What isn't redundant is the improved ergonomics of the DualSense. Start, Select and touchpad are easier to hit, better triggers, more tactile L1/R1 and buttons, better shape overall.
It's the ergonomy, stupid.

So does it actually feel noticeably better than the DS4?

Recently I played Onimusha 4 on my PS2, and the difference in ergonomics between a DS2 and DS4 is absolutely insane, especially for action-heavy games that require more precise analog stick inputs. The whole time I was playing it I’d have frequent fits of frustration over having to use the DS2.

It's useless for DC and before. (PS1 games usually use one stick) It would hurt ergonomics.
