Got any favorite retro magazines or issues you remember liking? I remember reading PC Accelerator at the store as a kid. I was too young for them for sure, but they were sick.

I mean yaaaaa pca was pretty fucking click baity. the covers were usually cute models or just cg girls, but I'm pretty sure it was always never more than a single page and tiny photo of the girls.

pcm was cool for that though. lots of random full art pages.

By 2000 all video game magazines turned into shit. A magazine is supposed to be a compendium of relevant texts, not a screenshot booklet.
Old CGW was my favorite, PC Zone UK was ok too (even though they always had a soft spot for low effort shitty jokes).

picrel is from the 2nd issue, May 1993. Apparently Bart's Nightmare on SNES was the 2nd best selling game the month prior, thought that was kind of interesting

I didn't read megasega or todosega.
At that time I mainly read hobby consolas, superjuegos and nintendo acción.
After supernes, nintendo acción turned inot a hollow, it was mediocre at its best.
Superjuegos was cool, it lends more toward japanese games, but they always at second place.
Hobby consolas, always give nintendo points even after they were turned in a pro-psx magazine.

They've never fully said but the best explanation I've seen is that she was "replaced" by Thrall, the orc/Thrall's campaign was mapped out pretty early and have Garona's part which presumably would have had her working with humans and eventually some sort of assassination faction (which is what she was in WoW before she got cut from that as well) would have had to of been a second orc campaign

I used to read PC Gamer US. I loved it at the time, particularly when we didn't have internet for a few years.
I went through the scans of the issues I had, and wow, it's all trash: articles, reviews, even the ads. Couldn't even get nostalgia value out of it. If anything, going back to them was actually anti-nostalgia.

Famicom Tsushin was the mag for the latest and upcoming games. It set the standard for having multiple reviewers of games that EGM and Gamefan adopted. Thanks to the magazine, to this day I still desire PC-98, FM Towns, and X68000 computers.

I liked N64 Gamer, an Australian magazine. It started with professional style writing, about a year after the N64 came out. Then, it turned into basically a comedy magazine, with a lot of South Park humour, many jokes straight from the show.
A lot of the reviews, especially of bad games, were just a bunch of clever, funny payouts on the game, every game had funny captions, most of which were dick jokes.
There was even a section called "Insult my Head" where you'd send in your photo, and "Mr. Bad Ass" would call you ugly.
The cover was one of many done by artist Matt Hatton, I really liked his style and a lot of the covers were made into tear-out posters.

While they tend to have comics that are in a series, the majority of information within the magazines does not reed to be read in sequential order. I hit the same places like the archive, retromags, etc. Due to the age of some of the issues, they may not have been preserved up to the standards of the archivist, so there will be missing issues. I even have magazines that I have not found pdf/cbz for yet either since there are some very obscure issues that few may know about or even care. That's just the nature of things with stuff from my time back in the 1900s.

I was subscribed to Nintendo Power as a kid, which I had up until the Wii era. Nowadays I'll grab a Retro Gamer issue from the book store by me every now and then. They are fun reads but they have kind of a Euro computer bias for obvious reasons, which means less Japanese games/consoles/computers and more Amiga/Commodore 64/ZX Spectrum etc.

Had fuck all to do with women and more to do with communists invading the space. They move in, push for a code of conduct, get into admin positions and then clear out the old guard. The only reason you saw more women appear is because they navigate to whatever is popular at the time. The only women who still play videogames now are e-celebs, vtubers, and the handful that were actually interested in the hobby.

The lesson to learn is if you ever here someone push for inclusivity, codes of conduct, or similar rules, you bully the fuck out them until they leave.

PC Mags in Brazil in the late 90's usually came with games. Sometimes translated full games, sometimes a disk full of demos. It's a shame that PC's were too expensive for me at that time. That made me hate being a consolefag

The "scene" has always been awful for everyone. Gamers are morons who behave badly in almost every situation. The solution has always been simple: If you want a "scene" then take up some other hobby; if you want games then play alone and avoid whatever type of game you dislike. (For the histrionic whiners here, I guess that's anything that smells like social justice or whatever.)

These britbongs had a huge influence on my sense of humor. They were just the cheekiest buggers, always sneaking in dirty jokes and bizarre segments into the magazine. Just chavs who fell backwards into writing about the CUBE. We got it here in Australia for some reason. The tone was very similiar to lad mags like Nuts and Zoo but with Nintendo instead, you really had to be there. Then all of them got the axe shortly before the Wii, and NOM (Nintendo Official Magazine) was replaced by ONM (Official Nintendo Magazine) which was an incredibly dull and dry corporate read. No doubt Nintendo wanted to clean up their image for the upcoming ultra family focused gen that was the Wii.

No, what your spouting is contrarianism. To even come to that conclusion you have to completely ignore what happened between 2016-2018 in both online and offline gaming journalism. The hobby was invaded and ruined for the most part, just not by women, it was the usual special interest groups.

If you want to argue that it doesn't matter anymore, fine, it doesn't. Just stop pretending it didn't happen and that anyone who doesn't have the memory of a goldfish is an incel or whatever the latest buzzword is this week.
