Why is SMB3 so comfy? I'm serious. I didn't grow up with the game, I have little attachment to it, I never beat it. I never even owned an NES. Recently I just decided to watch a frog suit TAS of SMB3 out of boredom. And damn if the game didn't feel comfy as hell. Everything about is so soothing. The music is so chill. The graphics have these pastel tones and nice patterns (like those dotted ones in caves). The levels really feel like you're exploring nature, you go through plains, caves, lakes and such—very few games give you this feeling. You can just turn into a frog or raccoon and have fun. How did they do it?

That goomba killed me the first time I played the game in a mall kiosk. True story.

Because it had Soul. Wait until you play SMW. Even more comfy. All SMB games are comfy until Sunshine.

My favourite thing about SMB3 is the pacing. This is what idiots who complain about some stages being too short or too straight don't understand, those are usually the first levels in a world, and they're important for the overall pacing.
The difficulty curve of the game is pretty much perfect too. Except maybe for the sun which filtered a lot of people, but that's mainly because it comes off as a surprise.

To this day I mistrust goombas and rarely award them the benefit of the doubt. Some may call that prejudice, but so is presuming to understand the unique scars that marks us as individuals.

actually I played SMW before SMB3. and… I don't know. it just doesn't feel quite like it. stuff is too geometric / square. that one upbeat tune that plays the whole game gets old after a while. it's not really like exploring nature. a few levels are so abstract, they don't feel like nature anymore. it looks slightly more realistic and somewhat loses that cartoon vibe that SMB3 had. it IS comfy, but not nearly as much as SMB3.
SM64 is same but worse. too fucking bright. too realistic for its own good. doesn't really feel like exploring the nature.

What is up with that hammer suit? It looks like an orange toad

The worlds feel more like gigantic levels that have been split into parts, and they form a narrative as well. The desert is probably the best example, you wander through an oasis, get chased by a sun, explore a pyramid. Feels like an actual adventure instead of a pack of obstacles

>Mario 3 allowed you to take 3 hits with a powerup but World doesn't
what the fuck is up with that

>> No.9836039

The 3 hits thing was only in the western releases of smb3. I guess they thought World is too easy and kept the 2 hit rule.

its the embodiment of sovl. i just wish they would've had a few more levels with the suit powerups and the shoe.

Nintendo goofed and the block spawned version looks different than the map inventory unlike the other suits.

The training scene in the Mario Bros. movie made me want to play one of them again and SM3 is technically next in line for me, but I've never liked the aesthetic for some reason. I can't put my finger on it.

I love wario world II, it's all so goofy and funny. It's full of hidden places. It's long but not too long. don't even feel bad if something bad happens to wario. He loves money. He is our shrek.

World had the reserve slot though, so it's functionally the same and even better because you can hotswap the feather or fire flower within the level.
