Some anon actually examined level per level and out of 72 levels, 17 are the ones that actually let you fly through the stage. And anyway a lot of SMW's ethos is finding secrets and stuff, you need to explore the levels. Some reward you by exploring the sky, but many others are about exploring the ground, the majority.

Not sure how implied "ethos" factors in in game design though; it would be an interesting sociological experiment to design a really difficult hardcore platforming game for example, but then populate it with ubiquitous powerups that basically defuse all that challenge (like an invincibility item for example), with absolutely no effect on the game by whether you used them or not. Or better yet, requiring actual skill to avoid grabbing such items altogether.

I find it peculiar how autistic haters can just keep saying the same dumb shit over and over again even when it gets deboonked right in front of them a million times. It's such a dishonest, self-loathing, time-wasting behavior

Watch any blind playthrough and you will see that no one can just breeze through the game because of this item and that no normal person will memorize or put in the work to get it every time he loses it, or let alone knows exactly how to use it properly and in which level

Kirby games give you infinite flight but are still designed like a normal platformer with ground based hazards and even pits. The original is cake but the sequels can get a bit tougher especially Dreamland 2 where you have to keep certain powerups to find hidden areas. It's not as extreme as invincibility but being able to fly like that sounds like it should be more effective than it is in practice.

And none of that matters because
>And anyway a lot of SMW's ethos is finding secrets and stuff, you need to explore the levels. Some reward you by exploring the sky, but many others are about exploring the ground, the majority.
And also your criteria is moving goalposts. 17 are the levels that you can actually "Fly through the entire level", which is what most people always say about the cape. "Partial" is a goal move.
And ANYWAY, all this "omg cape breaks the game" talk has always been falseflag shit by people who don't even like Mario games to begin with, same as SMB3 vs SMW threads.

This. Wow, I get to mash the jump button to fly slow as fuck and get nothing out of it. The cape at least has utility and is fun to use, there are some really cool hidden secrets to find in a few levels with it, and it doesn't actually break the game like people think it does when like 75% of levels have shit blocking you from just flying over the entire thing

Nobody is a boring enough person to go out of their way to skip a level by flying, when it's more fun to play it.
Flying with the cape is more about learning how to do it than anything. Once you figure it out the novelty wears off.
