what's the best hardware to buy to play up to GCN/PS2/Xbone on my big screen? it seems like most commercial solutions can't even handle N64/DC, which is a total dealbreaker for me

The Xbone is the Xbox One, you fool, not the Xbox. Your best option is a PC. I hear the latest Xbox with Retroarch is also pretty nice.

yeah i get that a PC is the best option but what kind of specs do i need to be able to play with acceptable performance?

You should read the minimum system requirements for the emulators you plan to use and then go from there.

that's not enough though, i don't care if i can technically run the games if they run at 15FPS

With a few exceptions, most GC and PS2 games will work with relatively modest hardware. Some titles require more power than others (MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus spring to mind), but I believe a PC with a Skylake i5 or thereabouts, plus a low to mid-end GPU, should work nicely. I have a cheap used Optiplex 7th-gen i5 box with an RX550 that is able to run Breath of the Wild on Cemu at 1080p without issues. It can also do 4K on N64 (maybe even GameCube and Wii, but I don't think I've tried it there).

The better the specs, the better.

I can play pretty much every PS2 and GC game that I want on a laptop that was released in 2014 with an i-4700 and an 860m. I can even run some games on CEMU but it's a mixed bag there. Xbox emulation is a bit of a mess and doesn't really work on a system that old. I play any OG Xbox I want to play on a 360.

atari vcs ryzen with an nvme installed?
you could probably build an ugly toaster for less money but it will be just that. ugly.

Just build a relatively recent build and you'll be covered complete with reliable up scaling to modern displays. Xbox emulation is still very wip so a recent rig os going to handle that better too.

If the idea of that is overwhelming check out /g/ /pcbg/ thread. They're pretty friendly there. You're probably better off going intel if literally all you plan to do in emulate on the thing. Your other option if you don't want to think about it and you don't mind giving up PS2 then consider getting a Series S. I've heard it does Gamecube x2 pretty well and you may be able to access Xbox games in their ecosystem (idk, I've never owned an xbox)

Geez, are you daft, son?
Make a budget, get the best within that budget, focus on memory bandwidth and single core CPU benchmarks.

Set a budget and go to /pcbg/ or look on leddit
I have a base model 3060 and at 4k PS2 doesn't even hit 40% utilization

>ps2
holy christ

i can run ps2 basically perfect with intel integrated graphics kek (i10700k)
during the gpu shortage i refused to cave to scalpers and gamed perfectly without it
obv shit like shadow of the tomb raider ran at 8fps but for emulation i was legit surprised

in a few years gpu might not even be seperate components anymore

to clarify 1080p 60fps or above
