Say something nice about Blood Omen 2.

It's neat that it started as a Chakan sequel before they repurposed everything.
It's not a bad game or anything. It's kind of just alright.

Lolwut, really?

The history is iffy but they at least reused assets from a cancelled Chakan sequel for the Dreamcast IIRC. There are some videos on youtube about it.

I never knew that. That's really interesting.

I wish it wasn't re-branded as a LoK game, the steampunk meets alien invasion setting is really cool, like something straight out of a comic book, but it's really out of place in a LoK game.

Yeah, it really doesn't fit into the series. It's a shame cause I just love the gameplay and level design.

Cool music, cool atmosphere, decent level design. Shame about the combat.
Better than SR2 for sure.

Oh yeah. Soul Reaver 2 felt really boring for some reason. I can't really put my finger on it.

Actually they took elements from two cancelled projects: the Chakan sequel and another one called Sirens. See https://www.thelostworlds.net/BO2/Chakan_and_Sirens.html

This is kinda weird, cause when I look at Kain from BO2 I think he looks cool and gothic. But when I look at this, I think it looks gay.

its maybe not a great game
but it was my first PC game...so it holds a very special place in my heart.

It was the first PS2 game I beat to the end.

Well its actually kind of the only one I really played much of. I think I also beat Soul Reaver 1 but can't remember for sure. I played 2 I think but am positive I didn't beat that one. I also played Defiance, didn't beat that though. Blood Omen 2 I definitely beat and possibly even twice. I thought it was a pretty cool game. I liked that long jump that Kain gets.

Kain's overall design in Blood Omen 2 is really cool.
Blood Omen 1 and Soul Reaver 1 are the best games in the franchise, you should definitely give them a go.

Do you know how the timeline for the series is supposed to work? From my memory the Blood Omen games take place before Soul Reaver right? Also was Defiance good or no? I remember seeing people kind of divided on that one.

>> No.9783705

Man that brings me back. After SR1 I played like 90% of BO2 and then Defiance.
Piecing together the story is one of my core video game memories. I played SR2 after that and the rest of BO2 and was so annoyed that it just spelled it out for me. It goes to show that less is more.

It's got kain in it and the post apocalyptic nosgoth is pretty interesting. Kain is always better than raziel

It's complicated...
You are right that Blood Omen 1 takes place before Soul Reaver 1 but honestly the entire chronology is a complete mindfuck.

https://legacyofkain.fandom.com/wiki/Timelines#Observed_timelines

As for Defiance, I really wanted to like it but it's such a drag to play through. Without going into spoilers, a lot of the gameplay consists of finding different versions of the Soul Reaver. It's really repetitive and just slows down progressing through the story, which sucks cause the plot is super cool.

>> No.9783767

>>9783696
Defiance has the best (most modern) combat in the series but that's not really saying much. It's the conclusion of the story, you have to play it.

>>9783729
No one should be allowed to call any game repetitive in a blood omen 2 thread. BO2 is THE game I think of when someone talks about repetitive games

This might be a controversial opinion but I feel that Kain's many abilities in BO2 help keep the gameplay varied.

>> No.9786491

It's been a really long time since I played it but I just remember slogging through the enemy after enemy where no one really posed a threat but each fight was time consuming and the big pay off was no you can hit a switch so you can run down a corridor to fight enemy after enemy. I also remember the opening tutorial being one of the worst tutorials I've ever played.

I do remember the vampire powers being really well done though. Also any game where you play as kain is better than any game where you play raziel.

The gameplay was identical to Soul Reaver, but every enemy was just "hit them until they die", and demons were a chore to fight. Progression was pretty much linear, with none of SR1's freedom of exploration. It's a little bit shit as a game, and the story hard carries it.

I fucking hated the demons in Soul Reaver 2. Still it's one of the best entries in the series story-wise.
