I passed up buying this game for under ten bucks at used game stores so many times. I never bothered to actually look up the game or read the back of the jewel case.

Did this come out around the same time Charlie's Angels did? That's the only explanation I can think of for why they'd do this.

I remember seeing this in bargain bins all the time as a kid and not bothering to buy it because the cover looked so stupid. Eventually played it when the HD collection came out and turns out it's a great game. Who knew?!

Don't know what the fuck they thought they were doing here. You can tell where the line was as far as 90s marketing goes because of the ones who overshot it.

Yeah SH 1 EU, SH 2 US, SH 3 EU are the best. Those 3 are also in similar style so there is some continuity in cover arts. Region jump between EU US EU is weird though.

Well nobody had the chance to get it. They don't do polls of the general populace to see which art style we prefer, every "localization" was done by a handful of faggots in an office and we're all stuck with what they decided to do. And in the 80s and 90s, we had no way of knowing that anything was changed at all. Almost every anime that was brought to US television in the 20th century was a smash hit because they couldn't change the art style of a whole show.

US SotN has IMO the biggest discrepancy between box art and game quality ever. It's not even bad per se, it's just so bland and unrepresentative, from a glance you'd think it's some mediocre horror title as opposed to probably the best game on the system
