The first game specifically is so comfy to return to nowadays. Period nostalgic soundtrack, no unnecessary bloat, very fun gameplay. PC version (or PS2 with a 60 fps patch) still looks great. I prefer 90s arcade racers overall but among 2000s ones, NFSU is my favorite overall.

Idk, open world was really big with games like GTA and most people prefer UG2. I like UG1 better but I'm the minority on this.

EA decided to to strike while the iron is hot and ordered Black Box to work on Underground 2 while they were making Most Wanted (a sequel to Hot Pursuit 2). That's where the open world comes from, and why it's so underutilised compared to MW's pursuits

R33 while not as legendary as R32 still has more significant motorsports cred than R34. The latter is a movie and videogame star.

because of this game I thought the radio edit of get low was the only version. It was great timing this game, along finding Initial D and outrun2 at the same time, and burnout 3 with party crash.. freshman in college was good times.
had a lot of fun playing this on pc with a gravis pad, and I think I used the keyboard for drag races. Should get it going again.

It is, but this game best cars are 90s classics:
>A80 Supra
>R34 Skyline
>FD RX-7
>Second gen Eclipse
>MX-5
Only NSX is missing really. Who cares about 2000s shit when you have these?

Interesting, figured there would be a few 90’s cars. Never liked ricers but everyone and their brother loved this game growing up. It was up there with GTA as one of those games most people had on their PS2.

Open world is generally bad for racing games. Racing should be a very focused experience, all about going fast and negotiating clear-cut corners. The open world thing was just to impress audiences back in the day, and to just give a false sense of value to audiences nowadays.

Top comfy nostalgia, and runs flawlessly on Win10.

I played it on release and it became my chillout-come-down game for the next few years.
Whenever I came home drunk on the weekends I would do a course or two and then go to sleep.
I also have the soundtrack in my car.

If PS2 version of a game is decompiled, could that be used for decompilining OG Xbox and GameCube versions and finding differences between them? Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time isn't being used to decompile DS, 3DS versions of those games. I'm guessing the reason that doesn't work there is because they are closer to remake.
Could that be used to take best parts from each port to make the best version of a game?
Midnight Club 3 on PS2 has better rain effects. Burnout on PS2 has more sparks and things like that. Always wanted to see a port combines both Xbox and PS2 versions of those.

Would this approach tell us all the difference between PS2 and PC/GC/Xbox versions of Hot Pursuit 2?

You don't need that many brain cells to put 2 and 2 together that Underground 2 was made by a B team by just adding more to the previous game, while A team uses the extra year(s) to work on the next big thing. Underground 2 sucks.
