=====NEWS======

-A few days ago we got the chance to see Doom being played and showcased at its best by two members of the community (DevastatioN and Jkist3) in the Grand Finals of a special tournament that took place at Quakecon itself! YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THIS SHIT, I'M SERIOUS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcSj0lk-vEo

-A crucial date is coming for the community...yeah, that's right! In August 9th, The Marines mod by Sgt.Mark will get released!...Oh, and Brutal Doom v19 too

-The *allegedly* Doom 64 World Record got shattered in the past Summer Games Done Quick marathon, if you missed it, click here http://pastebin.com/TbxiU6UK (starts at five minutes in)

-OBLIGE v5 (WIP) "leaked", feel free to ask in the thread for a link

-Project MSX Beta 2 released (GZDoom's next big thang. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s8oGz0TUHY for more details)

-Cyberrunner (WIP) has been announced; we had the opportunity to give it a try and help with alpha testing, for more info. check this link http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=36608

-After eons, Zandronum got updated! (1.1.1) http://zandronum.com/download

Quick update on the Doom tournament at Quakecon

Based on what Jehar (one of the dudes narrating the finals) said in the stream while the Grand Finals took place, we MIGHT get a chance to see the demos of the whole tournament duels, so stay alert on that subject and check any Quakecon-related website

Also, here's the Losers Finals between DevastatioN and Demonsphere that was awesome to watch too
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8bATdO_KJE

(And of course, reposting the Grand Finals here too, seriously, if I'm taking the time to post this TWICE is for a reason. To get an idea on how good it was, the whole Quakecon crowd -who were expecting to see the Quake 3 Grand Finals only- exploded after the first match)

>HAHA, TIME FOR A LENGHTY RANT

Okay, /vr/, riddle me this motherfucker right here

Why on earth people still think that the Icon of Sin (or the Baphomet, because that's what it's actually supposed to be, since the "Icon of Sin" was colloquially named JUST because of the last level's name and nothing more) is Satan himself and you get to fight him in Doom 2 (or any other kind of environment, like Sgt.Mark's most recent custom WAD)?

Why, of all fucking situations in which you can encounter the Lord of ALL Hell, you should be fighting him while he's stuck between cables, tubes and a rusty wall while its forehead is exposed? Would a deity with such a legendary omniscience, stay still defenseless while you shoot military rockets at its exposed brain?

>B-b-but he spits demons!

NO, FUCK YOU, HE'S SATAN, WHY WOULD HE SPAWN HIS LITTLE MINIONS WHEN HE COULD GET OUT OF THAT WALL AND ASSRAPE YOUR SOUL?

Let's get some things clear. The Baphomet wasn't considered a *true* depiction of Satan himself until Eliphas Lévi made that occult book in which he depicts him as that humanoid goat with tits, wings and all that shit. While it's one of the most well-known depictions of the Lord of Darkness, it's not even regarded as the ultimate form of him in many other cultures.

In the Final Doom manual he's named "Baphomet", in TNT and Plutonia it's named "the demon-spitter" and "the Gatekeeper" respectively. NONE of the official games regard him as the true Devil, so what's on their goddamn minds when they decide to call him like that?

WHY?

Having played both renditions from a sprite version of the IoS, I can say that Mark beats Xaser's fight concept. Plus, he didn't removed any weapons because they were illogically OP like Xaser did back in the day.

But still, I've yet to see a fairly decent rendition of an IoS fight, Mark is the one that has been more close than any other person so far, yet it lacks of consistence and dynamic. Many people have suggested using a voxel IoS, but I'm not sure if any advanced port can support voxels with enough playability to be used for a big ass boss fight such as the IoS encounter

It's actually 48HP, and yeah, there's no point on collecting the blue armor and/or soulsphere before triggering the IoS boss fight if he's scripted to blow your ass out with the Cloverfield scream.

It's kind of annoying when you try to dodge everything in your path (for some reason the first monsters that spawns from the cubes are arachnotrons and they always get in my way, not sure if I'm the only one) and try to assemble your attacks at the same time

Oh, and those two blue armours from the IoS bossmap? They're unreachable using vanilla settings.

>> No.971238

Yeah, the Icon of Sin is pretty underwhelming. I especially dislike that map30 literally was nothing but: Room with every weapon in it > IOS

I mean, at least the original doom required you to play the levels sequentially to bring certain weapons to the final level (E1M8 didnt have an RLauncher, E2M8 didn't have a plasma rifle, E3M8 didnt have a BFG)

Best map30's are the ones that play like an actual level before the IOS fight (Eternal Doom's map30 probably a favourite of mine). Bonus points if you arent spoonfed every weapon.

>> No.971247

>>971238
Agreed about being spoonfed weapons at the start. I'm fine with that stuff in map32 slaughterfest maps since it generally makese sense. But in fucking map30, it just takes away the fun in actually plaything through the whole game, since you can basically just pistol start the final level and still have everything.

That's because Doom 1 and 2 are IWADs, and Psychic is a PWAD. GZDoom recognizes IWADs and will supply a list for you to pick from when you run the executable. It does not generate a list for PWADs, you have to drag and drop the file on the .exe, or use command line, or use a front-end like ZDL.

These are all very good, very different mods. Accessories to Murder has some of the best sprites I've ever seen in Doom, and they're scripted into some of the most satisfying weapons I've used in Doom. Hideous Destructor is tacticool to the max, with an extremely steep difficulty curve, but extremely satisfying gameplay once you get used to it. Project MSX a bit of a mix of the two, introducing features from modern shooters while retaining high-speed gameplay.

it blends in style but not in difficulty. it's 10x as hard as everything else in the wad except the big battle at the end of the final map (was 24, now 25)

It's more like the baphomet being the one that is keeping the portal from hell to earth open while satan is in the other side. Everything else is just an unnecessary extra that edgy kids try to stick to the original game just to try to feel more cool.

well, depending on who you listen to (demonology is lol) then he is chained up in hell anyway. christ is meant to go down and unlock him so he can start the apocolypse or something. so being stuck in a wall isn't that great a stretch i suppose.

i always thought that the wall-thing was just some sort of big demon, which is what it's described as in-game anyway.

and we're done. overall BD does not really change pl32's overall difficulty, if you know the map. you just change your tactics a bit. mostly kill cyberdemons from range with the plasma gun rather than trying to charge them down and do the BFG two-step (if you know what i mean).

as for this BD test version i think it was marginally easier to do pl32 than the last version of BD i played (v17). monsters in groups seemed to kill each other faster, i hardly saw the huge group of archviles that emerge in front of the blue key when you go through the yellow door, they just all died somehow. not to mention the massive crowd of revenants that emerge from over there when you lower the yellow key beforehand, and the crowd of barons at the end in front of the exit, pretty much all died to infighting without my needing to do much.

oh well. i hope someone found this interesting...

I want (1) from the alternate hud, and would like the original (2) ammo count, or (1) from the alternate hud on the original hud.

You can jump in the wad, and there are some parts where you have to jump, and then some parts where you can skip portions of the level by jumping. this is my favourite new bug

W1 close door actions don't reverse direction if something's blocking them; they hold in place until the thing moves out of the way. but with brutal doom the thing blocking the ceiling from moving down is a corpse, which will never move. in doom the corpse would just be squashed.

because the close action never completes you can't press the switch to start a new action on the sector to open the door again.

so you are stuck, forever.

The guy has gone on record saying that Brutal Doom is the best thing that has happened to Doom. Egotistical.
He has refuted criticism by saying that the "haters" are "jealous they can't make a good mod". Can't take criticism.
Has treated his contributors like shit, and sometimes doesn't even credit them for their work. Thief.
This is more a personal pet peeve than a character flaw, but he also can't find a happy middle ground for things. It always has to be one extreme or the other--he flipflops back and forth between design decisions constantly in different builds. Inconsistent.

Remember this, I'm a General of the Army, and you shall not mess around with me. It's the law. Good Day Sir!

Oh him, I remember him from Doomworld a few years ago. Check out his map pack:

Three of the maps are stolen without credit - he even claims to have authored SUPRWEP8.DEH - and the rest are just boxes with millions of spheres and monsters. The text file instructs you to use the .deh and play with infinite ammunition turned on.

There's one other that I forgot in that post, but the screenshot is of her current WIP, which is apparently some weird MLP and Borderlands crossover mod for Doom. There's more screenshots posted later in the WIP thread I found that one in.

- Cleaned out some stuff that was using space for no reason
- Added an edited copy of GZDoom's lights.pk3 to GLDEFS
- - If you normally load lights.pk3, just remember to load FKER after, there shouldn't be any issues
- - If you don't want the dynamic lights, they can be turned off, but you've probably already done that anyway
- - The player will not make light flashes, unlike vanilla. This is intentional
- GLDEFS for other FKER projectiles as well (Plasma pistol/Beam)
- GLDEFS for Beam Zombie
- Un-broke Zandonum version, sorry about that
- - But seriously, the devs of Zanbananna need to get their shit together and update their codebase
