PS1 (increased the enemy health values and lessened the Ink Ribbons), Director's Cut, Saturn, PC, DS or REmake?

Director's Cut(not the dualshock version)

This is undisputable unless you're lucky enough to know japanese in that case just play the original version

Whatever you do, just don't do DS, Saturn, or Dual Shock Director's Cut as a first playthrough

What are the differences other than the soundtrack and the performance issues on Saturn?

Soundtrack is fine on Saturn, the models are just chunky, spray-tanned and Virtua Fighter-esque. No other re-release has used these models nor has any other re-release used the DualShock soundtrack. These are signs to acknowledge.
Lack of transparency on Saturn also makes the blood look like ass and some backgrounds had to be modified to accommodate for this as well. It's not a bad way to play the game as these are all relatively minor compromises. Just don't play Deadly Silence first as the audio is low-quality and the backgrounds have visible compression even on hardware. It's a novelty to enjoy after you've played the PC/PS1 Director's Cut nopn-DualShock version at least twice.

This. I don't know why barely anyone mentions this. Portable RE was cool at the time but the music sounds like ass in Deadly Silence

Deadly Silence posters are mostly delusional and Nintendo-obsessed, they aren't going to upfront about the flaws of their beloved system's port. Either that or they're so deranged they legitimately don't even notice.

I really like the dual screen but believe me. Unless you're on reddit no one is unaware about the DS line being a crap stop gap that should have had at least DSi specs from the start with the Lite shell, but its the second best selling console so what do I know. This doesn't really matter so go back on topic anyway

>performance issues on Saturn?

Is this another snoy meme? There are no performance issues on the Saturn. It's not terribly difficult for either the Saturn or the PS1 to display a 2D image with 1-4 texture mapped models overlaid on top of it.

>>9802128
The blood looks different, but it's not ass. The only parts of the Saturn version that look like ass are the water fountain where the plant is growing and the area in the lab that is flooded (especially this part, having a huge area covered in mesh transparency looks like complete shit if you're running the game on anything better than composite video). You'll see meshes in one or two other places for a split second (like glass breaking), but outside of those two spots it's not really noticeable.

As for the character models, for some reason Chris is roided as fuck in the Saturn version compared to the PS1 version. He has the body of a man who punches boulders to death. The models on the Saturn version have much better seams, but if you're emulating you want the PS1 version because the Saturn model's textures look weird as fuck when you start doing a lot of upscaling.

Between the two, the Saturn version is better if you want to play the game as originally released with its original level of difficulty. The PS1 version is better if you want more options (like arrange mode) or the ability to play the game in easy mode. Both are good versions, and you can't really go wrong with either.

The music isn't awful. It just isn't as good overall as the original game but I think some tracks are not only perfectly fine but even better. I like the mansion music when you go back to it for example and it is full of Hunters. The save room track is pretty good to actually. People act like the entire soundtrack is as bad as mansion basement this isn't true at all.

I'm willing to bet that the people who parrot the meme about the Dual Shock soundtrack have never even played it. Rebecca's little theme when you meet her in that version is one of my favorite tracks from the whole series. They remixed it into the 0 save theme too.

I'm willing to bet that the people who pretend the Dual Shock soundtrack is worth a turd in India deeply regret playing the wrong Director's Cut for their first time.
