it doesn't count because if I allowed them, every single post would be the same, and the tread would be pointless. you can easily google a list of best games for GBA and get EXACTLY the same games repeated over and over. hearing it for a 100th won't benefit anyone, and it's too easy to name it anyway.
it's much more challenging and interesting to name games beyond that. we'll also see who actually knows their shit here.

I get it anon, you like Pokemon Emerald, but so does everyone in this thread. you'd have this game in every single post. what would you even learn from that? I could as well ask to name 4 games instead of 5.
about anyone who owned GBA knows about Pokemon Emerald. it's one of the best selling games on the console, everyone and their mom owned it. this is like asking for NES recs and everyone posts SMB3. or asking for N64 recs and people rec Ocarina of Time. it's not even funny, it's just pointless.

Yu-Gi-Oh! - Worldwide Edition - Stairway to the Destined Duel (USA)
Yu-Gi-Oh! - WC2006
Harry Potter (GBC)
Looney Tunes (the platformer)
>
Looney Tunes is actually a FUN platformer and I got all the secret routes, probably the obscure title one'd expect to find. I don't know who treasure is. I almost got 2005 mixed with 2006, but 2006 is the ludo.

>> No.9865487

>>9865416
>wow, even if there are good titles left, you really went all-out. even snes thread left a few popular titles.
maybe it's a tad too much, but I'd only allow 1-2 more titles. I grew up in that era, so I knew all of the popular GBA games, and I've grown kind of sick of hearing about the same shit over and over for nearly 20 years.
moreover, a few of the series retroactively surged in popularity, like Fire Emblem or Mother 3. some games felt less popular, like Wario Land 4, but then again, almost everyone has been shilling it on this board, and it was an early game and was seemingly everywhere.
I still left out a ton of games though:
>2 Kirby games
>all Sonic games
>Mario Kart
>F-Zero games
>Ninja 5-o
>Mario vs Donkey Kong
>Mega Man EXE
>Drill Dozer
>Double Dragon and River City Ransom
>Shining games
>Sigma Star Saga
>Sword of Mana
>Yggdra Union
>Harvest Moon
>Boktai 1/2
>Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
>all Super Robot Taisen games
>Tactics Ogre
>Summon Night
one purpose of this thread is to find out how much of a fuck people actually gave about GBA. and so far the answer is, not much. I guess few cared about the platform to explore it deeply enough, and maybe just wrote it off as being a shovelware machine. its short life cycle is another reason. still, you'll see SNES oldfags know far more about games and all the hidden gems on their platform. I guess YouTubers and a huge nostalgic movement for it did help. but with GBA, nostalgia usually ends at "dude Pokemon lol". sad.
another purpose is to find out if people really like all those "hidden gems" like Ninja 5-o, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Drill Dozer and so on.

I think this would've worked better as a top 5 worst games. If you ask for the worst gba games, then all of that list of 10 or so games would ALSO be kill. Furthermore, gba titles are all good, even the worst ones are still playable AND you'd actually only be left with obscure titles. Someone would struggle to find bad titles for all 5 slots, at least. I'm not elitist, I simply know that topsters tend to have exactly same games. GBA was especially bad in this regard since half the people only played Pokemon and SNES ports. as usual, Nintendo's 1st party output on the system is overhyped already, and select few 3rd party choices like Castlevania / FF / Mega Man / Golden Sun are too obvious.

>Shmups on GBA are pretty few and far between as is.
kind of noticed that too. though you'd think that "weak specs + low budgets + playing for 15 minutes = perfect for SHMUPs".
was it a bad time for the genre or something? or was GBA too underpowered for all kinds of retro collections? I think PSP had a few of those for SHMUPs, right? but I can't recall if PSP had many original SMHUPS either.

>> No.9865967

You're wrong twice over. STGs need good hardware to push all those sprites around, and the GBA fortunately has a better CPU than any of the 4th gen home consoles.

>> No.9865983

>>9865959
I think the screen might be a major factor for the lack of shmups, since the system is limited to a 240x160 resolution, and AGB-001 models not having a backlight would make it hard to play in suboptimal lighting conditions. Vertical shmups would definitely be awkward to play, one way or another.

>STGs need good hardware to push all those sprites around
kind of. SNES was slow, but they still made a ton of SHMUPs for it. depends on the kind, if it's bullet hell then sure you need power. but something like Gradius works fine on it. and that still leaves the question: why not GBA?
I think the genre was kinda dying anyway, or maybe most companies looked at home consoles first to port their newest games from arcades. I honestly don't know as I'm not familiar with SHMUPs very much.
anyway, I googled it, and racketboy has an article on GBA SHMUPs. didn't know there were ports of Phalanx and Steel Empire to GBA. there's also Gradius Galaxies and Darius R. but those are all ones with "boring sci-fi setting with dull spaceships etc" as >>9865918 said.

you exaggerate things. I'm just a little upset when I see people who can't name anything beyond the banned games. but like I said, I'm slightly biased, as I grew up with the platform and had a flashcart, so I played all of the "classics" and all. I'm cool with people liking games, it's just that after 10-20 years you get tired of seeing the same shit recced that you beat a decade ago.

>one purpose of this thread is to find out how much of a fuck people actually gave about GBA. and so far the answer is, not much.
I get what you're saying, but you're being real retarded about it. You are removing the best and most well know games from consideration. You can do that with any console and get the same response. Are you mad that people enjoy playing good games on their GBA? Do you only value consoles if they have weird Japanese games about shooting turds at birds made by dropouts that sell under 1k copies? The GBA was at the peak of the era when janky weird game were no longer able to get on consoles but before janky indie games were allowed to flood marketplaces. It was the top of polished commercial products but it produced great games that a lot of people like to play. I think your brain is rotted by youtube to the point where you can't enjoy normal games but have to look for the weirdest and most unpopular things. There are 1500 GBA games just look through all
of them and see which one's you like, that's what I did. Stop waiting for someone to find some mystery game to keep your rotting brain alive.

Pokemon on the GBA is timeless so you better get used to it because people will be playing it until the end of time.

>I get what you're saying
You still don't
>You are removing the best and most well know games from consideration.
That's the point
>There are 1500 GBA games just look through all of them and see which one's you like
No one has have time for 1500 games, and the thread is for everyone to find recs
>you can't enjoy normal games
"hurr durr you're hipster". I already said I beat all the classics long ago and I liked them like everyone else.
>Pokeomon on the GBA is timeless so you better get used to it because people will be playing it until the end of time.
And?… OK?…
I find this pattern that American posters are always thinking that you're "trying to stop them from enjoying things and having fun" and get butthurt about it. You guys have a problem. I just made a thread to find less known games, that's all. The amount of butthurt in this thread is something.

Kek, maybe the GBA isn't that good. I could still list many games from my favorite console if you've put limitations on what you can chose from its library.

No you didn't, you could have but instead you made a favorites thread but banned the most popular favorites. 1500 games is nothing, there are 10k PS2 games. You can go on youtube and look at the games and decide which ones you like but you want people to do all the legwork for you and when they do all you can do is complain.

So it's almost like… like… you can still name cool games except for well-known games. Whoa. Almost like a thread to find less known games. hmmm.
except, you know, people don't just parrot some list of hidden gems, but name ones they actually PLAYED and LIKED. Wow. So not only we see "hidden gems", we also learn which ones of them are worth a shit.
I get it, anon, you're so butthurt someone didn't let you just go to a thread about less known games and say how much you like Pokemon because you played it all the time when you were 14. Very, very sad indeed. It was very important for us to hear that. I'm sure no one else experienced playing Pokemon on this board just like you did. We could all learn that Pokemon is a GOOD game and that YOU liked it! I mean, that's why we make threads like these, to learn about hidden gems like Pokemon.

I knew most of them, but didn't see many first-hand accounts of people who actually played those and don't see them through nostalgia goggles.

While the other games you mentioned are great, i can't recommend Yggdra Union enough. The game literally oozes with charm, pushes console's limits and gives a nice challenge. I even played the PSP remake and still like the GBA version more.

Is there a terminology for the beeping sounds of various tones that emulate a character's speech? Cause i'm in love with this and care not for modern voice-overs.

And that's a reasonable amount of games to forbid. It's like 5 popular titles/series. You could even add one more.
>Pokemon / Metroid / Zelda / Fire Emblem / Advance Wars / WarioWare / Mega Man Zero / Castlevania / Golden Sun games, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, FFTA, Mother 3, Wario Land 4, and any Treasure
This..is 14 fucking titles/names. I now have to check a huge list to see if by chance something is there, worry about what technically counts or not as a port (which probably adds 100+ titles). It's just kind of autistic, like, at this point you're forbidding whatever title you find out of spite when some might not even have on their top list. Then when someone calls you out on it you claim it's because they wanted Pokemon(lol). Pokemon is obviously not the issue here.
