Is there any chance the japanese prototype of this game will ever be released?

It looked a lot darker than the version we got and I'm desperate to play it.

I think I heard someone was working on a romhack to make monster party resemble the prototype. Although maybe eventually the prototype will be released

There's some japanese people who hang on for prototypes for too long, man.

I know this guy who has the finished build of the unreleased Cocoron for the PC Engine, but he won't share it. I understand he may be doing it out of respect, but if he truly wanted to respect the game, he'd fulfill the creators' wish of having the whole world enjoy it.

I don't know why I enjoyed that game.

I guess it was just a slid, unique platformer.

I was sorta surprised that this game come out in america first. It seemed very japanese to me with the evil well and giant fried shrimp attacking you

I know right? IIRC there's some Japanese dude who owns this prototype OP wants, but he won't dump the ROM.

I literally find it reasonable to murder such people.

Can we get one of the autists on this board to explain why you would want to not share something like that? I want to see into their mind

Some people like having exclusivity, and Japanese owners might have to worry about legal repercussions.

Also on that note, gathering a group of people to donate money to buy or pay for the dumping of said prototypes may work.

>UPDATED 8/27/11: Dear friends, further whining and complaining and DEMANDING for this to be released for free will be met with laughter, finger pointing, and ridicule. I've had people message me, demanding me to release this as a rom, threatening me and calling me most names in the book. Protip: Spend some money yourself obtaining these and dump them yourself. No one is "hoarding" anything but people sure do forget when people already have dumped things for them in the past. Just enjoy the video friends, and know that yes, this does exist somewhere in the world :)

To be fair, this is an SNES port of a Genesis game. And we all know how SNES versions of Genesis games turn out.

At the expense of the game somehow being worse. Fewer enemies, prominent slowdown, slight gameplay changes, etc.

Seriously, why were all SNES ports of Genesis games so terrible?

Whoa, what? Last time I read about Socks The Cat, it sounded like it was the other way around but uhh let me just link this. It's pretty much the guy who owns the cart going back forth with people who want to buy it. Pretty funny read.

He fails to realize that his cart will remain valuable if he dumps it. People only want the rom to check out the game, not to have it as a collector's item.

This sounds like it could be a mission from Grand Theft Auto. You have to break into someone's house, kill everyone there (why not?), steal the game, dump the image successfully, and destroy it.

One thing that pisses me off the most is people who don't want to dump roms because they think it will hurt the monetary value of their precious little collector's item

There's this guy who has this youtube channel with an hour length video of both 12 Tales Of Conker & Dinosaur Planet and I swear to fucking god it was the most torture I've ever been through in my life know that this sad sack of horseshit is playing something that people have spent their entire childhoods waiting to play

He'a not completely wrong in reasoning.

Earthworm Jim 1 has low quality music samples, but the compositions are still good. Enhanced palette and some nice visual effects but there are way less voice samples of Jim, and Intestinal Distress is completely missing in action on SNES version. If you really have an eye for animation like I do, you'll know that they actually removed frames in the SNES version of Earthworm Jim. Now, Earthworm Jim 2 on the Genesis and SNES really go neck in neck because they are mostly identical, but more than half of the game's songs sound better on the SNES version as well as featuring more color. Keep in mind, the Genesis rendition of Lorenzon's Soil is just groundbreaking.

Lost Vikings on Genesis has extra levels.
Mickey Mania sounds flat on SNES and takes the charm out of the lively songs by Matt Furniss and crew, and there are some missing scenes.
Maui Mallard SNES is graphically enhanced over the Genesis versions, with some slight level differences. Both versions compliment the music, but you'll find a way to disagree I'm sure.
All Thunderforce games sound better on FM.
Boogerman music on SNES again loses the Matt Furniss touch and just uses Sculptured Software's run of the mill sound scheme. It's not flat but it is muffled and in low quality. If you've ever heard anyone diss an SNES soundtrack, they often say it sounds like it's coming from down the hall, or out of a cow's ass.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Desert Strike, ehh. Preferences.

It's good for GEMS and the chords are nice, but far from groundbreaking, especially when you yourself mentioned Matt Furniss, a man whose soundtracks are much more deserving of that distinction.

Yep. There weren't many western composers that got that kind of range and tonality out of the YM2612 like Matt Furniss did. The problem with GEMS is that it didn't cover what the chip was fully capable of.

More rad western use of YM2612
