I loved Yoshi when I was a kid but I was really upset that the gays claimed ownership of him. They really went all out too, I remember IGN publishing an entire article about Yoshi supposedly being gay and how he makes such a great mascot for the gays. It really put a sour taste in my mouth. I feel like they stole my favorite character from me.

Similarly, I also really really liked the Pokemon Sylveon and it became an instant-favorite when it was revealed. I got one when I played XY and it was one of the best Pokemon in my team. I also really liked how it's design fit in with the French theme of the region it's from. And then a few years later when trans started to become popular the gays claimed Sylveon as a trans mascot because the colors are the same as a trans flag.

So now the gays have stolen two of my favorite video game characters right out from under me. You might be thinking this is a copypaste or something but I am legitimately disappointed.

One of the few redeeming qualities of the Mario franchise.

Yoshi's kinda like the Dinosaur Land equivalent of Toad; there's a whole multicolored race of them, and then there's the main/generic one. Sometimes these concepts intersect (Super Mario RPG, Mario Movie etc) but most of the time whether it's one or multiple depends on the games' whims.

Being based on Popeye, I can't be hard on Mario for doing this. In Popeye cartoons one day he'd be in then-modern day 1930s fighting Bluto, then the next day in the ancient middle east fighting Alibaba or Sinbad. The mission statement of the game ended up being emphasizing exotic lands to travel to by contrasting lots of NPCs with Mario's usual aesthetics.
