Unfortunately that game and Darkside Chronicles have a bad rep of being "bad" simply for being on-rail shooters.

That's my experience with the game too. I bought it on the N64 and never played the PS1 version. I did unlocked all Leon A and B, as well as Claire A and B endings, so my experience is interlaced 15fps video with compressed audio and a somber piano tune for all endings. I still love the N64 version though. I know its flaws.

They're good games, but the downfall of Umbrella should've been something depicted in the mainline titles, not relegated to a rail shooter spinoff. Then again, it's Capcom's fault for churning out too many spin-offs, prequels and sidequels until everyone just lost interest and they had to reinvent shit for RE4.

>> No.9831616

Capcom love to do this since "lore materials in other things" worked well for Gundam SEED Destiny, Mega Man is particularily guilty of it, a lot of it's lore is locked to Japan-only artbooks and even a second booklet included in one of the OSTs having a lengthy epilogue.

But on a more serious note, I don't necessarily think they brainwashed him. What I do think is that they were probably going to either have him killed, imprisoned or put in a witness protection program following the incident at Raccoon City if he refused to join the super secret cool guy task force.

They're kind of bad lightgun games though. The camera and framerate are unsteady, and the cursor running at the game's bad framerate instead of 60 makes it feel laggy as crap. Loadouts also throw any sort of arcade scoring/consistency out the window and honestly all machine gun/shotgun lightgun are weak.

It seems like Capcom Production Studio 3 did the ports for resident Evil 2 and 3 on the Dreamcast, and they were responsible for the original PC ports. it seems like they would have used the PC port as a base, and then redid the soundtrack to take advantage of the DC hardware, and maybe replaced all the lower coloured pre-rendered images with better ones, and added VMU support. They are using WindowsCE for the ports, and the dev time was much shorter for both of them combined, in comparison to porting Resident Evil 2 to the Saturn.

I played through this last week. This must be one of the games the GDemu drastically speeds up the load times because I didn't notice them as bad at all. It definitely had faster loading times than the Resident Evil Directors cut I also played on the Mister recently. I assume with emulation the loading times on the Dreamcast are faster too.

Wouldn't surprise me since Outbreak on PS2 has absolutely awful loading times but playing it of an HDD makes it a hundred times better. If you're on DC consider trying the hard/nightmare mode. It's hard as fuck but it's the ultimate official RE2 challenge. It's a DC and PC exclusive mode.

I'm not saying I don't believe you but Outbreak has equally terrible loading times on real hardware with a disc game, on real hardware that is modded and loading through network, and on pc emulated. And those load times can take up to 10-15 seconds often.

Code Veronica started as Resident Evil 2 on the Saturn. It claimed to use the 4mb RAM cart. Sega really wanted some BioHazard games on the Saturn. Capcom switched over to Dreamcast development. The port team that was working on RE2 Saturn made the engine for CV.
