This was my first major Mario game and I loved it. I've played 64 before, and it some respects the gameplay is better, but I love how cohesive Sunshine's world feels. Every thing feels lived in and full. You can see other zones from the one your in, tons of piantas you can walk around and talk to, its a fun world to be in.

The best way I can put it is if Mario 64 is an excellent platformer, Sunshine is an excellent adventure game.

you can't be serious about it being better than 64.

the color pallet alone is enough to make one throwup. the soundtrack is just repetitive and only like 3 of the songs are worthy of being considered really good.

SM64 could have been excused on the gamecube and it would have been passable at the shitty direction nintendo had been trying to go with since the wii era

It's decent for a 3D platformer, bad for a mainline Mario game. Like a lot of Nintendo games on the Gamecube, it shows an obvious lack of polish that is rare for the company.

It's funny, I'm playing the game seriously for the first time and doing a 100% run. I only have 100 coin shines and the final level left. The game has so many infuriating design decisions that are at odds with the pleasant aesthetic. All the memed levels like the lily pad, pachinko and watermelon festival deserve their reputation. The game's physics are also very inconsistent and going through slopes is a coin flip. Its definitely a nostalgia ridden game. If you played it as a kid you remember being happy walking around Delfino and forget how miserable it is to actually complete.
I'm not a fan of SM64 but I can't in good conscience claim Sunshine is better than that.

It is kind of a waste that Mario 64 and Sunshine didn't both get Galaxy 2 style sequels that used the same engine, and tightened everything up a little. It wouldn't have been incredibly hard to make those games.

100%ing Sunshine is a hell I never want to endure. I think as a kid I got to like 112 shines and I will never attempt that as an adult.

I have a weird fascination with games that are difficult for unconventional reasons. After beating a lot of famously difficult games I started craving some weird challenges. I 100%'d Sonic 06 and that was pretty funny. Nothing in Sunshine is legitimately hard to the point of getting you stuck, it's just annoying most of the way through. I still find it hard to believe actual game designers, let alone Nintendo designers made some of these levels.

Any chance this is playable on real hardware? I hacked my Wii and I'd love to put this on it assuming this is just a GameCube rom and the widescreen is just because of Dolphin
