out, but it seems to be a weaker spec and cheaper price to reflect that.

from my recollection it drops being able to dual boot into Android and also ditches the touch screen(since the Linux side can't make use of it for some reason)

>> No.9883806

The RG353PS is a budget version of the P. No touchscreen, no android, 1GB of RAM. Still the same chip and form factor for a more affordable price. Its direct competitor would be the Powkiddy X55 which is similar in price, but with 2GB of RAM and a big screen (however the form factor is different and I'm not sure about build quality, but I have an RG351P and it's not like Anbernic gives me a reason to choose their products based on build quality).

OP here, i got the RG35xx and it's fun and surely a great buy for a first handheld, but i want something slightly larger. As the RG405 has the stick on the top i was looking at the RG505. Is there any reason not to get it? Price would be 160€.

>> No.9883880

>>9883851
personally I'd recommend the RG353P(though everything I say more or less applies to the other 353 series devices* as the internal specs are basically the same across all of them), being able to dual boot between Linux and Android is very handy in my opinion(Android has better performance for Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, and PSP and can take advantage of the RG353P's touch screen for DS usage, while Linux has the advantage of the various Custom Firmwares made for it like JELOS that mean less tinkering around to get right into playing the systems that don't need the extra power or touch screen support Android has) and while it's a bit less powerful then the RG505 I think it has more than enough for the price

also while not probably the most important thing but I do think it's worth bringing up that the 505 doesn't have video out capability while the 353 family of devices do(through a Mini-HDMI port) as that adds a good bit of extra versatility to the devices

*aside from the 353VS and 353PS both dropping Android support and the touch screen(and also less RAM) so that both can be a fair bit cheaper than their full featured predecessors the 353V and 353P

Having multiple handhelds is hell. I own:
>a hacked psp
>a hacked vita 2000
>a hacked n2ds
>a hacked Switch
>a RG353p

I like them all and they all excel at something but part of me just wishes to have a handheld that can do everything while still being comfy to use. They all have to have at least one flaw.

>a hacked psp
It's old and can't properly emulate SNES and GBA.

>a hacked vita 2000
Somehow it STILL can't properly emulate SNES and GBA. SNES lags slightly behind. Noticeable if you're used to the music of the games you play and play them back to back while on youtube or other console.

>a hacked n2ds
Screen fucking sucks and it's pretty uncomfortable to hold. PS1 sucks.

>a hacked Switch
Too big to be a handheld. Can't emulate PS1 properly but somehow it's good for Saturn.

>a RG353p
Can't emulate Saturn and Dreamcast properly but at least it does the worthwhile games well. Screen isn't the best for GBA and Wonderswan.

It's just sad that hackers aren't interested in improving the Vita's GBA and SNES emulation capacities, it'd be the perfect handheld retro emulator.

Whilst it's not as ideal as the RG351P's unique 480x320 screen, you can still get a reasonably good picture by using the "Interpolation / Sharp-Bilinear-2x-Prescale" filter.
Although a 3x-prescale would be slightly better, bilinear downscaling 720 width down to 640 looks better than upscaling 480 width up to 640.

Honestly, Nil should have kept his review ban, not send any WIP units, stop overpromising stuff and keep focusing on his own things instead of catering to idiots over his Discord. I think it was a bad idea to allow reviews of an unfinished product that might not represent the final one.

Will that thing already have the games pre-loaded in Enlish? Do I need to be able to take the SD card out to load more ROMs?

I suggested that because the sale is pretty good and the shipping is fast&free within Europe. Hope they don't make you pay extra cash for importing fees, though.

But yeah, AliExpress is generally a good place to buy for chink consoles from anywhere. Again, you only want to play up to N64/Dreamcast/DS?

>Will that thing already have the games pre-loaded in English?
The one I linked? Doubt it; you add whatever you want to play. It's pretty easy though.

>Do I need to be able to take the SD card out to load more ROMs?
Yeah, you take the microSD out or connect the machine to your PC with an USB-C.

>A $30 one would be more in my Christmas budget.
Try checking the ones at >>9887784 ? $30 is pretty low budget though, don't think you could even properly use Snes9x with that.

FC3000 is decent in that budget. V90 too if you're willing to spend a little bit more, although setup is a bit more of a pain since CFW is basically mandatory on that. Neither are going to play near as many games as the more expensive handhelds, but they're ok for a few systems.

Q90 and Q20 mini have the same parts as a V90 in a different shell, so those might be worth checking out too.

I haven't heard a lot of people talk about how good the FC3000 controller is, and it's kinda limited in what systems it'll run, but might be worth a shot. Build quality seems pretty good for what it is though compared to a lot of the other super cheap devices.

Worth mentioning since you talked about playing together that a lot of these, especially the cheap ones, don't really have netplay, although some have HDMI out and support Bluetooth controllers.

Emulators and some ROMs are usually already on each handheld. You're better off throwing a set of the ROMs that you actually want on them though. For a lot of these, there's custom firmware that you'd want to install for more emulators and better performance too, but that's generally a pretty easy process.

Let's see:
-More adequate screens for these games, since most phones nowadays are ultrawide (phone screens only good for DS games horizontally, since vertically you have to deal with bluetooth controllers)
-An unified frontend where nothing gets in the way and all emulators are in the same place without much of a setup (you can even change settings from this frontend)
-Separate device so there's no need to worry about the battery on your phone
-No need to put your phone into a clip or inside a telescopic controller everytime you want to play something or take it out after
-Not top heavy and uncomfortable like using phone clips
-Often handhelds are designed with the correct layout and buttons for retro games instead of focusing on mobile gaming with better analogs but a crappy dpad seen in your average telescopic controller

>More adequate screens for these games
If you have an OLED screen then the blacks just look like part of the bezel so it always looks like the correct aspect ratio, especially at nighttime. My phone can also scale SNES games (which are 256x224) without looking like arse, which can be taken a step further if you apply a CRT shader afterwards; when a Chinkboy hasn't the pixel real estate to accomplish proper scaling nor shaders, I'd argue that my phone's screen is much more adequate for playing retro games.
>An unified frontend
If I should ignore that your argument is automatically invalid by virtue of being ESL, then I put forth, good sir, that it takes 1 second to click on Retroarch
>no need to worry about the battery on your phone
The Chinkboy itself has a battery and a much smaller one than your phone's anyway

Retroarch has a very shitty frontend by itself and half the good emulators on android are standalone with their own quirks. There's a reason why that's not what chinkhelds use as a frontend, even when all the platforms cheaper handhelds run are basically platforms with cores in RA.
>The Chinkboy itself has a battery and a much smaller one than your phone's anyway
And when the chinkboy battery dies, the phone one still works, it's amazing
>Then buy a controller that works for you
There's no telescopic controller with an adequate dpad in the right place to begin with and again, the clip thing really sucks some dick. I have one for my Pro 2, very adjustable. It's even plugged in wired with a very small usb-c to usb-c cable for convenience, and yet I'd rather pick my RG351P for games which is vastly inferior in terms of performance to my current phone.

I never eat mine, so I don't know if they'll poison your kids. The blocks mostly work great though. Sometimes they even still say LEGO on them... but sometimes the tops are flat.

The bagging is different too -- official big LEGO kits say what bag stuff is in... but the Ali-Express kits are a little more of a guess of where to find things. But still... you're talking a quarter of the price. When I got my Voltron it was $45. Compare that to over $200 in the U.S. (which is now over $500 since it's discontinued).

Want an awesome set though? Get one of these books. They never made them in the US due to licensing costs. There are Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman, Storm Troopers, Avengers... and Kobe Bryant. Each with 52 figures.

I have 3 Anbernics in my cart.
-RG353m (cheapest, and looks like it'll play everything I want... but 3.5 inch screen).
-RG505 (4.95 inch screen holy crap).

MM+ has a longer battery life and better D-pad.
35XX is easier to find and more comfortable to hold. Recently they managed to unlock the GPU and it can emulate beyond the PS1 a little but havent checked the progress on that.

Otherwise they're both mostly the same devices.

Wrong.
My RG35XX white transparent with white PCB is beautiful and even after already owning one I want the gray version because the color scheme looks so good with the buttons.
The RG35XX is just to perfect.

It's a hardware feature, you can't add hardware features later.
You can only set the time with the Miyoo if you have network connection (which quickly drains your battery).
I would go with the RG35XX because it has an active community of developers and hasn't reached it's full potential yet.

yeah I know, just being autistic. There actually was a phone with a 960p screen, but it's too large at 5.2". Plus it came out nearly 10 years ago now, which ironically is probably TOO old for chinkhelds to have access to any leftover stock at this point.

As far as displays that actually exist in handhelds, I love the sound of the one in the KT-R1.
