They're doing better as of recent with:
>Sonic Mania
>Streets of Rage 4
>the new Samba de Amigo
>Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania (not great but at least being utilised)
>Shenmue III (also not great but same as above)
>that weird VR Space Channel 5 game
>that new weird Cosmic Smash VR game
>alleged Jet Set Radio sequel and alleged Crazy Taxi sequel

do you think they'll continue to improve and use their amazing IPs?

Can't wait for Girl's Garden 2, where you give flowers to other girls to distract them from thinking about boys.

I hate to say it but as much as I enjoy seeing these I usually end up not buying them when I can just play the original games instead. I think they are great for newcomers or as a way of introducing younger audiences to older series, but I usually just end up skipping them. I totally support game preservation but there is really no reason for me to spend money on a game when I can just download and play the original rom (or original cartridge/disc if I own it) for free.

That said, I think they're doing fine. Just port NiGHTS or something and call it a day. As well as the games you listed, they also licensed out Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy for Miracle World DX and the MWIV remake.

Sometimes initatives/direction changes in huge companies take a while to come to fruition, especially with game development times nowadays.
>>9826603
I agree totally on the remakes like Monkey Ball, I'd rather play the originals, but some of these are totally new. Also Nights also got ported to PS2 in 2008 (Japan only), then to PC in 2013 and it's still on Steam to this day

>> No.9826683

Battletoads was godawful, River Shitty Girls was hyped to hell and back but I don't get how it's good, new TMNT game is okay, and no new Castlevania on the horizon except for the anime (pretty decent I guess) and terrible Dead Cells DLC.

>> No.9826714

The only thing I want is a fucking JSRF port to PC or the Switch
>what are you a normalfag? just emulate
My PC can't handle Xbox emulation. Also I sold my 360 like a retard I am ages ago without even knowing it was backwards compatible, absolutely don't feel like buying it again. I swear to god the original is one of my favorite games of all time but I still haven't played Future

It's pretty much confirmed at this point but don't get too excited it's rumored that it's gonna be free to play with microtransations based off fortnite's free to play model. Either way we jet set fans are eating good with this plus bomb rush cyberfunk.

How in the fuck does that even make sense. It's crazy how much I flip flop between missing Sega in the console space and wishing nothing but plague, famine, and misery upon them as a company.

>Sonic Mania is filled with tumblr tranny/furry tryhard fan developers, and it shows
>Streets of Rage 4's art style looks cheap and phoned-in, Hispanic-washed Blaze (nice tits though)
>new Samba looks like it will be shit and zoomerized (an absolute disgrace to the best rhythm game of all time)
>Banana Mania has ruined physics
>Shenmue III is mediocre, pandering shit
>two (two) gay blue-arms sonic movies

How the fuck is Sega "doing better" now?

>> No.9827682

>>9827527
Nah it's kinda smart when you think about it.

Most people's takes on it reminds me of the announcement of Microsoft buying Minecraft (out of touch, thought it'd be a failure)

I think the two key factors here in the purchase is aggressively building a more notable western mobile presence and perhaps improving their general merchandising ability. These are two places SEGA has majorly struggled in. The reverse is probably true in that SEGA can properly help expand Angry Birds onto console and PC perhaps. This should hopefully bring in more money for them.

>> No.9827690

>>9827567
Kind of. I think they have unique appeals. I do prefer the trick system, music and controls in Future, but the original has the better atmosphere and tone, levels are a lot more manageable in size in the OG too.

>> No.9827695

>>9827607
They want to make a "supergame" so a game that continually brings in revenue to base other projects off, like Candy Crush is for Microsoft atm. With the news of SEGA buying Rovio, this may have changed for the better though, since that's an insta super game for them.

>> No.9827728

>>9827695
I keep hearing this Sega Supergame term, is that a thing now? Supergame just means shitty mobile microtransaction shitgame with a super long tail that keeps whale cucks hooked? Fantastic, truly based soul masters sega.

>> No.9827745

>>9827728
It's just their marketing term for a game that provides sustained revenue with little maintenance, and yes mobile games tend to be that. Mobile games absolutely dwarf the console market, most people aren't aware. Just the way of the world.

>> No.9827750

>>9827745
So is the copium assumption that sega is going to use the revenue from this super game to fund all kinds of epic kino bangers straight revived from the dreamcast/Saturn era of development? Because I’m positive not a dime of this game or games plural is going to fund any meaningful developments, they still can’t port their own goddamn games effectively after how many years.

>> No.9827774

>>9827750
Not him, but even if they ported these games, how many people will buy them?

>> No.9827776

>So is the copium assumption that sega is going to use the revenue from this super game to fund all kinds of epic kino bangers straight revived from the dreamcast/Saturn era of development?
Nah I think no one is assuming that will happen although I wish they would, but it should put them in a better financial position hopefully. But the issues that prevent them from making more riskier/experimental games like that we saw on the Saturn/Dreamcast are industry-wide what with just how big the gaming industry is now.

And when a lot of money is involved, risk will want to be minimized, so everything becomes super safe, plain and boring. If you look deep enough you'll see this is how all of the biggest developers have headed over the past 15ish years.

>Sony axed all of their Japanese development
>Sega play it safe with only their best sellers like Sonic, Persona, Yakuza, Football Manager, Total War etc... with the occasional remake/remaster
>Bandai Namco stuck doing endless remasters/remakes that are worse than the originals mostly
>Nintendo also released barely any genuinely new games this gen, relying a lot more on remasters/remakes/legacy content
and so on and so on....

Only place where you can get new stuff like that nowadays are indies/fangames as well as translation patches for Japan only games, since all of these aren't beholden to the same restrictions as I mentioned earlier.

I don't know a whole lot about them but last I heard Rovio was in really bad shape, I just don't want them to end up weighing SEGA down. The Atlus buyout in comparison was a much better choice.

You only work hard on your IPs when you want them to be system sellers of your OWN hardware. Once you go third party developer, you become a minimum effort path addict.

The difference is Microsoft bought Minecraft when it was still in its infancy, whereas Angry Birds peaked in popularity over a decade ago. Also, Minecraft is based on user-created content, so the limits of it are just the players' imaginations, whereas Angry Birds is essentially just a simplistic physics puzzle.
