9854692 No.9854692 [Reply] [Original]

So I recently found out about the GBAccelerator, and thought it might be worth putting in my gameboys and ds. Two things that come to mind is that looking up overclocking gameboys brings up a lot of results, with tons of people even clocking them faster than what the GBAccelerator does. Are there perhaps better kits for this or are those overclocks not stable?

whoops 2nd thing would be flashcart compatibility, I think putting a rom in the EZFlash Omege DE nor works, but I can't find confirmation outside of an older model of the EZflash bottomloader for a DS.

>overclocking old ass hardware
thats prolly pretty dumb desu
cant imagine an overclocked GBA being very powerful by anyones standards

That's not the point the point is using it as a fast forward for RPGs

>> No.9854978

>>9854742
Besides the fast forward, I assume that clock speeds could have been throttled to prioritize battery life similar to how the PSP did it.

>>9854750
If you have to fast forward an RPG either the game is shit you shouldn’t play it or you’re shit and should stop grinding and get good

I’d fast forward through Golden Sun’s boring fucking dialogs.

Grinding it an essential part of the pokemon post game. and yes this is where I found out about the mod. and yes pokemon is shit that I can't stop sniffing

Just use a fucking emulator jesus christ

>> No.9855085

this
i mean it's up to you if you want to spend all that money on this and an everdrive + time modding your gba to do what mGBA already does for free
but what's the point of playing on "an actual console" if you're just gonna use it like an emulator on a very VERY shitty screen

>> No.9855130

You're all free to share your opinions on doing this but my question was on implementation not if it was worth it.

>>9854692
what's the fucking point about wanting to do this on original hardware if you're going to force it to not run like original hardware? dumbass shit.

I’d imagine the instability isn’t from the mod so much as it’s from different games responding differently to being overclocked. A game might speed up its gameplay with the extra clockspeed or it might do nothing if logic isn’t tied to frame rate. Check specifically how it works with Pokémon games, I’m sure those games in particular are documented.
>>9855085
>>9855168
You guys are not only unhelpful, but also stupid. Gee, can’t think of a single reason someone might want to use original hardware for Pokémon? I’m not a Pokémon fan and even I know what people grind endgame for battles and trades against other people. You’ll need original hardware to accomplish that with other people playing on origins hardware. Besides, it’s a fucking game, stop bitching about how other people play it.
Although OP, if you’re wanting this for battling or trading, it’s kind of cheating don’t you think?

debatable, the gen2 games actually let you play the games at 3x speed in the game boy tower in pokemon stadium 2. Such a feature was not found on the gamecube in gen3. I'm playing singleplayer so it doesn't really matter.
>>9855204
that I don't think it's a fun process but I also don't want to open up pkhex and actually cheat.

>> No.9855234

>>9855196
also by instability I more meant when the gba can't handle it and crashes, every game gets the timing off of the cpu clock. It looks like I misread the clockspeeds and the higher overclocks were only by like 3 mhz so probably rounded.

I'm going to ask that the janitor just delete this thread as it can only devolve into people that don't care about playing around with hardware.

look man we're not bitching, just stating the obvious. no need to get mommy jannie to come and clean it up
if you're concerned about clock speeds or killing the cpu just dm that youtuber for tips

The "overclock" is just running the game at the soc spec, so there is no risk to the hardware same as the switch and no calling for my mom Stan the trans jan was just sarcasm because you can't have any discussion on this website anyway so why leave this thread up with the possibility of having any. The only actual discussions on this website are in generals I should have revived the hardware mods general for any chance of getting people actually interested in old hardware to talk about the implementation I can set this up just fine.

You might as well just move your save to an emulator at that point.

I think the main problem with this is that it doesn't make sense. If you want sped up grinding experience in RPG Gameboy game why wouldn't you emulate it on your phone? I guess yeah, your phone may be too big etc. Still I think for most people this is just bizzare.

just fucking cheat then you absolute retard? it takes like a couple of clicks at most to gen an entire team of pokemon versus fucking your GBA up because you have to get the okay from strangers on the internet of all things.
