been wanting to play the Resident Evil series for a long time and with all the remakes coming out lately i figured it was a good time to start.
thought this game was pretty damn hard going in completely blind, inventory management being the biggest pain. i would rate bretti gud tho, maybe 7/10. didn't get too hung up anywhere and all of the puzzles were pretty fun/organic to solve. i died to the frog on the dam while crossing with billy three times before i tried NOT running away from him and just shooting him -- that was the only part i had to keep using continues on.
just got Resident Evil 1 installed, am i in for more fun?

RE0 is one of the weakest of the classics. RE1 is much better, both the original and the remake. RE2 and 3 are also pretty good (RE3 remake is disappointing though)

Yes, the random thumbs up is as Japanese videogame cutscene as it gets. If you liked RE0 then you're in for pure fun. I consider it to be the weakest actual RE game, disregarding 4 and onwards slop.
It's a hard game for the wrong reasons, mainly Rebecca being awful, the hookshot and no item boxes. You're better off leaving her in a safe room and doing everything possible as solo Billy.
If you're a zoomer, you might be spoiled on graphics since 0 looks the best out of them. But it's only up from here.

luckily i had a feeling the hookshot was going to come up again so i would just lug that around and leave it at any typewriter that seemed important, which definitely paid off. i played on normal and was definitely too conservative with grenade launcher/shotgun ammo because i had plenty to spare by the end.
i'm really looking forward to playing through the series; i was going to save RE1 to start tomorrow but i think i may just hop in now.

based nips btw, this menu item gave me a chuckle

For RE1 I would advise playing both. RE2 and 3 remake are slop but 1 remake is excellent. However it does not replace the original. If you're too lazy to beat both with Chris and Jill you should do 1 character per game.

>>9741669
gonna need some reasons because i already installed REmake, and if i'm being honest i'm one of those that doesn't really rewatch many movies or replay many games.
i literally know nothing about the series, i'm assuming RE is like RE0 and i'm swapping between two characters again?

>> No.9741683

>>9741676
No. RE0 is the odd one out , the only one where you play as 2 characters at the same time.
1 and 2 have two characters with their own campaign. They're pretty similar but have unique things to each and different plot points that converge at the end.

oh shit alright. maybe i'll play the femme on REmake because i hear she has a fat assand then play the bloke on original.
what's the recommended version for the original?

>> No.9741702

>>9741694
The original PC releases of 1, 2 and 3 with the REbirth fanpatches are the best way to go through the trilogy. The patch fixes a shit ton of stuff and adds conveniences like widescreen and proper controller support.

no problem. 0 was a weird choice to start with, but I guess you just decided to go through chronologically.

>> No.9741736

>>9741726
yeah whenever i decide to playthrough a new series i usually prefer to go chronological if there seems to be a decent amount of story. release order always feels weird especially when i'd end up on something like RE0 in a goofy spot.

>> No.9741740

>>9741736
I get it. It's just that 0 is weird both in lore and gameplay sense. It does nothing for the overall story other than making 1 make less sense. You'll notice that Rebecca's character won't make any sense in 1 if you take 0 as canon. Also that elevator in 0 is one of the most absurd contrivances for the sake of level design. It makes no fucking sense geographically.
And for gameplay, removing item boxes and forcing you to carry stuff around the whole game is pretty bad. Same goes for Rebecca's health in 0, the weakest character in RE history.

man you've got me itching to jump in tonight so i'm going to fire it up now, hopefully i'm not up for the next 6 hours playing. that fucking observatory sinking down into the water gave me a good laugh, didn't see that coming.
while you're here i may as well ask if i'm totally retarded and totally skipped a puzzle somewhere re: the item A Verse of Poetry? it talks about the order of the sun & moon i finished the game having read all files and i had all the collectibles save for 1, so i guess there's definitely SOMETHING i missed but i think it may have just been the pistol upgrade because by the time i carried the locker key to the factory and realized what it was for i wasn't really willing to backtrack that much

>> No.9741771

>>9741754
There's a pistol upgrade but it's not tied to that. it's in a briefcase. don't remember what the file is for, pretty sure it's a mandatory puzzle

I'd recommend using this because the sound quality (especially the music) is pretty bad in the PC version for some reason. It replaces all of the audio with the PSX audio Yes it works with Classic Rebirth. Just don't run the Dual Shock executable unless you want to listen to it's shitty music.

lol, this shit will always be funny. Best selling titles, most loved, but they are not good? You are wrong. Stay mad. There is a reason literally no one tries the old RE methods at RE4 (and those that did entirely failed because people like you know the old ways are shit)

Play the PC version of 1 with mods. Play the recent 2 and 3 releases. Simple. Ignore the aspies that pretend the older versions are better. They are just out of touch.

it's hated and shat on more than 6 (yes 5 is worse and hated more than 6 no matter how much the loud minority of 6 haters cope)
5 sold tons of copies because people thought it would be like 4 and it was like 4 alright but without any fun, soul or horror

wew lads i think i'm getting filtered pretty hard by a 25 year old game here, those dogs were kicking my ass; 5 hours in and not much to show for it.
did i make a mistake playing Chris first over Jill?

But RE has been trendy every year since 1996. It has always been a popular, mainstream franchise.

>>9743326
Chris is hard mode. As Jill:
>2 more inventory slots
>don't need old keys since you have a lockpick
>don't need the broken shotgun to get the actual shotgun
>gets the grenade launcher (called "Bazooka" in the OG)

>> No.9744546

>>9743326
Chris is okay for a first run too. You just need to make some compromises

>dont carry weapon+ammo+herb
>instead carry just fully loaded weapon and pick herbs on the fly when you need them
You want to have 3 empty slots every time you get out of a safe room.

Dogs appear rarely in the original game, dont even bother killing them, just avoid that hallway. Later when you encounter them outside just run past them, dont waste ammo.

Why would you start with a bland prequel game, people that plays/sees things in "chronological" plot order makes no sense to me
